  1. One thing Viciedo departing has accomplished is providing Hawkins (and not Mitchell or Danks) a lot more at-bats with the big league club. Please let Montas also demonstrate what he can do, Coop...
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 07:24 AM) If OSU beats Wisconsin, Iowa gets the double bye 4 seed.there is some stuff with NU gets a bye with a Nebraska and Minnesota loss IIRC. Not counting on that happening even if Russell goes off for 40. Just want shots at Purdue and Wisky again...Aaron White was injured, it was on the road and they still had a good opportunity to win in the final minute and it got away.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 08:16 AM) I couldn't believe the fashion in which he got taken down...then again, you had the feeling he was never going to get to Stanfield. Somehow, I thought they were going to ultimately indict and apprehend the two Greeks at the very top of the food chain...never happened.
  4. Would rather throw $30-$40 million at Alvares...lets just put it this way, you always bet on three of those young possible studs in their twenties compared to a guy already in his thirties getting $100 million plus. That said, the presence of Montas and another top ten pick in a draft loaded with collegiate pitchers mitigates the pressing need, at least somewhat.
  5. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?g...;mode=probables Doesn't say just notes Comcast CA as broadcaster.
  6. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/111636444/in...t-not-there-yet Sale progressing but "not there yet." Believes it will only take a week or two to get his arm ready.
  7. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/111653210/wh...e-major-leagues Discuss. Thanks, Craig Grebeck
  8. 3:05 CST Radio but delayed tv A's are off to a scintillating 4-0 start, Sox losers of three consecutive. Drew Pomeranz starting.
  9. http://www.thegoodphight.com/2015/2/13/803...-yadier-alvarez You'd have to guess Alvarez (comps to Pedro and Ramon Martinez) will get at least $20-30 million x two as well...same situation as Moncada, under 23. http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...nt-sign-july-2/ Since Alvares won't be eligible until July 2nd, the Angels Rays Red Sox Yankees and DBacks are already out of the running. Still leaves the Padres Dodgers Giants Cubs Rangers Mariners Cardinals Phillies, etc. Sounds very similar to Montas.

The wire one of the best tv series in history....imo. Just 10 years late to the party, ha.
  11. Purdue Indiana and Illinois with virtually identical rpi numbers in the high 50s. http://hawkeyenation.com/basketball/b1g-to...d-possibilities B10 tourney seeding possibilities Indiana/Minnesota and Illinois/mi with the latter winner getting the Badgers. Ind would face MD...if they could pull out of their slide. Purdue with the double bye as a 4. As an Iowa fan, it would be great to get one more shot at the Badgers the way we're playing currently. The first two were blowouts.
  12. Veteran p Chris Young signs with the Royals as rotation/front end of the bullpen insurance policy. Looks like lhr Tim Collins will be undergoing TJ surgery.
  13. Paulo Orlando just homered for KC to add insult to injury, and Alex Rios with his 3rd homer after four in all of 2014. On the plus side, Avisail es en fuego
  14. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 02:52 PM) I watching it in my laptop as well, it was the only thing it works on. Putnam getting hit HARD right now Now joined by Surkamp among the bruised and battered. Time will quickly tell if Putnam was a one year wonder. It wouldn't shock anyone, certainly. You know its bad when Scott Carroll is trying to bail you out, regardless of the circumstances.
  15. http://mlb.mlb.com/cws/team/exe_bios/fabian_dan.html They also just recently promoted Fabian, who quietly has been behind-the-scenes with the Sox for longer than most sox talk posters have been alive. (He was already discussed earlier in the thread.) http://www.southsidesox.com/2012/2/28/2831...ball-operations This was a very thorough and detailed interview, worth ten Merkin pieces. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...ball-operations Who does statistical analysis of Notre Dame fencing to start a sports career?
  16. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) What happened 2 or 3 years ago dosen't matter, when White was circling interviews the new CBA was already in effect. What happened 2 or 3 years ago is irrelevant. And you can still bring in guys like White and Greg Morhardt (The guy who scouted Trout) into the org without firing anybody. What possible position could they give him that wouldn't be considered a demotion, or, at best, a lateral move? Not seeing it. Plus, location has to count for something when he was already out in LA. And the appeal of being part of the building of a completely new front office compared to joining the fairly static Sox group. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/nov/01...ires-offseason/ http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/team/front...ce.jsp?c_id=cws Where would you put White exactly? Haber was just promoted and is being groomed. You can't demote Fabian, Capra, Bell, KW, Paddy, Laumann
  17. Cmon Tyler, one of two places you don't want to hit the ball on the infield in that situation. None of the 2B candidates distinguishing themselves early.
  18. Well, Indiana now has to win at least one more game...and pray for a limited number of conf tourney upsets.
  19. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 06:50 PM) I'm not saying that he didn't, I have actually been hoping for this promotion since last year, when I became aware of him and his role in the org. Im aware of both Paddy and Bell, I was a big fan of the Paddy signing and I love what the Sox have been doing internationally. I hope Todd Severson can install a hitting philosophy throughout the organization, but that seems to be taking place as he holds the camps every offseason and is pretty hands on during instructs. It is said that Hahn is a pretty well connected guy throughout MLB, and if that is the case I would love to see him bring in some more people from the outside and give some guys who are already in the org bigger roles, like Nick Capra for example. There was one scout in particular that I was upset that the Sox didn't pursue and that was Logan White, who was the Dodgers' scouting director. He handled both the draft and INTL market for the Dodgers and he brought in Kershaw, Puig, Kemp, Seager, Ryu, Eithier, Pederson, Russell, Carlos Santana etc. He is highly respected in baseball circles. To my understanding, White and Coletti got into an argument over the lack of growth in the minor leagues, specifically because of guys like Zach Lee not developing quickly. So White had a lot of his duties stricken from him, Coletti would go on to lose his job a year or two later and the Dodgers have one of the best farms in all of baseball thanks to White, who is now a special assistant to the GM in San Diego. I followed the situation on MLBTR, hoping to see the Sox mentioned and they never pursued him (from what I was able to gather through MLBTR and True Blue.) Yes this is one instance, and the Sox have gone outside to nab Paddy and Bell, but I want to see more new blood and I really want Hahn to really make the FO his own. Or the guy who brought in Trout and a lot more Angels' top prospects. That said, with Laumann in place already, it would have meant firing him...and/or Bell. For whatever reason, they apparently preferred to invest time and energy into Haber and hope he catches up on the talent eval side. Another factor is probably the limited White Sox intl. resources up until 2-3 seasons ago. Maybe he preferred AJ Preller to Hahn, we'll probably never be privy to what internal discussions occurred regarding White.
  20. Curious timing of the UCL rumors here. Can't be a coincidence. But hey, we've got Beckham already. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/...ivera/#comments Can't imagine how the Padres can pull this move off as well...
  21. The Padres' announcer implied there was no correlation between stolen bases and having an effective offense. I guess he didn't watch the Royals from July on...
  22. I think the consensus is that Rodon's target range is probably 140-160 ip with a then reasonable expansion to 185-205 in 2016. By the way, the fact that Harvey is already back to 99 mph after surgery with the Mets might encourage other teams to push the envelope knowing how far TJ surgery has evolved...and wary of another Strasburg situation repeating itself.
  23. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) Nope doesnt happen. Hugh Hefner, Tony Curtis, Anna Nicole Smith's ex at least once. Larry King, Banana George Blair...Arnie and Sly Stallone.
  24. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/03/hect...ucl-damage.html Wonder who leaked this out there as a negotiating tactic? Astros again? Probably not, since they already have Altuve and Correia.
