  1. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 09:14 PM) Nobody is getting my Seinfeld/Ziggy reference? Geez... My place is a sty
  2. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) So not true. Only the idea of the trade is good. If you get a AAA or AAAA player for a cost-controlled closer coming off a 40 save season, you've made a bad trade, and missed a real opportunity. This falls into the category of bizarre semantic argument for the purpose of argument. If the idea of the trade was good, then the decision to make the trade was a good one. So if the wording that you choose to use to categorize such a scenario is: -good decision -bad trade That's fine for you. But what's the point of arguing adjectives?
  3. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 08:35 PM) The Reed/Davidson trade was a good decision. Not every good decision becomes a good trade. That's baseball. This is a reasonable point and therefore has no place on this board. Maybe try some baseless, constant complaining.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 07:01 PM) Arcia's ball landed in the middle of the concourse and bounced over the Section 105/106 sign onto the roof of whatever's behind the concourse. Borchard and maybe Pasqua have hit the concourse. Is that the third ever?
  5. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:01 PM) I highly doubt that.... How many lefties did he face in the 15 or so games Abreu was gone?? And even if there was a lefty on the mound that doesn't mean he had to play.. I guess you can blame Robin for his average....... He has started 7 games against lefties this year. 4 of them were in those 2 weeks.
  6. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) You think I hate Dunn because he is hitting .227 this year?? That is his highest average since being on the White Sox.... And he's hitting .240 against righties. That's closer to what his total would be if Abreu hadn't spent time on the DL.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:43 PM) Who wants him back next year? Regardless, he is not the problem with our offense. I could envision a situation where I'd want him back next year. He'd be making less than half of his current salary. He's quite productive in his platoon DH role and he seems to have gotten used to DHing. No way of knowing what sort of moves will be made in the offseason and I'd say the only locks to be here are Abreu Eaton Garcia Gillaspie Ramirez Strong chance we'll be wanting left handed power (and obp), which is not very plentiful in the league and especially not among next year's free agents.
  8. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:34 PM) He is still horrible and I can't wait until he is gone Another perspective would be that the Sox are 7th in baseball in runs scored. So nobody's offensive production, or lack thereof, is the area in most need of improvement in the offseason. It's the backend of the rotation and the bottom 3 or 4 guys in the bullpen
  9. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:28 PM) He is still horrible.. .227 with 44 RBIs? what kind of DH/1B is that? Batting average is a pretty meaningless stat without any other context. Especially in the context of an .845 OPS against righties.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) Thompson, Beli, Petricka, Surkamp, Guerra, Webb, Rienzo. That's the bullpen. Pretty sad. Would you recommend them trading away prospects to get bullpen help?
  11. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 10:31 PM) You have guys like Sale and Abreu who are really good and then you have guys like Blowsario, De Aza, the bullpen in general that are baseball bad. De Aza batting .313 with an .813 OPS over the last 2 months
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 09:52 PM) Now why didn't we bring in Webb to start the 8th? Because he was going to give up a home run
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) We're crushing the ball though this inning...the sac bunt is the only easy out they've gotten. …looking for the turd-colored lining?
  14. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 08:24 PM) A damn shame Nieto can't see time in the minors. I honestly think he could be on the cusp at AAA at this point (as well as our best catching prospect). He'll be there next year.
  15. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:08 PM) That'll have gone back a good bit now, today's start pushed his FIP 21 points worse. He now has a 4.84 FIP in 136 IP. Jeremy Guthrie is the only other starter with a 4.84 FIP, in 132 IP and his WAR is .3. Fangraphs shows .5 There are various ways off calculating WAR so you may have been looking at something different from what I was.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:32 AM) The arm rating is based on whether baserunners get the expected amount of bases. So not running on Parra would prop up his arm rating just like throwing them out would. There is that, but I've seen a few clips where he created an out where there wasn't one there. The one in the clip I posted where he got a fielders choice on what should have been a routine single to left. One that was just a straight up single to left field, but he threw the guy out at first before he got there. Another where the runner pulling into second rounded the bag by a few feet and Parra threw behind him and got him out. It could be that just an inordinate number of those unusual plays happened to present themselves for him last year and that helped his numbers soar. And/or that runners are way more aware about the possibility of Parra throwing them out in any situation.
  17. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 10:39 PM) He's nowhere close to a 2 WAR pitcher. He is closer to a .5 WAR pitcher, which is the issue: we're paying 15 mill a year for a 5th starter. Fangraphs has him at .8 WAR now, so on pace for 1.2 WAR if he doesn't improve any.
  18. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) Well his ops is down to 812 but by 2014 standards that's still pretty good. I corrected mine. It's his OPS against righties
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:08 PM) Same thing applies to Dunn, except some team might acually bite on him. Dunn will be moved (assuming the Sox don't go on a big winning streak). He has an .858 OPS in 300+ PAs this year against righties. That is a lot better than most baseball players.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) It's an interesting twist on the biggest criticism of Beane, not having enough bats/offense in the post-season. He's doubling down on having enough dominant pitching (see Atlanta Braves 1991-2005) to compensate for some of the gaps offensively... They have the best offense in the major leagues this year.
  21. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) His defense is not that good anymore. I don't think it's as simple as saying he's not good anymore. Players have good and bad defensive seasons same as hitting. One thing that drove his high defensive rating is his great arm. Led the league in outfield assists last year. Could be that runners don't run on him as much. Looks like he's made errors at a higher rate this year too. Any reports out of Arizona on his defense? edit: this made me look up some of his plays. This one from last year is nuts. I can't really imagine any other outfielder making that play.
  22. Anyone have an understanding of why defensive metrics are down on him this year?
  23. Beckham with a modest 5 game hitting streak. Flowers has 6 multi-hit games in his last 9 games.
