Another funny thing about this article is DeLuca says KW isnt looking for starting pitching right now but I do remember KW saying before the season ended that he would like to add a young power arm this off-season.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) Does anyone else realize the ridiculousness of this "proposed" trade? There have been a couple of posts about how successful Freddy has been pitching in Anaheim, but then look at Santana's home numbers. Over the next 5 years, chances are Santana will win more games than Freddy and get paid a few lifetime's worth of money less, couple with the fact that Garcia could walk after 1 season, but Santana is still under the club's control for another 4 or 5. If the deal really is Santana + for Garcia, KW would have jumped at it so fast before the Angels could change their minds. YES. This too far out there to be real. I can only hope the only thing holding this deal up is that the Angels are trying to work out an extension with Freddy. Oh if only it were true.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) If I remember right when he came up he already had fastball, curve, slider and change up. But they shelved the slider in the bullpen. There is also a lot more money in starting than relieving so I'd expect he'd look at it would favorably. I'd really like to see Neal do well but the grubs! Maybe he can set the record for low ERA and WHIP among 20 game losers in the NL and sign a big contract elsewhere. Oh ok ,you mean be the Chubs version of Detroits Maroth a few years back ?

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) Is there a quote from Hendry somewhere saying that he may start for them? Yes there is .I heard this afternoon on espn radio .Hendry said that he and Lou would talk to Cotts about it .All Cotts has to do is develope a few more pitches and its put me in coach im ready to start .

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) To get 2 possible top 3 rotation SP's and a future SS provided he can improve with the bat (Arias is pretty speedy and good defensively IIRC as well) I think is a deal you would just have to take if it was on offer. Remember for Vazquez we gave up a future CF and a injury prone SP who got traded by the D-Backs a few months later. EDIT: Oh and forget Vizcaino And where's Flash to back me up on this? How was Arias with the glove ,I mean his errors ? I saw his stats too and even though his average is low I liked his xtra base hits and he shows base-stealing potential depite only stealing about 65% .He does show some promise ,hes just not ready for the Majors yet .

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) Well in Texas's situation, they will probably lose Vince Padilla in FA, along with Kip Wells and Adam Eaton. So that's a few SP that they are likely gonna hav to replace. Hence why they are thinking of trading some of their prospects to get a proven starter, because it's hard to get one for fair market value in FA because of the demand for it. You have to remember, the reason we would trade for young SP prospects is because we would want them to step in for 2008 if a Buehrle or Garcia bolted. Hurley and Danks should both be ready to contribute for 2008 along with Lance Broadway. And then you could trade a 2nd starter like Vazquez to the Mets for a package around Pelfrey, and try to sign a SP in FA like Batista on an inflated short - term deal. Kw is in a real tough situation .He trying to put the winning pieces together and take care of the future all in the same off-season . Im all for getting pitchers for our future ,especially considering the only pitcher we have that could be ready for 08 is Broadway .KMc is looking good so far and moving through the sytem at about the same pace that Broadway has been moving but is at least prob. 2 yrs away. I just hate to see Garland go thats all .

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 07:36 PM) And it was all but done from what I've seen. Well lets not forget about Linebrink from SDP last season too .It seems like if theres a trade rumor being talked about with KW then its prob. not going to happen .Thats Kenny for ya .I sure as hell didnt here any rumors about todays trade til after it happened .

QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) Maybe because like some people on this board they want the proven player and don't want to risk it with prospect. I can understand that they want to win but they need more than just Garland .Either way Im not too concerned about KW trading Garland its just something else for all of us to talk about .

QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) I'm sure the cubs will try. that's the scary part. Well its only scary for cub fans .Think about it :They put Cotts in the rotation , he fails miserabley and Sox fans have yet something else to make fun of cub fans about .I really like the idea !

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) If you could get Hurley, Danks and Arias for Garland, I would probably do that. I'm a JG backer, but there's always the question with his peripherals, in terms he doesn't strike out a lot of hitters, and his control really needs to spot on to succeed so those 1st pitches don't miss the plate. Don't think you'd get the same type of package for Garcia as you would for Garland. The reason Texas hasn't tried them yet Sweeney, is because Hurley just made it to AA at the end of this season, Danks had his 1st season in AAA IIRC, and they have a lot of fringe starters types such as Robinson Tejada. I see what your saying ,I guess I should have worded it differently .If these guys are highly regarded prospects why would you trade them ?I understand that Texass wants to win for 07 but Garland cant pitch for them every day either . I forgot that a few of those guys were in AA last year .I will say that of the guys I mentioned Danks does look like a hell of a prospect . I think he would have to be a part of any deal for one of our starters . I just cant understand why KW would consider this with 3 08 FA starters on our staff .I understand that because of Garlands youth and contract he has more value but I think in order to do this I would have to have Danks,Young and maybe another prospect to make that deal happen .

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) This trade is kinda reminding me of the Thornton trade who ironically made Cotts available. Take a look back at some of the people's reactions from that trade: "He's not very good." "Quite disappointing that we held on to Borchard so long that all we could get is a mediocre reliever that makes Marte look like he has pinpoint control. Oh well" "clocked as high as 97mph with no control maybe coop can get him under control ala Jenks. This is a low risk/high reward type move for the sox. If they can get him under control sometime this year, he has a hell of an arm." (This trade has much more risk involved) Thorton's upside is that he has an injury history. The only upside here is maybe he'll blow out his arm again and save us the agony of watching him walk 7 batters/9IP. Do not see any way this trade helps Sox at all. Thornton has had 7 years to learn how to throw strikes. He hasn't figured it out. What makes you think 2 weeks with Coop will suddenly cure him? Read this article: http://ussmariner.com/2006/03/20/bye-bye-matt-thornton/ Let's give Aardsma a chance. He won't be used in the same way the Cubs used him. About this Vasquez character; Isn't he eligible for the Rule V draft? It's very possible we could lose him leading to more people flipping out about this trade. Your absolutely right .KW has done less harm and alot of good for this team through trades and Ill give him the benefit of the doubt .

I dont have anything against getting any of these guys just not for Garland .

QUOTE(juddling @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) Just the fact that this conversation has the words 'Ranger pitching prospects' makes me wonder. The Rangers have been looking for starting pitching for what seems like forever. If they have some guys down on the farm that are worth a damn i don't see why they would give up 2 for 1. Agreed .If we were talking about Mets/Spanks young pitching prospects then MAYBE it would be something to consider but since were talking about Texas I for one am not too concerned . I saw the #s on Danks,Diamond,Hurley and Volquez and their #s are good FOR MINOR LEAGUERS .If this rumor is true and these prospects are so great then why isnt Texas tring a few out in the rotation (especially one of the weaker rotations in the AL) ?I remember they used Volquez out of the pen and Mr.Magoo has a better chance of throwing strikes. Who was the last great pitcher to come out of the Rangers farm system ?I cant remember any recently .

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 06:28 AM) Figured this deserved it's own thread, instead of just dumping it in the off-season thread. From today's Sun Sentinel down in Florida; Andino wasn't in the Marlins top 20 prospects in John Sickels list coming into this season (although that's more due to the depth of the Marlins system as a whole). He's 22 and had splits of .255/.303/.363 in the PCL for Alberquque this season. For comparisons sake, Joaquin Arias who the Rangers may offer up for Brian Anderson, had splits of .268/.296/.361 in the PCL also this season. I'd hope to do better for BA quite frankly. I agree .IF the Sox want to trade BA theres no rush .Whats the worst that could happen ?We end up keeping a 24 CF who is solid on D and has potential to be a good hitter .Another good situation for the Sox .

Mets looking to deal Milledge/Heilman?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 06:21 AM) Had this from the New York Times today; So it looks like if we want Humber or Pelfrey, it's gonna cost Vazquez and not Garcia. One thing to consider here is what the Spankies and Tigers did .The Tigers had a negotiating window with Sheff and the same could be done here .I think Freddy would be interested in talking to the Mets about a contract X .They were a playoff team and it is the NL with no DH and not alot of hitters have seen him . If something like this could be worked out it should increase his value and maybe the Mets wont be so Anal about giving up top prospects or whatever it is KW wants . The same could also be said about Javy . Ater all he never wanted to leave NY in the first place . -
QUOTE(beautox @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) Good, im glad Pierre is going to get 3/30 (i just hope its not with the sox) that makes Podsednik look even more attractive. Hell yes .I think Pods stock just went up .All the sudden 3m doesnt look so bad to other teams .

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) It looks like salaries are going through the roof again. At espn.com Jerry Crasnick says a guy like Adam Eaton is going to get a 3 or 4 year deal worth at least $8 million a year, and Juan Pierre is going to get at least $30 million for 3 years. Those would be crazy contracts. When people on here said Pierre would get $8 million a year, I thought they were crazy. Turns out they were just lowballing. With the price lack of pitching this year Im not so surprised but Pierre getting 10m per year is insane .Hes a good lead off hitter but not worth 10m . The sad thing in all this is the fans are the ones who get f***ED !

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 06:12 PM) Just heard an brief interview with KW from Bruce Levine on ESPN1000.... Kenny was asked whether there would be a long-term deal for Joe Crede in the off-season. He said that the issues regarding Crede's back have been overblown by people (including myself, though, he in no way mentioned me ) but that he didn't expect a deal to be reached "and that has everything to do with his representation." He said the Sox and Boras have different views on the value of players and he doesn't expect that to change anytime soon. Well if Crede want to stay in Chicago then he's gonna have to step in and remind Boras that he works for Crede . I guess we'll find out just how bad Joe wants to stay . -
QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) There's a difference between an old power hitter and an old speedy leadoff guy. Thanks dude ,Thats whats Im saying .

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) You seem to be making jokes about Roberts age, yet Thome is two years OLDER.... I guess my point is, if you think Roberts is old at 34, I was interested in what you thought of Thome at 36... Well for starters Thome is a proven player .He has been a great hitter his entire career and is also currently our DH .He has had multiple career years and didnt just crawl out of the woodwork with 1 productive season . Roberts on the other hand is a different story .Hes an ageing outfielder known for speed .The reason I personally dont like the idea of getting him is his age and the length of contract hes looking for ,something like a 3 yr.. The Sox arent asking this guy to drive in runs from the DH role , they are looking for him to stay healthy ,get on base ,steal bases and score runs as well as play a solid outfield pos.. I feel theres a diff. between an ageing DH and an ageing OF .I dont deny what Roberts did last season but am very sceptical that he could do it again much less 3 more years . I feel the Sox could find a much better fit for the lead-off spot than Roberts . But thats just my opinion .No matter who they get Im still going to pull for them once the season starts.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) Juan Pierre or another veteran wouldn't surprise me. This team has it's last best chance at another ring in 2007. With Thome and Contreras's age and several big time contracts coming up (Crede, Buehrle, Dye, Garcia) the group will probably not stay together much longer, even under the best circumstances. They have to go with a guy they know can do the job, not guys they hope can do the job. Even if they go with the kids (platoon Sweeney and Anderson) out of spring training, I don't see them sticking with either if they struggle, KW will get a journeyman like a David DeJesus or Reed Johnson type who can field the position adequately and won't kill the lineup like last year. As Ozzie likes to say, 'this isn't the Arizona Fall League'. Its kind of catch 22 .You have to play and win for 07 but it would be nice if BA or Ryan could play well enuff to stay in and get ab's because of the F/A situations in 08 .
