QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) Also a long shot in Luis Terrero. Thats right ,I forgot about him .Any thoughts on who win the CF job?

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) I could live with Vizquel. It makes sense, as he could be a good addition atop the order while playing solid defense and producing consistent offense. Rowand?......not so much. I'd be more open to trading Anderson if he were already given a fullseason of consistent AB's to prove himself. Atleast 500. Guillen benching him every other day doesn't help. If by the end of the 2008 season it's obvious Anderson is another bust prospects, THEN Williams can reacquire Rowand. Just give him an opportunity. And if this logic just falls by Williams and he's intent on picking up Rowand, how about adding someone he shouldn't have let go--Fabio Castro? He would be useful in our bullpen alongside Cotts and Thornton. We'll find out about BA this spring training .Didnt Ozzie already say that CF will be an open try-out with Owens and Sweeney competing with BA ?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) Wasn't he supposedly hurt in the 2nd half of 2005 as well? He had a whole off-season to get healthy, and like you said, he saw very little time in ST, and "looked hurt" all season. So why should a team trying to win it all in 2007 count on a guy that hasnt been at full health since July of 2005? I just have never really been a fan of Podsednik, and the "Podsednik Adventure" needs to come to an end. You make a good point about 05 .I remember at one point he was on pace to steal almost 80 bags and I believe he was having hamstring probs.

QUOTE(hi8is @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) i dont even know what to think of that quagmire. Exactly .Thats why I didnt even respond .Im not completely sold on BA either but hes only 24 and could still come around .

QUOTE(ChiSox35 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) It's amazing how so many people will give up on a guy for one bad season. Keep him around, he probably won't cost too much, and look around for a suitable plan B. Its looking like he'll be in the area of 3m .Theres no doubt its possible he could turn things around just like any other player but after last season he looked mentally exhausted .Hes very hard on himself and its not just the lack of offesive production but his basestealing was hurt by his injuries .His defense was terrible and and his base running wasnt too good either .Sometimes it looked like he was thinking about something else (probabley doing his st.pauly girl) .Not really worth 3m .

QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) Contreras or Garcia and Uribe for Young, Danks and Diamond works. Ya think teams would bite on Jose ?I would rather see him go .

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 06:29 PM) The Sox could go after the Rocket all they want, but unless they pay him about $20 million for a full season, allow him to stay in Texas with his family when he isn't pitching, and kissing his ass any number of other ways, he won't be signing with them. Let him go to Boston or the Yankees and get lit up. Yup .Considering the Sox need a reliever and a new lead-off guy I think those are bigger priorities .Not to mention where is the room on the payroll to fit Rogers salary ? This is why I dont see that happening .

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) De Luca would not just make up this. This from his sources, so if you say this, you really mean you wish KW wasn't GM. NO your trying to put words in my mouth .All I said was he didnt say anything that we didnt already know .Everyone knows Texas needs pitching just like most other teams .Im not saying what he said was bulls*** ,what I am saying is that it doesnt take much to put 2 and 2 together .We have pitching and they need it . Now as far as KW hes one of if not the best GM in all of sports .Nowhere in what I wrote did I say or imply otherwise .All I was doing was poking fun at DeLuca . If Im going to believe any reporters in Chicago sports it will be Bruce Levine.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 05:48 PM) Danks would be nice to have, and he could probably contribute sometime in 07. Hurley wouldn't be bad either. Hurley .Only 21 with good strikeouts per innings pitched .Shows some promise.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) So who do we like from the Rangers SP prospects? I'm thinking John Danks, and as for the young player, well it'll be hard to get someone like Young obviously, but there's Joaquin Arias, albeit his bat certainly isn't ready yet. But I've been long saying Texas is a good trading fit for us, and I expect something to get done here, especially if they can't re-sign Vince Padilla who wants $10M a season, but will probably settle for something like 4/32. Danks would be a nice project for Coop to work with .Could have a chance in 08 with with up to 3 starters heading to FA .

QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) Why not? Thornton was out of options and worth Joe Borchard when he arrived in Tucson in March. He couldn't break out of the minor leagues until age 27. And when he finally got his break, he responded with a below-average and poor seasons in Seattle. He was bad for most of his career, so why is he a lock to pitch well again in '07? The Sox have three lefty relievers. One of them wasn't very good in his rookie year and the other two have had very inconsistent careers. In other words, this part of the bullpen is a huge question mark. It seems to me that trading any of them away isn't a good option at this point. Well the same can be said about Walker too .He was 27 going on 28 when he made his debute with KC and hes been ok.

QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 04:58 PM) Why would we go after Rocket. He's really old and probably won't last another season. Why ? Cuz DeLuca says so .So let it be written so let it be done .But seriously I agree about Roger ,we dont need an expensive pitcher with bad hams .It does get a chili in the spring and fall around here ,never good for hamstrings . QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) Why ? What did this article really tell us that we didnt already know ? Its not rocket science that alot of teams can afford 1 of our starters so alot of teams could be potential trade partners .All this guy did was reitterate whats already been said by other reporters .This article was just a little bit vague at best . But it does make you think .

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) The sooner you sign Crede, the lower his cost/year. I agree but it is a risk .You know how back preblems are :it might get better or worse who knows . I feel he will be ok just because of Herm .

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) IF the Sox signed Speier and Walker, they would be the middle men. Matt and Mike would retain their setup duties. BTW, does anyone know what happened to Urbina? I can't find anything regarding the outcome of his trial, if he's still in jail, etc. Being a close friend of Ozzie, I'd think he'd be amicable to signing with the Sox (assuming he's been liberated), perhaps to a cheap one-year incentive-laden deal to re-establish himself as a major-leaguer after a long layoff. Jail or prison ?

QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) trade iguchi & dye to the yankees for cano and melky cabrera, then use the money saved from the trade to acquire a proven bullpen cornerstone and ink crede to a long term deal. Dont see Cashman going for that either .You shouldnt ink Crede just yet til his back situation is has gotten better . We still have from now til the end of the 07 season to see how his back turns out .
-
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) Wright was a good pickup for the O's for one reason and one reason only, Leo Mazzone. Wright had his best years under Leo, and he probably will again. Pods could at least get a major-league ready player or two. Thats what Im thinking .We will get a descent return for Pods .He still has some value.
-
QUOTE(cws05champ @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) The problem with trying to sign both Spier and Walker is that the sox current pen may actually work against them. Because of their back end depth of Jenks, Macdougal and Thorton they may not want to sign on as a perceived middle relief man or someone who would get limited meaningful opportunities/holds. Your right but another way to look at it is they may want to sign for that easy $ .Theres not as much pressure like with the set up or closer roles .Dont get me wrong you still have to hold a team to get to the set-up/closer .

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) The talk of any team giving up anything of value for Podsednik is a joke. Every team in the majors has a minor leaguer who can do what Pods does. Podsednik has become a zero-tool player. He can't hit for average (or get on base with any frequency). He has no power. His OF defense stinks. He has no arm. And his speed/baserunning/base stealing has gone from great to merely above average. He is a below replacement level player who is no longer particularly good at any aspect of the game. Is some team going to give up anything of value for him when the best you can say about him is that he used to be fast? I hate it when fans come up with fantastics scenarios where we can get something good in exchange for crap. Stupid trades happen every year .Look at Balt., they gave up a young promising reliever for Wright whos in the last year of his contract and you never know what you get with that guy . Another one last year was Borchard to Seattle for Thorton then Seattle released him got picked up by Florida . Then theres the Cubs who do that every year . Point is you never know .We'll probabley hang on to Pods for trade bait for as long as we can in hopes that teams get desperate for lead-off help and over pay .

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) definitely the name that peaks my interest the most, I would love for the Sox to land him, I'm just not sure what the price would be. Also, is he in the last year of his deal? When would he be a FA? Yup in 08 he baecomes f/a .Rotoworld speculates Beltran type money .Dont forsee KW trying that out . Its more likely that KW would try for Crawford instead .Hes signed through 08 with club options for 09-10 and Crawford is cheap compared to whats out there .

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) How would people feel about giving Walker and Speier around 4M deals for 2 seasons with a team option for a 3rd? (think of the deals Howry and Scott Eyre got last off-season). It significantly beefs up our pen, adding Speier and Walker to Jenks, MacDougall, Thornton etc. should definitely increase our bullpen ERA from last season which we majorly struggled at. Signing Walker gives you the flexibility to trade Cotts + prospect for say Coco Crisp as well, if you don't want to sign Pierre or Dave Roberts in the off-season. Wonder what the Angels would want for Figgins as well? I assume they're gonna go real hard after J.D Drew now since they missed out on Ramirez today. So your talking about a pen with :Jenks,Thorton,MMac,Speier,Walker and Riske and poss. Hager as a 12 th pitcher .That on paper would be one hell of a pen .Would take alot wear and tear off the starters ,BMac especially ,with 07 being his 1st full season you would want to keep his innings down . The only thing is I hate to give up on Cotts but I guess you have to give up something to get Coco .

Kenny Williams holding his cards close to him?

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) I think KW will make his move once everything shakes out a little. Basically every team needs pitching, and there's not enough to go around in the FA market, so probably once the pitching moves off the FA KW will move a pitcher, likely Freddy. He'll be sitting in a great position. NICE SIGN ! You gotta love Carl.......now that hes gone! -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) Too much. That franchise is a real mess right now. I sJim Hendry pulling double duty with Balt.? Thats the kind of move the Cubs would make.

QUOTE(forrestg @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 06:08 PM) I've spoken with Coco. I like him....... He's would be an assett to the team. I've spoken with Coco. I like him....... He's would be an assett to the team. Yes he would and also an upgrade over pods.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) No question Garcia should receive much more than that. I'd rather avoid Crisp all together and focus a return package primarily on pitching. Something similar to what the Yankees received for Sheffield where one good SP prospect is included, along with two raw lower-level arms. What Jaret Wright's value has proven, if nothing else, is the urgency teams may have to avoid the FA market. I believe we're in a good position. Hopefully, now Yankees swoop in and immediately sign Zito. Leave the Mets short again in their persuit of a starting pitcher. The reason I mention Crisp is because the Sox are looking to replace Pods and Crisp could do that .Crisp is young (26) gets on base ,steals bases and can drive in runners .His numbers were down last season due to injury . Im just throwing his name out there is all .Hes not the only guy who could replace Pods at the top of the order ,Im just thinking about guys who are younger with some up-side instead of the popcorn throwing pierre or old man Roberts . Your right though ,it would be nice to pitching in return on some trades .As of right now the only prospect who has a legit shot at the rotation any time soon is Broadway but hes prob. a year away yet .Hager is interesting too if A.J. can learn how to catch a knuckler .Kmc has looked good but hes even further away than Broadway .
