  1. You'd almost swear that West did that intentionally to test Selig's nearly blanket protection of the umpires.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 04:14 PM) Mariners have him lunging to cover the outer half. Fukudome will probably get a start in LF tomorrow. Millwood the way he's going is not a great match-up for Dayan, but he doesn't have the super high velocity, so you never know. We win again today, he might only change out Flowers...and that's not even a sure thing with back-to-back day games. 6th time in 7 innings the leadoff man reaches for the M's. Joe West with the balk call. Cue Hawk rant? Did his knee go behind the pitching rubber? Went for the controversial call when it was far far far from clear that it was a balk.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 04:09 PM) Zach Stewart has a good sinker and a good changeup. Mix in a breaking ball and consistent command (he's been fairly good in this area, really) and he should be an innings-eater starter SHOULD being the key word of that sentence.
  4. Quintana would still be more effective as the long man, but perhaps he's going to have to go down to BIRM/CHAR and continue starting as our primary insurance policy. We don't want Stewart as our 5th, that's for sure.
  5. QUOTE (MAX @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 04:03 PM) He did throw a curve. 3-2. Was fouled off. Plus he doesn't call the pitches. It wasn't a curve. It was something like a cutter/slider/spinner, but it most definitely wasn't a curveball. Really hard to call Stewart's pitches because almost all of them are 82-89 MPH these days.
  6. How the hell do you lose a 0-2 count to Brendan Ryan? Jesus. Stewart sucks. Just had to throw a curveball, but no. And Hudson needs to learn he's playing 3B, not SS as well...almost starting to miss Morel's defense, because they should have had a DP or at the very least the forceout at 2B.
  7. There's going to be more than 10 homers in this game. Shades of 2000.
  8. Thankfully Jaso got thrown out or it would be a 3 run lead. You can't really blame Ventura 100% there, you have to try to get at least 4 innings from your starter....and the game was tied for the 2nd time. If ever there's a game that was meant to go to the Mariners, it's probably this one. But we're still just one big swing away from the lead or a tie game.
  9. Why would you go with Ohman over Santiago? Doesn't make sense. Santiago can go 2-3 innings if he has to, Ohman can't. And mid 90's heat against their top four hitters (Montero's the one to watch out for, quiet so far)...is what they need more than high 87-91 MPH.
  10. Please put Santiago into the game. Thanks, Gavin!
  11. Please put Santiago into the game. Thanks, Gavin!
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) Have you missed Ichiro's career? Nope. I'm just saying what was the right play FUNDAMENTALLY. Whether he could or should have gone, that's another issue. Farmer and DJ both pointed the same thing out (watching tv feed with radio on).
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) No. He did what he was supposed to. Go halfway between 2nd and 3rd and then have to turn around and bust his butt to get back to 2B? Hmmm.... The ball drops, he still doesn't score. If he does the right thing fundamentally, he at least has a 50/50 shot to get to 3rd on Ichiro. As it turned out, we scored the run anyway, but he didn't do what he was taught to do in the minors.
  14. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) Wow, their left fielder is awful! Thank you! And he can't hit, lol.
  15. Beckham continuing to pick away at the middle of the diamond. Very close play at 2B. Great baserunning there by Beckham...the opposite of Hudson's play.
  16. More bad baserunning by Hudson there. Should have been tagging up...he wasn't going to score from 2nd even if that ball had dropped anyway.
  17. They always say how Ichiro could hit 20-30 homers if he wanted to...at this stage in his career, why doesn't he try to load up more often? Legitimately, he can hit the ball about as far as anyone in batting practice, so what does he have to lose? I guess they did try to move him to 3rd in the order, it didn't take, Seager took off with the bat and Ichiro was quickly moved back to leadoff again.
  18. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) Now you know that's not what I was alluding to. But if i must......They should ADVERTISE the fact that they're releasing $5 upper deck ticket for TOR series. Actually, it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to let fans bring drinks/food in (maybe for Mon-Thursday games)...but once you started, it would be a pain in the ass to stop or reverse. Or maybe they could let fans who sit in the upper deck do this...to make them feel poorer or cheaper, like steerage class on the Titanic or the current trend in "economy/budget terminals" like they have in Singapore.
  19. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 02:42 PM) Nice hr by 'zynski Two to two Hope we win this one 18-9. They hit solo hrs, we hit two run hrs NO NO NO Just brings back nightmare flashbacks of the 1983 playoff series against BALT. If it's not Tito Landrum, it's Jerry Dyb......
  20. With Avila struggling a bit the first half and now out for awhile, AJ definitely has a great shot to make it as the back-up. And he's one of the few guys on the team with a lot of national name recognition when fans outside of Chicago are filling out All-Star ballots. Of course, many of those fans dislike/boo him. Other than that, you've got Sale and Konerko. Viciedo and Dunn are pretty much long-shots.
  21. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 02:05 PM) Sox are in on Youkilis and if it happens they want it done soon. But if it doesn't happen, it didn't happen quickly enough?
  22. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) This is a funny discussion. Everybody is right. Yes, the White Sox have a small fan base. Yes, the common everyday Joe can't afford to go to games any more. I can barely afford to go to games and when I do I can't afford to eat. I sneak in some snacks and go to Wendy's on the way home. This is a great deal. If I were in the Chicago area, I would definitely be taking advantage it. They need to advertise it! If they don't it wont help to increase attendance much. They need to advertise that you can sneak in food? Well, I remember always going to Taco Bell across from Kauffman Stadium and parking for free, but it all adds up. Movies are the same way. But I'll still order at least a Dr. Pepper in the stadium, lol. Can't survive without some type of drink and chili cheese fries.
  23. Ventura is really pushing all the starters this year...hopefully they can all hold up in August/September. Then again, the superstitious baseball manager never changes a line-up's that working, except for the catcher occasionally.
  24. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 03:27 PM) So we need a 3B and a starter....With the way Gavin has been playing starter is more of a need The problem is that who are going to trade to get one...Gavin? Matt Thornton? We're just going to have to play "whack a mole" with Quintana and all of our minor league starters, in all likelihood.
  25. Gavin Floyd might be the Alex Rios/Adam Dunn of 2011. If it wasn't for Danks' DL stint, John'd be more noticeable on that list of villains too, especially with the new contract.
