  1. By my count, we're 1 for 6 with RISP. But that one with Alexei/Pierre last inning hurt. I guess it's "even" because you almost expected Guillen to drive in those 2 runs last half inning. Jackson has stranded quite a few runners as well. Another sellout, 40,000+. I really hope they don't get Jose Reyes and move Peralta back to 3B. It might cause KW to make a desperation countermove. The only question is whether they have the minor league pieces to get it done. Jacob Turner?
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) No low fastballs to Guillen here. Or no fastballs at all...even though that first slider was a ball and a hanger, it got his timing off the FB.
  3. Konerko did a great job with the bad hop. Great to see Jackson finally earning his paycheck against a dangerous line-up in our division.
  4. Ramirez has to get rid of that ball faster. Needs to catch and throw in one smooth motion...
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 04:44 PM) Or Mark Kotsay. Or Luis Terrero. Or Brian Anderson. Or a gorilla. Luis Terrero actually hit fairly decently for us that one year. Showed a bit of pop, his average wasn't anywhere close to below 200, I remember that much. Now Julio Ramirez might be a better comparison. Or Brian Simmons.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) 1 for 15 for the 2nd half boys so far? Yet somehow Dunn has 15 more RBI's than Rios. That 2 RBI single off Verlander last night was the key to the game....and his last homer should have keyed a Sox comeback victory but we frittered it away. Rios hasn't done ANYTHING to help us win a game in weeks.
  7. Dunn should be in the 150's now. Good God, that's hard to do. Even for Rob Deer or Dave Kingman.
  8. It's pretty amazing when you think if we hadn't played the Indians this season yet, we'd be 5-15 against the AL Central. Still, we're right there in the thick of things, despite everything's that gone wrong.
  9. Wow, Alexei has really struggled with those runners on 3rd with less than 2 outs. Pierre froze...thought the pitcher was going to snag it and then it was too late to go. Peralta was going to 1B the whole time. Dammit. That third run would have looked mighty nice on the scoreboard. Oh well, let's get 'em, Edwin.
  10. You're not going to get Michael Young for Alex Rios. Not unless you include a significant sweetener to that deal going to the Rangers. Pierre getting quite lucky. Would have been out by a mile with the bad jump but Avila couldn't handle it. 15 SB's.
  11. Because we'd be wasting $43 million dollars, and JR/KW will never admit defeat on that big a contract. They definitely should try ANYTHING different. Lillibridge against lefties, DeAza/Milledge/Danks, just DO something. As long as that something's not overpaying for Beltran with Viciedo. In retrospect, you can say that Ozzie deserves some credit for sticking by Pierre. But this thing with Rios is just illogical. And hitting Dunn 3rd/4th against LHP.
  12. 2-3 years ago, it looked like Peralta's major league career was nearly over. Horrible defense and not enough power, too many K's with the Indians. Good thing there are 2 outs. Why is Peralta not at third? Peralta just jogged to 2B. Jackson's taking a page from the Verlander book. Getting beat on change-ups and sliders but really popping the fastball now, got up to 97. If he gets that ERA back under 4.00, his value goes up quite a bit psychologically...especially if you look at his other peripherals.
  13. Even Aaron Rowand has a 646 OPS. Funny that Juan Pierre is now beating him in this category, too. Love DJ describing Victor Martinez as an "average" catcher. Not quite!
  14. Juan Pierre, 648 OPS Alex Rios, 560 OPS Just wow. Hard to imagine that even Brian Anderson could be doing much worse than that. Heck, Kotsay/Erstad/Mackowiak would be beating it. He's on a pace for 30-35 RBI's. How is that even possible hitting where he does in the line-up?
  15. Quentin now 5/7 after the Break, back up to 873 OPS. That's a ton of hitter for the Braves, Giants or Phillies. Thanks Rios. Please put yourself on the PUP list. BTW, wonder if the DBacks would like to undo that Joe Saunders for Haren deal?
  16. If Danks is starting WED against the Royals, when is Peavy going? Santiago back to BIRM to start?
  17. Gotten beat on 2 change-ups so far this inning. Need to get Boesch/Ordonez b4 Cabrera comes up. Keep pumping those fastballs on Boesch's hands, thanks. Nice recovery from Edwin. Always seems to pitch pretty well against his former team. Getting that ERA into respectable territory again, and limiting his pitch count.
  18. 2 out hitting with RISP. Nice. Hanging slider spinning up there. Good to see us piling up some singles and moving the line.
  19. Wow, a rare Pierre stolen base. Great slide by Juan, missed the tag. Looks like he tagged the sleeve/jersey....we got a break there.
  20. Nope, they'll give it to Cano for his hitting and for being a Yankee. It's always the most difficult to win your first. If Gordon was hitting like he did in 2009, he'd get a lot more publicity.
  21. Yeah, mostly Verlander. Nice weather. The team was in first place at the Break. Friday night. One of their main rivals, a team they'd beaten in 11 of the 12 previous meetings dating back to last season. Guess the fans smelled blood in the water.
  22. Carlos Guillen is officially replacing Raburn at 2B (for at least a couple of weeks, or maybe the rest of the season if he hits)...$13 million they're spending on him, not sure who's getting the worst deal, the Tigers with Inge/Ordonez/Guillen or us with Rios/Peavy/Dunn? Guess Santiago, Raburn and Inge will all be fighting for playing time. They really could use Beltran, too. Austin Jackson's going on the DL, Ordonez is giving them nothing (average or power-wise)...they've been piecing things together with Boesch, Wells and Dirks. Magglio has a .589 OPS. That's Alex Rios bad. And we all know about him defensively. http://www.freep.com/article/20110712/SPOR...cond-half-curse Insightful article on why the Tigers have had a 170-200 record under Leyland in the 2nd half and choked away big leads against the Twins twice. Baseball insiders believe the Detroit Tigers will continue big-game hunting before the July 31 trade deadline, hoping to land another front-line pitcher, such as Colorado's Ubaldo Jimenez, or an impact position player, such as the Mets' Jose Reyes or Carlos Beltran. Tigers General Manager Dave Dombrowski and manager Jim Leyland are both in the final year of their contracts, so the team has a feeling of desperation. Most teams are afraid to unload prospects and mortgage the future; but most teams don't have as much riding on one season as the 2011 Tigers.
  23. http://www.beerleaguer.com/whitesox/2011/0...in-jackson.html Some good arguments why Edwin won't be traded b4 the deadline. Maybe they can run him through waivers in August and still work out something, but that's a lot less likely. Apparently not a big fan of the Hudson/Holmberg deal!!!
  24. I'm not sure we're going to get the Beckham who can "carry" a team, but ignite might be a better term. He definitely hasn't been hurting the White Sox recently, so that's some sort of progress. The defense has been better than expected. Still, it's all for naught unless Rios turns it around. He's just completely lost up there right now. Since we're stuck with him through 2014, I don't really see how we can drive down his value any more or "hurt him" psychologically if we tried DeAza and Rios in a platoon. The problem is you'd have to send down Lillibridge, and he's our defensive replacement and pinch-runner. Milledge probably can't play center well enough to contemplate him, and Jordan Danks wouldn't be much of a threat offensively, but just TRY something. They'll have to go back to Rios eventually. We're carrying one pitcher too many in our bullpen. They should send down Santiago and continue to see how he progresses as a starter in Birmingham.
  25. Ohman threw that pitch to V-Mart so poorly he fooled him. Dumb luck. Should have been crushed, got away with one.
