  1. 90 pitches already. Belisario up. White Sox had that golden opportunity to blow the game wide open early and Viciedo, DeAza and Flowers couldn't get it done. Knew that was going to come back to bite them somehow at Fenway. Danks throwing more change-ups than fastballs, seemingly.
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:49 PM) Danks trying to blow this game... Boston was the World Series winner last year. As bad as things have gotten, they still have a lot of pride...and even the belief they can get back into the race this year, albeit a faint belief.
  3. Bogaerts 4/6 with 2 walks career-wise against Danks. So much for the lead. Need to trade him ASAP. There's just no way he's going to be anything but a .500ish 4th starter. That's not worth the money they are paying him, even in modern baseball economics. The only out this inning was hit 410 feet.
  4. This inning falling apart pretty quickly.
  5. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/brazil-s-wors...-222748085.html Good story that kind of captures the disaster from a national/global perspective. Brazil will take a long time to recover from this one. The Olympics will help, but the anti-politicians/corruption/spending waste mood is palpable.
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:36 PM) I thought this year would be a bit of a cleanse with some new faces but my sunny outlook is being pissed on by the same old Beckham and Flowers. I look forward to never seeing either as a starting player on the Sox after this season. Flowers can stay around as a backup catcher if he wants, Beckham can just go away. More like an enema.
  7. Things are getting so bad, I wouldn't be against bringing back AJ Pierzysnki for one year, lol. Carp, Gomes, AJ, Peavy are all on the block. Napoli will generate a lot of trade interest, but he's been slumping recently. Unfortunately not LHed. If you're the Red Sox, do you try to trade Lester? Big decision. Harder to bring him back, but they've been pretty open to letting veterans at age 30 or above leave for greener pastures. Still, he's their ace.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:32 PM) I knew Beckham was struggling but wow have his overall numbers really plummeted. He's another game or two from being below .200 against RHP. It won't get any easier for him against Rubby De La Rosa tmrw. Flowers strikes out. Not newsworthy.
  9. 18 consective innings in a row without a run for Boston. Not good. Danks is giving them plenty of chances, 4 walks...in the Top 10 for that category, as well as 14 homers allowed (28 in 2013). Lucky the wind didn't help Ross' ball over the Green Monster there.
  10. Stupid play, DeAza, unless you know you're going to be safe. The last player in baseball you want leading off an inning now is Tyler Flowers.
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:03 PM) If you guys are going to get this down on Eaton this quickly, you're just not going to enjoy being a baseball fan Not down. Just expected a bit more. It's good to have high expectations. After all, Adam was the one who helped to set them, just like Gordon did in his rookie season and when he was drafted. Really, it wouldn't matter if his OPS was 625-650, we'd have no choice but to play him everyday. So in Boston, Jose Abreu is Jose Aruba, DeAza is Diaz and Viciedo is Visay-yeahdo. Not good.
  12. One thing he would bring is lots of experience around a winning/playoff team. We need these types of veterans to mix in with our young core IMO.
  13. Mark Salas coaching 1B with Daryll Boston gone. Salas is a rare palindrome. BTW, the Justin Verlander Train got derailed again tonight. Five runs surrendered in the first inning (including a Juan Game-Winning URIBE tater). Now batting, Jose Aruba....ugh...Abreu. Good job Red Sox radio team.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) I stopped reading after that.... Pretty sure a 695 OPS and 264 average isn't very good...unless our bar is set really low. Plus, he hasn't been walking or stealing enough bases for a leadoff hitter. He's been okay, but I'd venture if you look up the expectations the day he was acquired, they were for a 750-825 OPS line, 340 OBP, etc.
  15. DeAza 0 for 7 with the bases loaded this season. Yikes. Gee, another Flowers K. What a surprise.
  16. Beckham 348 vs LHP, 209 vs. RHP. Yikes. 2 for his last 25. 14 innings and counting without a run for the Red Sox.
  17. Because they're showcasing Beckham for a trade, lol. Eaton's really been slumping his last ten games again. Such an inconsistent season from him. Has to be considered a bit of a disappointment so far, but not quite to the point where he's not projected to start again in 2015 (and honestly, who else do we even have to replace Viciedo and DeAza, let alone Adam?)
  18. What I meant was when half their "real" prospects start failing like Olt and Lake. There are already major question marks around Almora (power/promoted too quickly), Baez (fielding/contact) and Soler (health). Johnson and Edwards have been out. The prospects doing really well are Bryant (high K numbers still, you have the feeling he might be too overconfident and get exposed), Alcantara, Schwarber and the 19 year old Korean pitcher (think he's at Daytona). Vizcaino and some of the AAA starters look good on paper, but that doesn't always translate (see Jamie Carroll). Even Russell has some health concerns now with the hamstring problem/s. BTW, Cubs have not lost four in a row.
  19. Have Beckham and Flowers bottomed out? We'll find out soon enough. Workman might be pitching for another team soon...or Peavy. Red Sox desperately need OF bats, and dearly miss the presence of Victorino, their "does all the little" things glue player.
  20. Van Persie is out though, right? Robben's been their been best attacking player this tourney, certainly more consistent, the iconic RVP header to tie the score against the Spanish notwithstanding. This one could go either way. You kind of have a feeling that first goal wins it.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) Look at his total extra base hits. His stats are pretty darn good this year. Yeah, a month ago...he was around 30-40 for all of MLB for OPS. Like the White Sox offense, he's faded quite a bit with the Rangers' overall collapse. So there's that as well. Rios doesn't seem to play with as much focus when his team is kind of drifting along out of contention. So another concern.
  22. How long are they going to keep running Erik Johnson out there this season before they sit him down for a couple of weeks and work on the mental side of things?
  23. Is supposedly available from the Cardinals....his name is being mentioned in the Peavy talks. Any interest? StL needs pitching help, and Beckham/Ramirez were rumored to the Cardinals last year, so not sure if there's a match. Boston media currently doesn't think StL would accept that deal, Peavy for Craig, straight up. http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/stats/_/id/30399/allen-craig Only has a 659 OPS for the moment, and RH. But still at 810 for his career, and a consistent 2.2/2.2/2.3 WAR player. Will turn 30 in July, so maybe a bit beyond his prime.
  24. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 03:58 PM) What Colombian? the one who cracked Neymar's vertebrae with the knee to the back
  25. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 04:30 PM) The last part would seriously depend on where you go...there are places I wouldn't want to be -- ever -- and places I love to visit, but I always love coming home. That said, my absolute favorite place to travel is right here, the US of A. This entire study, if it can be called that, is a complete matter of perspective (or lack thereof), not to mention opinion. Yeah, hence the near-term reactions or overreactions in Cambodia and Thailand, for example. Anyone who has travelled extensively to both places would pick Thailand, except for the presence of Angkor Wat, which is can't miss.
