  1. QUOTE(joeynach @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Time to play the kids. Trade Crede now and bring in some prospects. Let Fields play everyday at 3B and develop. Let Richar play everyday at 2B and develop. Let Quentin/Sweeney play everyday in LF and develop, let Owen/Anderson play everyday in CF and develop. I would like to send this post as a reply to the many posts that I have seen like this one. No offense, but people wake up! I keep reading comments about Owens, Quentin, Richar, et. al. These guys are all, so far, underachieving major leaguers and/or overachieving minor leaguers. What has anyone seen so far that makes you think that any of these guys will ever be any good? Was it their below .240 batting averages or their low on base percentages? Maybe it was Richar's lack of range at 2B? Maybe Quentin was a steal, but mabye he is another Luis Terrerro. This is Chicago, not Kansas City. We shouldn't have to suffer and pay good money to watch marginal players, that no one else wants, try to develop in the major leagues. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. I love the Sox and even like Kenny, but this story is getting old. We are always in the running for everyone (supposedly), but never get anyone. The Bulls tend to follow a similar path (i.e., close to getting Kobe). So, maybe it is a Reinsdorf thing and not a Kenny thing. Like many of you, I am devoted to this team and have spent a lot of money following them. I will continue to do so, win or lose. But, after '05, and the attendance boom that followed, I thought we were on the verge of being a perennial condenter, not a perennial pretender. Kenny, please tell us there is a plan to fix this. Enough talking, boasting, and posturing; it is time for action.
  2. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) We're stuck between gears. We have a very bright and aggressive general manager who really thinks best in terms of the short term............ Good post. I read similar comments at this site today: http://www.southsidesox.com/story/2007/12/5/14413/7622 Can you or someone explain what is meant by drafting above your slot?
  3. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:12 PM) I think somehow if the Sox sign Rowand/Fukudome and make a deal to get Brian Roberts, I would be pretty happy with this offseason. Who knows if any of this would happen but its a nice dream. Where are all of these rumors coming from? Now Brian Roberts? Erik Bedard? Sure, I will take both, plus Rowand and this will be the greatest offseason recovery ever. Yeah right. After getting my heart ripped out the past two weeks, I can't muster any enthusiasm to speculate on any top player coming to the Sox. The Sox are always the bridesmaid and never the bride. Unless we are ready to start competing with Detroit, LA, Boston, and NY, Kenny needs to stop spouting off about how they are going for a championship. I hate being this negative, but this team is a mess right now and I don't see how it gets fixed, barring a Sox spending spree of epic proportions. I don't know if anyone posted this yet, but this article is right on and all too depressing: http://www.southsidesox.com/story/2007/12/5/14413/7622
  4. How many years now have the Sox been rumored to be on the verge of landing some big player, only to come in a close second? Simply put, Detoit just kicked our a - - this offseason, along with everyone else in the league. I am tired of reading rumors about the Sox and want to see results. We got Carlos Quentin and the SS Cabrera, while losing John Garland. Detroit gets Renteria, M.Cabrera, and D-Train without detracting from last year's roster. Our minor leagues are flat out killing us, with limited prospects of any real value. Meanwhile, our major league roster is filled with underachieving, aging, slow, overpaid former stars. We lack at least 2 outfielders and have several other holes. With that said, I am still a fan and hope springs eternal.
  5. I say it will be Konerko, but fans will need to hop on one foot to try to beat him.
  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 05:43 PM) I think its really interesting that the same day we get a source on the board saying talks are underway (info from within the organization, we get this article on the Sox site. I was just curious where this "source info" was posted at. Earlier in the week, there was an article in the Trib saying essentially the same thing...that Rowand was still open to the idea. Then, on the same day, there was a Sun Times Joe Cowley article saying there was no chance of it happening as they weren't even in the same park in regards to possible terms. All I know is that they better do something fast. We can't have this same OF situation again. Jerry Owens, Brian Anderson, and Ryan Sweeney can't be relied on as options. I thought Minnesota made a real nice pick up in D. Young, even though Garza could be a stud pitcher.
  7. ''We are continuing on the mission of looking for targeted players that we believe to be type-1, type-2 guys in your rotation, while staying competitive.'' Quote from KW. "Competitive"???? that is all we want now?? In being such a big Sox fan, I am just sick to my stomach. This trade was awful. Kenny has made about 4 good trades in his tenure. The rest were just terrible. There is no way that we couldn't have gotten more for Garcia, no way. Terrible, terrible, terrible. And now we will look to deal more starters? We won't re-sign anyone? Great. Yeah, its not about money at all. Reinsdorf gets his WS, gets attendance way up and now is looking to pocket the money in my view. The rest is just all talk, like it has been in the past. Get rumoured in every deal, so that way it looks like we are trying to do something big. I hope I am wrong.
  8. This is absolutely freaking ridiculous!!!! Kenny is insane. What was all this talk that Kenny was biding his time to make a deal when the free agent market settled? This is just shocking and just takes the wind out of my sails. You mean we couldn't have held on to Freddy and got something a lot better for him during the season? Where was Rowand in this deal? Kenny just got hosed!!!! Even had Rowand been in this deal, I don't know if it would have made sense, but this is just an absolute joke.
  9. Cotts was bad last year, real bad. This Aaaaaarrrddsssmmaa dude, however you spell it, will be Coop's next miracle turnaround project.
  10. The post that started this thread has some good points (I didn't agree with them all). The Sox weaknessess last year were pretty well laid out, but to say this offseason is a bust, when it it only Nov. 20th is crazy. I think Kenny is waiting to see a few things shake out before moving. If nothing else is done, I think that it is critical that they add at least one OF with a better bat and improved glove. I can't handle B.A. again and I don't think he was all that great on defense, not enough to justify his bat anyway. I would like to see LF and CF both change over this season and wouldn't mind seeing Rowand back. No matter what, they can't have Uribe, B.A., and PODS, all hitting less than .250 next year, particularly when the rest of the lineup strikes out as much as it does. On the pitching front, I like Kenny's continued plan to add power pitchers to the pen. I think he will add 1-2 more. I wish we had some more power pitchers in that starting lineup. A lot of the rumours out there indicate that Sox will be trying to add a top young pitching prospect if one of our starters are moved.
  11. I hope the Garland rumour isn't true, unless Michael Young is coming back to us. I am getting antsy for Kenny to do something though. I am tired of hearing about the Cubs.
