  1. Sale would take at least 4 weeks before he'd even be ready to start and go 5-6 innings. Maybe 5 or 6. They'd be better off using Doug Davis or Hector Santiago. There aren't very many good options. Stewart's not ready, and it seems Cooper might ask to work with him as the long man first out of the bullpen before they're ready to consider him as a starter. Probably we won't see him (Stewart or Sale, for that matter) get a start until SEPT or more than likely spring training.
  2. It's your move, Atlanta Braves. Negotiating back and forth over his 10/5 rights and what his agent wants in exchange for waiving them, but it seems to be a done deal.
  3. QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) I know this is old hat... but it bothers me whenever I think about it.... the trade last year was one of the worse trades KW has made. All these "top" prospects are barely comparable to Dan Hudson in my opinion. There isn't one person in the world that could convince me that trading Dan Hudson for Edwin Jackson was a smart move. EVEN IF THE CORRESPONDING RUMORED DUNN DEAL WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. Hudson for Dunn is moronic. Hudson was under control at a low cost for many more years, and he looked like a LEGIT #3 starter in the AL at age 22! I have not been able to get past that bad trade. As much as I am following all the White Sox rumors, KW ruined my faith in his decision making and where this team is heading. I'm sure he'll either trade Thornton for garbage that will not work out, or he'll stand pat and the Sox will miss the playoffs by 3 or 4 games. But hasn't Phil Humber pitched better than Daniel Hudson, not even taking into account the league difference/s? And we control his rights for the same amount of time as the DBacks do Hudson...
  4. But changing out Danks for Zack Stewart basically means you're surrendering 2011. That's one thing that KW won't do, unless he's simply overwhelmed with an offer that brings back major league ready pitching of a higher caliber than Stewart.
  5. Wonder if Greg Walker has ever been referenced after a trade (of a White Sox hitter) in any positive way, shape or form? Cue Dick Allen response, haha. Maybe it will happen today, "Carlos Quentin, after joining the White Sox and working with Greg Walker starting in 2008...."
  6. Except Betemit already got a key hit to win a game against us this week. Inge is there, we probably sweep the Tigers and are possibly tied with them or 1 game back today.
  7. We'd be lucky to get 2 prospects from #6-10. I don't think we're going to get anything close to 3-4-5 guys unless we're trading multiple players. The Pence trade involved really high upside guys, but ones with question marks that were probably 2+ or 3 years away from the majors. It's much more important for KW to get at least AA prospects that are within a season of Chicago.
  8. They are different. We play the Twins 18 times per year and the Red Sox/Yankees 6-7 games per year usually.
  9. Scouting Report: Reddick is a naturally-gifted athlete that can put the bat on the ball. He's a contact hitter with a quick bat and very good present power. He has a sweet-looking uppercut swing - starts with his hands held high then brings them low-and-up through the zone. Creates good lift on the ball when he turns on it. An aggressive hitter at the plate, he needs to improve his plate discipline. He swings at a lot of balls off the plate, and he can also get pull-happy on occasion. Needs to work on hitting to all fields. Has shown some resistance to the Sox disciplined approach, but his pitch recognition and approach have improved after some seasoning. His frame is athletic and lean, with some potential to fill out. If he adds strength to his wiry frame, there's not much limit to his power potential. In the field, Reddick has above-average range to go along with excellent arm strength and outstanding accuracy. Great hustle, always goes all out. Reads the ball well coming off the walls. Can play all three OF positions well, probably best suited for right field. Some scouts have commented that Reddick has the range to be a full time major league center fielder. Perfect Greg Walker candidate. How can we mess him up? Joking, Dick Allen.
  10. Just depends if they want a CFer or corner outfielder. CF, it's Crisp/Bourn/Upton...maybe they even go with a guy like Reed Johnson, although that would be higher risk if they really want to compete in the playoffs.
  11. I still think we should just trade Danks to the Yankees. That will save a lot of money on his travel expenses since he can simply stay in town Sunday night. Would much rather see that than Mark Buehrle on the dreaded NY squad. Who the heck is their #2 starter if the playoffs started today? AJ Burnett? REALLY?
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) Where's the hyperbole there? We have a 7 man pen. One of those guys is a LHP, former starter, who has had 4 outings in the last 10 days, 2 of which were 2.2 or 3 innings. I was just referring to the "destroying everyone" part of your post. Carry on. Never mind.
  13. 7-29 isn't quite 14-2 To put that in perspective, the Red Sox would have to go 5-15 over the next 2-3 seasons head-to-head to equal our level of ineptitude in the face of the Amazon River Contagion/Quarantine Team.
  14. DEREK HOLLAND 1 year/$431,810M (2011) re-signed by Texas 2/17/11 1 year/$414,430 (2010) re-signed by Texas 2/24/10 1 year (2009) contract purchased by Texas 4/18/09 drafted 2006 (25-748) (Wallace State CC, Ala.) (draft & follow) $0.2M signing bonus ML service: 1.120 That would be a great "payroll" move again to save on Thornton...since we basically paid him pseudo-closer money based on expectations coming into this season with that extension.
  15. Hyperbole, Balta? LOL. Things are much better around here when J4L can make death threats (I know, like saying "bomb, bomb, bomb" if you're Ben Stiller) against Red Sox Nation and nary a debate broke forth. And no punk trolls from Sons of Sam Horn arrived to gang rape him with online bullying. Guess everyone's more concerned about our "debt crisis" than gay slurs or racial epithets these days. Good to see we're all back to White Sox baseball talk.
  16. I blame greg's problems on Bobby Jenks, Ozzie Guillen, Greg Walker and Obama. Greg, not sure what to say. I know when I was teaching, my first year in a public high school, I went from 120/80 to 130/80. I'm borderline on some of my cholesterol numbers because I have had the most atrocious diet in the world for most of the last 20-25 years...but I try to counterbalance that with exercise as much as possible. And my BP and pulse rates are always normal or within "normal range." My father died of a massive heart attack at 63, and my mom's on Lipitor/Crestor (as well as mild diabetes), so I've been watching things more carefully now that I'm 41. She's 82, by the way. And I did have kidney stones 4 years ago, but that's from my obsession with caffeine/Dr. Pepper and drinking 2-3 sodas per day, which I know is horrible but I can't break that habit.
  17. At least this week, we can sacrifice Peavy to Sabathia. Which means that Peavy will ratchet it up to 95-96, throw a shutout and at least SOME will be back on his bandwagon.
  18. Here I thought Greg Hibbard would give a Rongey-esque spin on the matter, and he ends up sounding like Dick Allen. Yay! Guess you might not get the job as Brooks Boyer's assistant after all... We can't add road construction/ease of access to the reasons for 2011?
  19. Nothing has ever been easy for a Leyland team in the 2nd half. Not even World Series 2006. They still have an even worse fear of the Twins than we do.
  20. You're assuming Verlander stays healthy. Maybe he will. Just wonder how much wear and tear that arm can take? Penny's been getting hit hard in the early innings of nearly every start these past 2-3 weeks. And Valverde's been getting by with smoke and mirrors all season. His stuff isn't like Doug Jones, but he's not as good as Santos will eventually be. And Ryan Perry/Zumaya falling off the map has hurt a bit. And I'll take Frasor/Crain over Benoit any day of the week.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) Tigers get Fister and Pauley...not good for the Sox They're only putting themselves in a position to MAYBE have the ability to compete with the White Sox. We have nothing to fear. KW
  22. Purcey out, Pauley in. LOL They still have 2-3 holes in that bullpen of theirs.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) DKnobler DKnobler by mlbtraderumors Furbush is expected to go to Seattle in deal for Fister (with others). Tigers trying to get reliever (not League), too Furbush STYMIED, DPed and FISTed in his attempt to join Brandon League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. That's for Fathom.
  24. Hopefully showcasing means something different, like what happened to Bedard last night. You'd have to think it's likely to backfire, although the Angels aren't exactly a bruising offense, either. So Turner gets the start against Haren over Look Out/8 Degrees BELOW?
  25. And Twins are +14, they've gained a grand total of 1.5 games on us. 1-7 against them head-to-head hasn't helped much, lol. 4-3 and we're tied for first place.
