  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) Saw a rumor they're trying to acquire a SS and starting pitcher...maybe Hardy/Guthrie? Then they would play Peralta back at 3B again? Santiago's been 2B, with Raburn. Guthrie makes a lot of sense as insurance for Scherzer/Porcello/Penny.
  2. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:18 PM) No, but he's my whipping boy just like rios is many people here He misplayed another ball today (badly) that went off the top of the fence for a homer. Didn't even make a play on it, really. Not that our offense can score, anyway.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) How many double plays is that for Alexei over the last month? Might as well have him bat after Morel to make sure there's never anyone on base. Good idea. Send it to Ozzie's e-mail inbox.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) LOL. Nice at bat Lexi. You think Anderson is still getting the women? Is he still in baseball even? Hope he hasn't spent all of his money already. It would be pretty hard to blow $2-3 million (salaries and signing bonus) but I wouldn't put it past him. I'm sure Borchard invested his money more wisely. Comes from a very solid, down-to-earth farming family.
  5. White Sox Baseball: Finding New and Creative Ways to Erase Baserunners LOL at AJ throwing up his arms in the face of the relay throw.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Problem is the home run well has dried up (cept for Paulie of course) And the guys that don't think home run....can't ever walk or even hit a double these days. You can count Lillibridge as a charter member of the "homer happy" club, too. Vizquel...well, he hasn't changed in 20+ years.
  7. Most junior college teams would probably have a better chance against Chen...he pitches so slowly, he's under that typical fastball hitting zone of 86-96 that 98% of starters are at. This isn't the first time he's bedeviled a team. It won't be the last, I'm sure. Tip your caps, yada yada.
  8. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) his next start is in over a week why not also I think the Sox take 3 of 4 or sweep the Twins I am not sure why but maybe this is the wake up call The last time a terrible loss to the Royals really served as an actual wake-up call was a couple of times late in the 2005 season. One was a game we blew with a huge lead, another was a bad Buerhle start.
  9. I would have been happier had we just gotten no-hit. At least then there would have been some pressure on the coaching staff, some embarrassment and humiliation. POSTGAME CALL FIRE GREG WALKER....HOW CAN WE NOT FREAKING HIT BRUCE CHEN???????????????? Rongey, well.....Chen's 5-2, he's got an ERA close to 3.00, he's tough. That's FIVE, count 'em FIVE, major league teams he's beaten this season. He's a lot like Jamie Moyer or Tim Wakefield. He can throw hitters' timing off for weeks. Look what he did to Konerko, our best hitter and someone who's been totally locked in for 18 months. At one point, Bruce was the top-ranked pitching prospect in the game when he was coming up with the Braves.
  10. Konerko having what is undoubtedly his worst game of the season. Not good. He got himself out there. Overthinking, getting too impatient. Rare from Paulie the last couple of seasons.
  11. At least Dunn has SOME plate discipline. It should be 4-2 with three chances to tie it. Now a double play gets Chen out of the inning. Huge difference.
  12. Morel just swung at ball four and put all the pressure in the world on Dunn. As if he needed it. Jesus, Morel can't keep hitting 3rd. They really should have forced him to go after the 3-0 fastball.
  13. Twins tie the Rays at 5-5 on a Cuddyer Bear homer.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:45 PM) From everything I've heard, Rizzo wanted Viciedo AND Jackson for Dunn. And definitely wouldn't take Flowers and Jackson as a substitute.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) It wasnt puzzling. He was duped into thinking he could get Dunn for Jackson and then was surprised when he couldnt. And for those who cannot watch this game. Have you ever seen a baseball player take his first cuts in a slow pitch softball game? Thats exactly what we look like. Out on our front foot, rolling everything over. Garbage. Calling it "lift and pull" is insulting to those teams that execute that strategy successfully.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) Honest question: if you traded Jackson now, could you even get someone as good as Holmberg back? Still the most puzzling trade of the KW era. And we've once again reached the 100 pitch mark in the 5th or 6th inning of a Jackson start. Mike "Human Rain Delay" Hargrove's agent has to be in touch with Edwin.
  17. Of course, Jackson leads the league and maybe majors with wild pitches. If it's not him, it was Jose Contreras with that forkball. Yikes.
  18. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) I better keep quiet on this one or the site may blow up... If they trade Viciedo, I'm not going to watch or listen to another White Sox game until KW is gone.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) Hasn't been a lead bigger than 3 in a game we've played in for a hell of a long time. I feel awful for our starting pitchers where 3 runs allowed seems like they're giving us no chance to win. Where's Jose Paniagua when we need him? Other teams apparently have stopped throwing fastballs to Hosmer. Except the White Sox scouts never got that memo.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) Chen's ERA is down to 3.17 in 10 starts this season. If he keeps it under 4 this month, I wonder if the Royals could get a decent prospect for him at the deadline? We might as well just give them Viciedo so J4L can officially cross the line to Royals' fandom.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) .500 or .525 is the maximum upside. Losing this one, three of four or all four to Minnie and a 3-7 start the second half and we are finally done by the end of July. Still not convinced, Greg. I'm not sure we can really play ourselves out of hailing distance. It's the curse of the White Sox. Just when you want to throw out all expectations, they'll rally and you start to believe in them again. A sweep by the Twins and then 3 more offdays during the break to mull over 6 consecutive losses MIGHT MIGHT be enough to get something to change. But doubtful. Amazing the Twins COULD be 1 1/2 games ahead of us after Sunday's finale. Now that's unlikely, but not out of the realm of possibility. You know the Twins will bring it and we've been playing flat as hell. We were very, very lucky to get that balk Monday or it wasn't looking good in extras.
  22. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) they're hot -- they'll succeed They're even managing to overcome an imploding closer. You just know he'll go 1-2-3 against us, somehow.
  23. If the games continues without the White Sox scoring a run, would anyone argue there's been a worse White Sox game this season? I remember the last Sox game I could attend in person, it was early 2009 and Garcia started at home against the Twins and we lost 21 or 22-1 or something like that. That was entertaining because it was at least interesting to watch the offense from the other team.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) I respect those guys, but Morel is the next to last worst 3rd baseman, with regards to hitting, in all of baseball. Who's worse, Melvin Mora? Didn't he get waived or retire recently? Chris Snopek? Another fastball right down the middle, center cut for the youngster who's programmed to see ball, hit ball, swing hard.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) Hopefully this means Juan is getting some speed back. No, I think the Flying Molina Brothers might have a shot at a double steal with Chen's delivery and average pitch speed.
