  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) In some cases, Freddy having 1 year left on his deal can be a good thing. There are going to be teams battling to sign Vicente Padilla, and someone is going to end up having him locked up for 4 or 5 years. Not the best scenario. To a team like the Mets, that are obviously going for it all RIGHT NOW, a one year rental player might look better than a 4 or 5 year deal. I guess alot depends on a pitchers age too .Like Zito ,I would want him locked up but hes only 27 . With pitching so thin this year we might be better off trading Javy and Freddy if we could get the right players in return .
  2. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 03:07 PM) That I would not do. I think we can do better for Freddy. Then again, I'm not too familiar with the Red Sox system. Im not too familiar either but I know they have a lefty named Lopez !The thing about Freddy is he doesnt have the worth he should because theres only one year left on the contract but with pitching market being so slim and expensive you never know .
  3. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) I love Coco, and it would fill a need but straight up? No. Also like J4life said, the Red Sox probably wouldn't do it. Oh I agree I just wanted to throw that out there thats all . As far as Coco goes ,I think a more likely scenerio would be Garcia for Coco and a quality prospect or two .
  4. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) I will just throw this out there. IMO, it will be a HUGE mistake if we trade Cotts unless we got something stellar in return. I think KW agrees .Hes already said that he has no interest in trading Cotts so it would take something steller . Would you trade Cotts for Coco ?
  5. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) Best thing clemens has or will ever dofor the white sox is pitch against us in the world series. Good one .Thats the exact point some are trying make ,bad hams + cold weather =early exit or no start at all.
  6. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) If the Phils and Sox were talking about a 3 way deal, that would probably mean the 3rd team would give the sox the players. I don't see Philly a good fit [the Rowand chatter doesn't sound right, esp. for Freddy the sox biggest trading chip] for the sox. But what tradeable assets do the Phillies really have? I could see the Red Sox being a possible 3rd team with Rowand going to Boston. That way, Freddy would be out of the AL. And the sox get Coco Crisp from Boston and a prospect or two from Philly. OK who has KW's number ?Lets get the deal started. Well we could try to get Rollins .Thats crazy talk I know but Id love to have him playing for the Sox .
  7. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) I'd be giddy if we got Clemens for a year. I love Roger and he would guarantee sellouts every 5 games. The thing about Roger is for one he will prob. pull the same s*** he did last year and not end up pitching til May .For two his hamstrings could be trouble if he did start the season on time with the cool weather we get and then again in fall .Then theres that bulls*** when he pitches on the road he flys in the night before or the morning of his game and then goes back home after his start .Then theres the hefty price tag that comes with him .I believe his salary was around 14m to pitch 4 mos. of baseball , no thanks Id rather have Freddy.
  8. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) Boston will and should only take someone who can help them win in 2007. They won't go for prospects. The Red sox have some nice young arms that might interest the White sox if Freddy was appealing to them. I think Coco is the type of guy KW is looking for so if he can get a reasonable trade worked out he'll make it happen .Maybe Garcia for Coco and a minor leaguer .If Garcia wasnt in the last year he would be worth more .Maybe we could get Lopez back with Coco .
  9. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) Why would we pay him 3 million to be a backup? Yup .Even though owens has almost no mlb experience he would be more the type as a back-up or late inning speed off the bench and wouldnt cost nearly as much .Hell with way Pods batted last year I wouldnt have a prob. starting owens in left as opposed to keeping Pods .I dont think he would be much worse if at all.
  10. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 09:06 AM) I could see the Red sox being interested in Neal Cotts for Crisp. Though I wouldn't give up on Neal just yet. Not unless the sox picked up another LHP like FA Jamie Walker. Not sure if KW will let cotts go just yet condering hes still only 26 and Walker is what 34/35 something like that .On the other hand if it means getting a guy like Coco you never know .Personally I would like to see them try to trade someone like Ragowski (since we wont have room for him til hes about 28 anyway) and maybe a lower level pitching prospect .
  11. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) No doubt the guy is a bit of a project. But the sox wouldn't need him on the 25 man roster right away. The sox should have their bullpen pretty straightened out by the time spring comes, with a veteran or two to compliment what the sox already have. But to get a guy with that kind of arm, IMO that would be a decent return for Pods. Though I still think the sox could get another prospect as well as Morillo for Pods. Exactly .Even though Pods had a bad year he will still be pretty a cheap lead off hitter for around about 3m considering what Roberts and pierre will get .Im sure there are alot of teams who would be interested in him .
  12. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 08:42 AM) Boston likes to cut its losses pretty quick, ala Renteria prior to 06. IMO, Crisp is all but out from Boston. The key is would the sox be interested. Crisp would seem to be a very good fit for the sox. Plug him right into LF, leaving CF for BA and Sweeney. And Crisp could also play Cf and plug ryan into Lf. We'll see. I think Kenny would be very interested its just a matter of would it be a straight up trade or would Boston have to give up a minor along with Coco . This is the kind of trade KW would typically pull off .You know the kind of trade that hardly anyone suspects.
  13. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 06:11 AM) Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Sox have control over Pods and is eligible for arbitration. That means they can trade him without signing him to a deal. The team that deals for him can take him to arb. or sign a new deal. With that in mind, the sox should find a few trading partners for Pods. Guys like Roberts and Pierre will be getting big deals. Pods should be a bargain for a mid salary team that thinks it has a shot at the playoffs. One possible destination is Colorado. Looking at what they have available in the minors--and that Colorado won't and shouldn't part with their best pitching prospects, one guy is very intriguing. 23 yr old Juan Morillo. He's been a SP with only 1 pitch--a 100 mph heater. Put him in AAA and work out of the bullpen, and the sox have a guy who can be called up mid year. Here's his writeup from BA's 2006 Prospect Handbook: The Rockies #7 prospect--"Morillo fires easy, effortless gas, and the White Sox reportedly clocked him at 104 mph in 2004. He regularly pops 100 mph and pitches at 95-97. Durable and resilient, he never has missed a start as a pro. He may light up radar guns but Morillo is primarily a one-pitch pitcher. He still needs to learn to command his fastball and improve his secondary pitches. He has a hard slider and a changeup, but he doesn't have enough command to throw them with confidence. His slider reaches the upper 80's but he'll try to throw it too hard and lose break. He led the California league in walks and even when he throws strikes he often leaves pitches up in the zone. Because he has one reliable pitch, several scouts see Morillo moving to the bullpen where he could develop into a big league closer. He'll stay in the rotation in AA in 2006." If he's moved to the pen, he should regularly throw close to 100mph. And if he can at least get one more pitch over for strikes, he could be a lights out bullpen guy. While he's a risk, the sox should be able to get a low level prospect along with Morillo for Pods. Thoughts? Any other possible destinations for Pods? Wow. Thats some serious heat .I wouldnt mind something like that .Get that kid into spring-training and let Cooper get work with him .
  14. Ive read that Boston is poss. looking to deal Coco anyway and since they need pitching it could be a real trade poss..I know Coco's #s were down last year but thats from his injury .Before that he had great #s .311 against lefties .Hes a switch-hitter so he could lead off every game and he still has 2 yrs left at about 5 m per year which isnt bad considering he can drive in runs too .The fact that he just turned 27 helps too .I would rather see the Sox look into a guy like Coco instead of Roberts .
  15. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Nov 11, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) The one thing you have to remember is that Kenny likes flying under the radar. Not only that, but from years past, if KW has a chance to improve the team he will do it. He doesn't make moves just to make moves, but he isn't afraid to pull the trigger on a trade that he think will make the team better. Thats right .Its a long off-season and dont forget the Thome trade didnt happen last year til Thanksgiving .Kenny knows what hes doing and he will have all the pieces in place by spring-training.
  16. Wow .Talk about doing your homework . I think this whole trade scenerio is good because it gives us something to talk about but the fact of the matter is Cashman has said he doesnt intend on trading Arod (that could always change) and Arod still has a no -trade claus anyway .
  17. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 11, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) Trading for A-Rod would free up salary over time. The only way I would deal for A-rod is the yanks pay enough so that he costs only 10 mil per year. Trading Freddy + Crede would be a wash this year and Garcia is going to be a FA next year. Crede is getting close to FA as well so in the long term Garcia + Crede will cost more than A-Rod. The difference now is that A-Rods contract at 10mil per year is a steal. Look at what A-Ram etc are wanting, you know Boras and Crede will want big money come FA time. A-Rod is under contract and a marquis player. Iagree .Picking up Arod for 10M a year would make things a hell of alot more interesting .Im all for trading Garcia and or Javy but still not sure about Crede though .Its not easy giving up a guy thats a human vaccum at 3B . On the other hand if a guy like Aramis can turn down 14M per year over 5 it makes me wonder what Crede will get on the free agent market next year .I know Crede doesnt have Aramis type numbers offesively but hes still not that far behind and is ALOT better defensively .I guess Ill just go with whatever jappens .
  18. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 11, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) I thought there was enough sarcasm there that green wasn't needed. I guess I should have used it.... Sorry man didnt know you were being sarcastic .
  19. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Nov 11, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) Let me point out that he played with Randy Johnson for about 4 seasons. And let me point out (again) that the Mariners set the AL record for wins the season after he left. There were plenty of the same pitchers on that team that played with A-Rod (including Freddy Garcia). The Yankees can keep him and enjoy the stats and the eventual disappointment. Exactly .Thats what happens when you tie up 25M a year with 1 player (minus what Texas is still paying) .Thats 25% or more of your entire payrole and still have to pay 24 other players with the balance .Obviously the Yanks are a different story but no one has Steins bankrole . Arod is a great player but not worth the asking price .
  20. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 11, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) Rowand was the sole reason 2005 happened, and the sole reason we didnt win in 2006, thats why..... Sorry but not even close .You cant say that 1 person made it all happen in 05 .Pitching was the biggest factor for the season and playoffs and besides Crede was also throwing some serious leather too not just Rowand .
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 11, 2006 -> 10:16 AM) ARod had more homers, more RBI, more SB, a higher BA a higher OBP and a higher slugging pct. than Crede in a great year for Crede and a down year for ARod. If the numbers were reversed and ARod got a Silver Slugger award this board would be full of posts about what a joke the Silver Slugger Award is. Don't get me wrong, Crede had a great year and is better defensively than ARod. But offensively it isn't a contest. Also keep in mind ARod plays half his games in a graveyard for right handed power hitters. With Crede's back and contract issues, trading him makes some sense. I just don't think Fields is the guy you want playing 3rd base in 2007 when you are trying to win a championship. I understand what your saying and with Crede's back issue its def. a concern but I have to agree with Jordan on this .Theres nothing wrong with trying to make the offense better but there are more important issues they need to deal with first like bullpen help and a lead-off hitter .Im guessing that KW will take care of those issues first before trading for someone like Arod if in fact he really is interested in Arod in the first place .
  22. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Nov 11, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) Anyone else he the rumor on the Score, that the Sox were looking to get Rowand back, in a three way trade? It was mentioned yesterday but havent heard any more about it .Ive been looking around on-line and havent found anything . Unless Bruce Levine reported it ,its prob. B.S..
  23. This is a bit off the subject but isnt it amusingly ironic about all the b****ing Sheff did this week about Joe Torre moving Arod around in the line-up against the Tigers and today he gets traded to non other than the Detroit Tigers .This sounds like something that would happen to the Cubs .Hey this guy is an asshole lets trade for him !
  24. NO WAY that this trade happens .A-rod is a hell of a player but as everyone else has said not worth those three players .No amount of K/Y could ease the pain on a trade like that . Dont see the Sox giving up Lance either seeing as how (at least for now) we have 3 potential free-agent starting pitchers after 07 .I saw the scouting video on Lance when he was drafted and his stuff is very similar to Bmac .
  25. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) Lets remember he played through this problems on route to a career season. Oh yes I remember .I just hope it doesnt get worse thats all .He does have youth on his side and the best trainer in all of sports so Im still very optimistic .
