More White Sox reading material on the way!!!
zimne piwo replied to zimne piwo's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not overly concerned about a "Tribune bias" permeating this new book (several teams already have their own issue, and several more are coming out this spring, according to the Triumph Books website). After years of seeing bookstore shelves chock full of books about that OTHER baseball team, I'm just glad to see more White Sox reading material becoming available to us. Here's a link: http://www.triumphbooks.com/products/white...1.php?page_id=8 -
48 out of 48!!! But then again I was always good at geography and reading maps.

Just came across this item regarding a new White Sox book! It's called WHITE SOX ESSENTIAL by Lew Freedman and it's the latest in a series including several other teams. Triumph Books is the publisher (who also issued SAY IT'S SO and TOTAL WHITE SOX). March 30, mark it down!!!

Sox on Veterans HOF ballot/results tuesday
zimne piwo replied to StatManDu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(StatManDu @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) Nellie Fox did get in before the current system was in place. There were some extenuating circmustances with good ol' No. 2. The most notable was the fact that one year he actually received 74.8 percent of the vote (or something like that) from the writers but the Hall would not round up (as you would do in every other facet of your life) claiming Fox did not get a pure 75 percent of the vote. Come on. In addition, I think, too, he was one of those players with Hall-like numbers that slipped through the cracks for a variety of reasons: He didn't play in many World Series, he didn't hit for a lot of power, he wasn't flashy or flamboyant in the media, he didn't play in New York (hello, Phil Rizzuto). Fox's candidacy was one that deserved a lot of study to make him a Hall of Fame. Non-glamor stats like total hits, fielding pct. and strikeout ratio had to be put in play to really examine the true essence of this player. As we have found out, writers (and I am one of them) don't always do their homework. Very well said, StatManDu. That final 1985 Baseball Writers' vote where he missed by 2 measly votes was downright cruel, and their insisting on the "pure 75%" vote total was asinine, so the Veterans' Committee did right by Nellie (although it took them FOREVER once Nellie was once again eligible in 1989; let's not forget he actually could have made it in one year earlier since he had 75% of the Veterans' vote, however Jim Bunning had more total votes and they were limited to enshrining one candidate ONLY). I was in Cooperstown for the 1997 induction ceremony when Nellie finally got his due, and it's a memory I'll cherish forever. -
QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) He wasn't voted in by the writers and he wasn't voted in by the vets. He dosen't belong in the Hall. He just didn't have the numbers. If he wants to whine for the next 2 seasons, Oh well. He just dosen't have a leg to stand on Ba-da-boom, Tishhhhhhhhhh

Will be there 3/7 for the Sox vs. KC at Electric Park and 3/8 vs. the Rockies at Hi Corbett.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 02:21 PM) I hope he is walked or beaned at every plate appearance this year. I would never pitch to him, unless it is chin music. I'm all for intentionally walking his sorry ass every at-bat.

One of my eBay conquests is a GROUP THERAPY board game, still in excellent condition. Most of you will know this as the board game they played on ALL IN THE FAMILY (with the "WITH IT" and "COP OUT" voting cards) where Mike thought everyone was ganging up on him.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 17, 2007 -> 08:59 AM) this shall hencetoforth be known as "The Kenny Rogers Rule" So I guess this means the umps may just drop in to see what condition his condition is in. Sorry, couldn't resist!

which current sox players will eventually be HOFers?
zimne piwo replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Pods20 @ Feb 16, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) If the sox can win another couple championships that would change everything I concur. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 15, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) He had every right to say what he did and for what he said he also has every right to take the heat for saying what he did. What he said was wrong, in my opinion, but he was fully entitled to saying it and he's fully entitled to the repercussions that will come from it. Bingo!!!

What kind of town is Chicago?
zimne piwo replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) I voted for baseball, I think it captures much more of the city and makes chicago summers the best in the country. I was pretty surprised that the city wasn't crazier for the bears. I think the '85 bears were obviously huge and won over the whole city but a big part of that was the lack of any championship sports teams for so long before them. I live on the near north side and when the sox won the world series it was amazing that all of the bars were full and people were going fricking nuts when the sox won...and this was in supposed cubs fan territory. Personally for me I am a bears fan but I am much more passionate of a white sox fan. So while everyone is a bears fan I would say that Chicagoans are more passionate fans to their baseball teams. As evidenced by the white sox world series championship and the yearly Cubs/Sox rivalry. Very well said... I concur! -
Fields and Danks in 1st annual ESPN Scouts Inc. top 25
zimne piwo replied to Vance Law's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(shipps @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 03:16 AM) Dude,Crede certainly has gold glove caliber defense.Just because he hasnt won one doesnt mean anything especially with that award. And as far as Fields being athletic enough is not the question, its just a matter of having the natural ability which Joe has. This is true; while the Gold Glove is a major honor, the way it's handed out reeks to high heaven of "popularity contest". -
QUOTE(NUKE @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 07:34 AM) HAHA!!! I love that name!!!!!! You have no idea how many of those signs I saw in my old neighborhood when I was growing up........when it was still Polish anyway. It's great in any language!

QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 26, 2007 -> 12:21 AM) Last Manlaw: Ad Execs who come up with s*** like that need to be severely beaten. Miller Lite commercials have all flat-out sucked since they abandoned the classic "Lite All-Stars" ad campaign.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 08:50 AM) Hard to tell. I know that he's been a fan for a long time, but I'd never really heard him mention the Sox before 05. FWIW I remember many of his earlier columns mentioning the White Sox; I also remember one of his columns from late 1989 where he insisted he wasn't hopping on to the Cubs bandwagon despite their divisional win that year.

QUOTE(Cali @ Jan 26, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) As a shaggy haired person, I'm gonna go ahead and say BA needs to keep it long. He was all clean cut at the begining of the year and SUCKED He let it grow toward the end of the year and SUCKED a little less. I think the choice is clear.... ... and avoid Delilah if at all possible. No really, avoid Delilah... her sappy love songs show is so Lame!!!

How about AJ? Or Hibbard (wasn't Greg Hibbard the "Little Bulldog"?)

No question, for me it will always be the 2005 White Sox World Championship. I like the Bears, but I'm much more into baseball than football, plus I enjoyed the Super Bowl XX victory immensely so seeing them in a second Super Bowl (albeit 21 years later) has nowhere the impact of a championship that was 88 years in the making (and one that until that point I never thought I'd live to see!).
