  1. Wow, are we lucky in that inning. Gavin Floyd is a long fly ball out pitcher.
  2. Does it ever occur to a Sox pitcher (other than MB) to hold a runner? My goodness, Sheffield??
  3. Nice. Clete Thomas = Ryan Garko to White Sox. At least we got him there.
  4. On his show, Jim Rome said today, people who try to pass off April Fools jokes are essentially lame. He specifically gave the scenario of somebody saying, hey, did you hear the Red Sox traded Josh Beckett to the Yankees? This thread fits right into his rant.
  5. Don't we seem to play a lot of games against Cleveland like this? They can hit and I officially hate them. But, if we can have an offense like this, I think we will be fine. I will settle for a 6-6 start this year.
  6. I don't see Royce Huffman challenging for a roster spot anytime soon. Could we not have brought Fields along for the trip?
  7. Dye looks pretty slow out there. I am really worried about him this year. Good thing KW gave him 2 years at $9MM per.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) Dye's looked terrible every time I've seen him bat this spring. I am most concerned about Dye. Here we are already getting ripped by the umps. It would be awesome to see Ozzie kicked out of the Civil Rights Game.
  9. I still hold out hope that the Sox will be good this year, but the thing that I absolutely can't get over is the notion that Gavin Floyd will be a good pitcher. I have been pessimistic on him from Day 1. My pessimism goes right to the guy's career stats. He is what he is. His spring has been horrible, capped off by an embarrassing start today. I just don't get how Kenny could go into this spring and not even assemble the resemblance of a competition for the 4th and 5th starting pitcher slots. I love KW as the GM, but he tends to show an unexplainable and stubborn tendency to over-value guys. I remember being at Soxfest in 07 and hearing KW say that the MCCarthy trade was as much about getting Masset as it was Danks. Guess what? Massett sucks equally as bad as Floyd. KW, you are still the man, but cut out the B.S. and call a duck a duck. (btw - Toby Hall is also horrible)
  10. I don't get this. I guess I can live with the notion of Swisher batting leadoff, but how does he start in CF, vs. LF, with BA and Ramirez, who both would play the position better. Why not get Ramirez in this lineup and bat Swisher in an RBI producing position? BTW - Gavin Floyd sucks and KW is insane to hold to the notion that he will somehow be good.
  11. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) I'm not worried about Danks, I'm worried about this offense still not clicking. I can't think of one game this spring where we dominated. Great pitching is useless if you can't score some runs. I am concerned with that as well. It should sure would be nice to finish this week strong.
  12. This pattern of pitching (from a few guys we are relying on) is getting bothersome.
  13. QUOTE(daa84 @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) i really dont have a problem handing the ball to danks...he was a good pitcher for hte first half of the year last year, and at a really young age...it would certainly be nice to have someone other than floyd, but we'll see. If he continues to stink, hopefully we will have a short leash with him. I agree with you. I have some hope for Danks. If they do yank the leash on Floyd, who do we turn to?? Freddy Garcia?
  14. I would tend to give Floyd the benefit of the doubt if he actually had a track record of success. His only real success was last year in a few games vs. Detroit, when they had a depleted lineup. What we are seeing from him is what he has always displayed. It just bothers me that Kenny is putting so much faith in 2 pitchers who have never proven anything and one who had a really bad year last year. The fact that we can't seem to produce runs again is also bothersome. I guess this is just my spring panic, but I don't want to see what we saw last year.
  15. I know it is just spring training, but does anyone out there have any confidence that Floyd can be decent? Every time I see him, he just fits right into his pattern (i.e., giving up long fly balls - that are usually not outs). I am very concerned about the bottom 3 of this staff.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) Poreda has barely had any time in the minors. Lets wait for him to retire his first AA batter before we start to promote him to the rotation. He struck out Helton yesterday in a B game, with 5ks in 3 scoreless innings. All I am saying is this guy has a much higher upside, with a 96 + mph fastball. He may be put on a fast track. I hope I am wrong about Floyd. Maybe they can just start him vs. Detroit.
  17. Floyd - 6.55 ERA and 6/5 K/BB ratio in 11 innings. Two wild pitches today. I want to believe, but what Ive seen so far is on par w/his career numbers. I d rather bank on Poreda.
  18. Crazy idea - Why not wait until we see everyone pitch in the spring, before rushing to judge the potential signing? Hopefully, four question marks = 3 decent/+ starters. I think there are 1 to 2 more moves to be made before day 1, with Crede likely being one of them.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 01:17 AM) $4.5M He'll either be dealt before the season starts or start the year on the bench as the backup INF, he won't be released. Don't be surprised if he is starting at 2B. Ozzie mentioned it in the Dominican article posted above.
