  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Worth noting that De Aza is on the DL? No he's been back and playing since 7/19. He's 12 for 28 over that span with two doubles and two triples. The splits mentioned earlier (OPS .852), do not include his last 9 at bats. He's 6 for 9 in those, and his OPS against righties is now .909 He's clearly better than Kotsay and Pierre. There is no one for whom this information could matter less than our manager.
  2. Cubs would pay "quite a bit of" what he's owed this year and next. http://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/19597397319 Despite being cold for awhile (probably partly due to losing time to Colvin), he's put up a .338 wOBA this year (.346 against righties). That's better than all of our starters not named Konerko, Rios, or Quentin (Jones is next at .329). He played league average center field last year and is playing league average right field this year. That obliterates Quentin out there. Say what you will about him not having much more that 10 homer power, dude is above average at the most important thing- getting on base. Platooning him and Jones in right is a serious upgrade over Quentin ever using a glove or Kotsay ever using a bat (or glove or chewing gum or anything at all).
  3. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) 0.186/0.280/0.349/0.629 Your starting catcher of the future Your starting catcher of the present has an even worse .275 OBP and basically identical .633 OPS. At $6.75 mil.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) I said it earlier today, but if the Tigers acquire Dunn, and the Sox get no one...the average fan will go into meltdown mode. Though in reality the Tigers would be, at that point, worse off than they were a few days ago before Maggs and Guillen got hurt. But I do see you noted "average fan."
  5. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:27 PM) What would it take to acquire Cust That's what I asked in the Trade Winds forum.
  6. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) Thats a big ass problem. It's definitely either a big ass problem or a negotiating tactic.
  7. He was dfa'd coming out of spring training- partly forced by the fact that Eric Chavez is making $12.5 million and so was given th DH job. When he and the rest of the A's offense predictably struggled (and Chavez no surprise landed on the DL again), Cust came up on May 15. I didn't realize the A's were at .500. But Beane obviously is a dealer and without some crazy run in the next week, I would expect he'd do that rather than think he can catch the Rangers. Cust seems to me comparable to a Laroche acquisition. Wouldn't cost too much in $$ or any of our top prospects, and would improve the offense.
  8. The article and videos are cool. I don't know why they simply wrote, "Luckily for the White Sox, Beckham seems to have made the proper adjustments at just the right time," rather than show us another video with the adjustments he's made later in the season.
  9. Why the f*** not? He beats the pants off Kotsay as a hitter. .385 OBP so far. The A's are going nowhere and didn't even have him on the team to start the year (didn't come up until May 15). He's put up a 1.036 OPS in July. It seems he may even be a better outfielder than Quentin at this point. Think of the damage he could do at Sox Park compared to in Oakland. What do you think he'd cost?
  10. I seem to recall a Joe Crede and a Juan Uribe on the left side. The 2005 defense was definitely up there.
  11. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) I honestly don't see ourselves as World Series contenders. Sure, but you probably didn't see us going 26-5 for a stretch either. Our ERA is 3.33 over the last 42 games. And that's what matters most once you get into the crapshoot of the playoffs (your 2006 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals).
  12. Kenny isn't trading Viciedo and Hudson for Dunn or anyone else. Kenny isn't trading Hudson period. It doesn't make sense. You don't need to worry, and hope it doesn't happen. It won't happen. Sure, that Nationals would like that and their GM asked for that. Same guy who asked for Beckham. He hoped he could get Beckham for a 3 month rental. Beyond silly. We wouldn't trade Beckham for Dunn and Willingham.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) Flowers has been the most disappointing prospect for me this year. If you exclude the month of May where they had him mess with his swing, he's put up a .952 OPS. As it is, I only see 3 "prospects" (dudes younger than 28) in the International League who've been better than his .810 OPS. An no surprise, none of them is a catcher.
  14. Which of these produces the most wins for the Sox over the rest of the year: Quentin in RF, Kotsay at DH, Hudson as the 5th starter Jones in RF, Quentin at DH, Hudson as the 5th starter Quentin in RF, Dunn at DH, some guy? as the 5th starter (Marquez?)
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) I wouldn't care if the Sox DFA'ed him once Teahen gets back. He becomes quite redundant since it would seem like Vizquel is still going to play quite a bit of 3B when Teahen is activated, and Teahen is going to play because of the money he is due. Teahen can play both 1B and the corner outfield spots like Kotsay, but he can also stand to the left of 3B and 2B and field ground balls a little bit too, which is something Kotsay won't do because he throws left handed. Yes, to all of this. But more importantly, many people hope he gets DFA'd because Kenny trades for a better bat. When/if that happens, presumably Viciedo or Lillibridge heads back to AAA for a month.
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) Can't wait for the "Jenks Sucks" thread.... Walking batters is something, ostensibly, that you can control. Once you start putting batters on, to some degree it's up to luck/chance/randomness whether or not they score. A bloop, a groundball that's not hit at anybody- you can't defend against that. That's to say nothing about the possibility of legitimate hard hit balls.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) Yep, and I predict he'll be our closer in 2011. Sure makes some sense. You'd hope he could be had for less than what Jenks would make in arb., and is a good bet to be the better pitcher, as he's been this year.
  18. Beckham batting a cool .706 over his last 5 games. Batting average, not OPS.
  19. QUOTE (South Paw @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) gordon up to .234 11 for his last 16
