QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 07:44 PM) Seriously, is this a fluke or is Lilli finally realizing his potential? This is 9 at bats is what it is. But if he stays hot, keep him in there.

Your 2010 White Sox All Star- Matt Thornton
Vance Law replied to smalls2598's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Thornton got picked because he's the top lefty reliever in baseball. The manager ostensibly is putting together the best team to win the game in order to get the home field advantage. For that reason he's a great choice. Rios, however, has had a better season than all 3 of the reserve outfielders. I could see Paulie potentially being kept out by Morneau, Cabrera, Youk. But Rios has been the best all around centerfielder in the AL, by a lot. What a crock. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) I like Dayan a lot but if he continues to swing at everything he's destined to make a ton of outs in his career. You gotta be a bit selective or you are gonna get eaten alive in the big leagues. Hopefully he can learn that. Alexei got better his second year compared to first. Dayan had 5 walks before being called up. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:46 PM) Andruw is probably actually worth his salary as a defensive replacement. Problem is we just don't have enough roster spots with this weak of a lineup to keep him. Bring up De Aza. -

Thome with 2 more home runs today. OPS at .985. (long loud sigh)

More to the point, this is a list of players who by and large, we absolutely cannot get, or would have to give up our 3 best prospects. The couple names I see that we could potentially get with free agency coming up, Francoeur and Hawpe have a ton of downside. Namely, Hawpe is as bad as Dye in the field, and Francoeur does nothing well other than his strong arm in the outfield. His inability to draw a walk out Uribes Juan Uribe. We'd absolutely love to have Jason Werth, if the Phillies don't manage to resign him. He will cost an arm and a leg if that happens and I bet we don't get him.

Not that their opinion has any bearing, but here's Fangraphs on what LaRoche would likely cost: "Because his numbers have taken a dip since his strong April, Arizona will likely have to take a B- or C-level prospect for LaRoche." http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/t...deserve-a-shot/

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 06:01 AM) Corey Hart I like Corey Hart, and him in right and Q at DH would be an improvement. But I think Hart is hitting way over his head and will come back to earth, plus he's a righty. And the Brewers said they don't plan to be sellers. If we got a right-handed bat, I'd prefer Willingham.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) There are a lot worse right fielders than Dye for most of his Sox career here and Quentin. While they catch the balls that are in their range and have average to above-average arms, their range is a nightmare and a huge liability. Erasing a lot of the good they can do offensively. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) We need some guys who can hit. That's why I suggested Dejesus.
-
While it is not going to happen (unfortunately) we could upgrade the team a LOT more by adding a solid defensive right fielder and moving Quentin to DH, than by just adding Dunn (or Laroche, Berkman, Scott). By Fangraphs numbers, David Dejesus would be an improvement of 14.5 runs on defense compared to Quentin. Add in that he's just been 1.4 runs less valuable than Dunn on offense this year, and that's a glaringly better target, and a lot cheaper. There is very little chance of Quentin being moved to DH.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) I've been to Kaufmann, Comerica and this summer Rangers stadium. They are all really, really big. Rangers Stadium was massive. It looked like you could fit the Cell inside it. I believe you. I just wish I could see actual numbers to compare relatively how big one park is to the next. When I hear, "this park has a lot of ground to cover in the outfield," I'm caused to want to know how much ground to cover the field actually has compared to others.

An old one, rarely heard anymore "Your WHAT hurts?"
-
I don't think there are min./ max. dimensions. Fenway is like 300 to each of the foul poles. Tiger Stadium was 440 to dead center.

yikes. good night.
