  1. No, it just shows how athletic Dyson is, Greg. He scored on a pop fly to the shortstop into very short LF earlier in the week. If we pinch ran Usain Bolt for Beckham, we would have a 2-0 lead, too.
  2. And that's why Figgins didn't need to bunt last night, lol@AJ. I know, Floyd's horrible at holding runners, too. Worst possible combination for the Sox.
  3. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 7, 2011 -> 07:58 PM) Somebody tell me how what just happened is FN possible...............unreal. Well, Pierre can't drive the ball into the OF and Morel made a typical rookie baserunning mistake on a softly hit ball? Can we just close this thread now before a total meltdown occurs? I guess there's no longer enough fans who care to spend their Saturday on White Sox baseball to even get upset. Now even Konerko's getting into the act with the error. This is almost incredible.
  4. OF COURSE. WHITE SOX BASEBALL. Finding new ways not to score runners from 3rd with less than 2 outs.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 7, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) Estaban Loaiza had the most consistent season ever? Can Hawk ever make a statement where he doesn't engage in ridiculous hyperbole. Just like the White Sox teams. Consistent until late in the season or they're facing the Twins. Then they consistently lose.
  6. Getting a fortunate break there. Can we actually score the runner from 3rd? Beckham actually kicked his glove with the tip of his shoe as he was jumping over him.
  7. Hosmer with his first hit, a sharp groundball through the right side of the infield. You can cancel the post-game with B-Mac.
  8. LOL at the Knights starting Gaby Hernandez and his 9+ ERA. Wilkins with his 5th HR, 3 RBI blast.
  9. Undo the Danks/McCarthy trade!!!! Joking...sort of. McCarthy has really changed mechanically. He's still throwing 92-93 MPH, but his arm angle is a lot closer to 3/4's or 4/5th's and he's totally reversed himself from a flyball, high in the strikezone pitcher to one a lot more similar to Jon Garland.
  10. I think he only had 4 or 5 K's. I've seen him more dominant with his fastball moving a bit more and racking up massive K numbers with his curveball, but to have gun readings in the 100's in the 9th inning of a no-hitter is pretty unreal. He was more economical with his pitches and less concerned than when he came up with striking out everyone in sight. You could see him huffing and puffing, the adrenaline was really flowing.
  11. If Rios was so great, there would be ONE team in MLB who would take his contract on besides the White Sox. We'll quickly find out this year if that's the case, and soon. Because at least 18-20 teams would take Alexei as their starting SS.
  12. Even CarGo struggles sometimes. (Who's obviously in an elite category, not comparing him to Smoak/Wallace/Beckham/Gordon, etc.) Brandon McCarthy with a perfect game through 4 against the "powerful" Royals line-up. ERA all the way down to 2.80 on the season. Morel's back in the line-up, hitting 9th. Beckham 8th, Rios 7th and AJ 6th. Hopefully there's a better idea to shake up this team than switching AJ and Alex...doesn't seem too dramatic.
  13. QUOTE (High Mileage @ May 7, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) Assuming KC falls out of the race, we could have some interesting trade chips. Melky Cabrera, Bruce Chen, Jeff Francis, Wilson Betemit, Mike Aviles, Matt Treanor, etc. Jeff Francoeur has pretty much played into getting his option picked up already, so he'll be back I'm sure. Hopefully Kyle Davies can gain some value too, even a fringe prospect... Attendance of 30,690 (80.4% full) last night for Hosmers' debut, second most since Opening Day. Lorenzo Cain is getting it together in Omaha. Current line of .292/.393/.431... I'm not so certain that Moore will trade Cabrera. What's the compelling reason to do so, as he still has a favorable contract? The walk-up last night was 9,845, and I'd assume 75% of that was Hosmer-related, so he's already created $150,000 of additional revenue just by being recalled. The Cardinals might take a look at Betemit. Francis has SOME value because of his playoff experience with the Rockies, but not much. I really don't think you'll get much for either Treanor or Aviles, though. With Francoeur, the obvious concern is him cooling off and the Royals not trading him when it's possible. There's about a 25% chance he will continue to sustain his success, and a 75% chance he regresses to his "mean" for the last 2-3 years.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2011 -> 09:27 AM) You've got it reversed, the annual ritual is the Twins sending us into a tailspin, not t'other way round. Well, you can certainly argue in 2003 when they ended up sweeping us out of September (after we'd beaten them 2 games in a row in a four game series but struggled in the infamous Jose Paniagua game to close it out), in 2004 when Burke was run over by Hunter, or when Thome punked Thornton (as well as the big Jenks blown save when we were up 3 1/2 games after the AS Break), they've gone on to cruise through the season after big confrontations with the White Sox. I said it somewhere, whoever sweeps through the 2 game series has a decent chance to salvage their season. The other team will be dead.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) I really don't mind your b****ing about every White Sox prospect, but when you mention other teams' prospect you fail to mention they have struggled at times too. Brett Wallace was horrid last year. You were very wrong about Humber, and since you think Beckham sucks, you will be wrong about him. I do think we should wait until at least the ASB before we start crowing about Humber being a feather in KW's or Cooper's cap. It was a good "no risk" acquisition, but there's a long season to go for Beckham to redeem himself and Humber to falter. Unfortunately, Beckham didn't produce (along with 4-5 other guys) when he was most needed, and it's made the season almost irrelevant from here on out, except as "developmental" trial and error in setting up for 2012 and playing spoiler.
  16. Raul Ibanez and Jose Baustisa, anyone? LOL.
  17. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 7, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) This just isn't true. Rios had as good a year as Ramirez. Neither was close to Konerko in terms of importance. IF Alexei Ramirez is your best player there should be no surprise they are 11-22. Clearly you didn't watch every White Sox game in the second half last season. He never had an OPS of over 765 for any month besides May. I won't argue he (Rios) was probably our best player for the first two months, and Alexei was cold (the first three years of his career) simultaneously. Post All-Star game, he had a 684 OPS. That's when we really needed him to come through, same thing with late 2009. And his defense wasn't quite as good in the 2nd half, either. Better than 2011, but that's Brian Anderson territory for 3 months. When you consider their contracts, the pre-eminence of the SS position and the dearth of talent there across the majors, Ramirez was clearly better. I don't think anyone else on this board will argue that Rios was better than Ramirez in 2011.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 7, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) Nobody will be eating crow. He'll be given his just due like he was in '09 when he was producing. As of right now, he deserves nothing but criticism. We heard all the spring training fluff about how Beckham was "looking to rebound" or "looking to put 2010 behind him" and here we are in the same position with him. Then you look around baseball and you see guys like Justin Smoak, Brett Wallace, Starlin Casto, Ike Davis, and Andrew McCutchen for the most part get called up and consistently produce right off the bat and Beckham's struggles are magnified. Or "illuminated" as Ozzie would say it. Here's something that shows how far we are behind the Twins (since we're 6-24 against them head-to-head since mid-2009), and how far the Twins are behind the rest of the AL. Minnesota on the road against the AL East from the beginning of 2009. 2-11 at New York (White Sox are 5-15) 1-7 at Boston (including yesterday's victory) 5-10 at Toronto 6-9 at Tampa Bay 6-7 at Baltimore 22-44 Wondering how long we'll keep hearing about the 1983 White Sox, 01 A's, 05 Astros, 06 Twins and 09 Rockies...
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2011 -> 04:01 PM) Guy on 3rd base with one out and infield in results in the contact play about 99% of the time. Beckham did nothing wrong there. Funny thing is that it should be Ozzie's responsibility to tell Cox whether or not contact play is on. If Beckham missed a sign, then that reflects poorly on Ozzie due to Omar missing a sign the other day also. Guillen has already blamed Beckham and Beckham has assumed responsibility for "freezing" on the play, but it still reflects poorly on the communication between the coaches and coach/player. It's pretty shocking that someone like Omar Vizquel missed a sign. Pretty much everything that could go wrong (considering we're a team with theoretically TOO MUCH pitching legitimately yet mired in last place) has gone wrong. It's the reverse of 2005/2006 or the last week of 2008. Quentin/Ramirez/Danks/Floyd made the last 3-4 seasons more interesting and were a needed injection of talent, but they also put off the rebuilding process for KW until it's now become an unavoidable and foregone conclusion. Still waiting for the inevitably defiant "we don't rebuild, we reload" and "the other four teams in our division have only put themselves in a better position to compete with us" quotes from KW.
  20. He (Beckham) hasn't made an error? I'm also getting away from the idea that having Teahen at 3B would give us the most offense, but we have to bring up Viciedo and play him in LF or RF at some point. The season will probably be declared over by the time he's brought up, so the problem will be that all the numbers compiled by Santos, Beckham, Viciedo and Sale will be considered "suspect" and not under the pressure of a pennant race. (See Wells, Kip in a Pirates uniform). I just hope that at least 3 of those 4 play/pitch very well from here on out. It will give us something to feel optimistic about going forward, along with having some legit impact prospects to be excited about for the first time in 2-3 seasons.
  21. Ramirez made ONLY $1.1 million and Adrian Gonzalez was at $4.75 million. Granted, Gonzalez was the better player overall, but if you compared the Padre and Sox payrolls, I'd still side with the Ramirez contract being the most favorable.
  22. If you factor in offense AND defense last year, Ramirez was pretty clearly our best player last year. We've basically robbed him the first 3 years of his contract, he was undoubtedly the best value in all of baseball. Which All-Star caliber player had a more advantageous contract to their club (or didn't get a huge signing bonus from the draft)?
  23. Everyone knows the complete mess we're in. There's no way they're thinking about "building" around Humber. They simply want to see if he can put together one full season, first. That would be HUGE progress for him. Undoubtedly, Floyd and Sale are in their plans for the 2012 rotation, and of course Peavy if he can't be moved. Otherwise, they'll just collect his insurance payoffs and apply it to any losses incurred for 2011.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ May 7, 2011 -> 09:46 AM) I'm not saying start the firesale now, but once it's apparent they won't be getting to .500 or within 6-7 games by the break, then they should make whatever moves they can. I don't even know who they can move. They probably are capable of moving Jackson, Danks, and Floyd. Maybe Buehrle---is that 15 mil thing for 2012 still in effect? Quentin is movable. But they still have these gems on the books after this year: Dunn- 3 yrs/44 mil (not saying it's a bust contract yet) Peavy- 1 yr/21 mil (including the 2013 buyout) Rios- 3 yrs/38 mil AJ making 6 mil in 2012 A trade triggers an escalator paying $1M raise to $15M annually, plus a guaranteed fifth year paying $15M for 2012. That clause is no longer in effect for Buehrle. HOWEVER, as a 10 and 5 player, he can block any trade, so that makes things a lot more complicated.
  25. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 7, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) This has been known. Confirmed previously by an independent media source for print or just rumored?
