  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 6, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) The development of Gordon Beckham as a hitter has to be the biggest (although it is one of many) indictments of Walker's lack of ability as a hitting coach. If they can spend $3.8 million on Manny Ramirez and no money on signing Dominicans and Venezuelans, you'd think they could hire Hrniak or someone similar to work with Beckham specifically since the relationship with Walker doesn't seem to be leading to any positive results.
  2. Well, at least we didn't get punk'd by the worst player in baseball the last 7 months. Here comes the 2nd worst in Bradley.
  3. Tip your caps, boys. Did Harrelson even bother to make this trip? He might have an aneurysm before it's over, probably in Oakland.
  4. Just announced. The White Sox signed Greg Walker to a two-year contract extension through the 2013 season. Btw, thanks for turning Gordon Beckham into Joe Crede without the defensive resume.
  5. I feel like I'm watching those old Faces of Death videos. Morbid curiosity, waiting for something to happen or change with this season, somehow. You don't want to watch, but you almost feel compelled to see if it can actually get any worse.
  6. The dreaded leadoff walk. Didn't want to challenge him with another fastball. Can't blame him, with how well Smoak's been going. Konerko with the range of the Venus de Milo. Should have been a DP, but nice calm recovery by Beckham.
  7. Cue Corpseball. We might have the worst minor league system in baseball and I'm still more excited by Charlotte's game tonight than ours in Seattle. Ugh.
  8. Betancourt breaks it up. So much for that. Weird. Gallardo now is returning the favor to the Cardinals with a no-hitter through 7. Dead. But Verlander's is still alive going into the bottom of the 9th in TOR. http://ilemi.me/23520/1/Watch-Detroit-Tige...onto-Blue-Jays/ Arencibia got a walk (he battled his butt off) but it was erased by a double play ball so he's still only faced 24 hitters through 8. Verlander hit 101 and 100 a number of times in that inning on their gun. In the high 90's for pitch count. He does it, strikes out Rajai Davis. Only one walk in the game. Second career no-hitter already.
  9. I'd go with Konerko and Santos as the bookends with Lillibridge diving in NY in the middle. Konerko, fine. Paul Konerko, it's like we are informing people who don't know much about baseball who one of our best players is...
  10. Mitchell's going to be given a ton of time to develop now. They might have to send him down to KANNY, but there's not going to be a rush to get him to the majors to replace Pierre as might have happened had he never been injured. He'll be fine. Dayan receives the INTENTIONAL WALK. Ha, ha. Bruney on to close the 8-7 Knights' lead. Gallagher with the go-ahead single to drive in Escobar after a sac bunt by De Aza to put him in scoring position.
  11. Gio Gonzalez just blazed a 96 MPH fastball on the black to get Hosmer. Started him out with two unhittable curves. 2 BB's and a K so far for Hosmer.
  12. Cliff Lee has 16 K's through 7 IP and is losing. Crazy. Lowe just lost his no-hitter to Victorino in the 7th. Braves up 3-0.
  13. One thing's for certain, we heated up the Twins' season. And you'll never find a quote from me saying anything positive about Teahen. Other than the fact that we have no choice but to play him now if we want some offensive POTENTIALITY in the line-up.
  14. With the way Wilson Betemit has gone the last 2 years, KW looks doubly stupid for discarding him for Teahen. Eventually he'll be replaced by Moustakas, but the guy has been raking and playing better D than we saw in his brief time with us.
  15. Viciedo now 3 for 3 with a double. En fuego. .306/4/21/824. I was just thinking it wouldn't hurt to convert Escobar to 2B and send Beckham down if he's still not hitting in two weeks. Probably couldn't happen in mid-season, but that would be a nifty double play combination if Escobar could hit his weight.
  16. http://ilemi.me/23396/1/Watch-Oakland-Athl...as-City-Royals/ For anyone who would like to see Hosmer's debut. Alex Gordon with his 3rd homer into the jetstream, oppo, against Gio. Crazy gun has Gio at 93-97 MPH.
  17. And the counter-argument is that Danks would thrive pitching for an offense that actually supported him and gave him more confidence that he wouldn't have to be out there on eggshells worrying about giving up 1 or 2 runs.
  18. Fun game to follow in KC. Hosmer's already had his first press conference. Former Sox prospects Gio and Sweeney (.343 avg) in action. Stupid Twins are already up 4-1 on Wakefield. Big blow a two run single by Denard Span with two outs after Butter and Casilla both K'ed with the bases loaded. Francona already was run when Wakefield tried the 'ol Jack McDowell fake to 3rd, throw back to first move and got called for a balk, plating another run.
  19. Viciedo already 2 for 2 with his 21st RBI, up to .299 and his season high water mark. Hynick sucks. De Aza and McPherson continue to play well. Milledge in danger of being out of baseball soon altogether. Interestingly, Dayan, Flowers and Danks all have over an 800 OPS now. Look out below, Jordan Danks with his 5th homer, a 3 run blow to tie the game at 5-5 after 4. Our old friend Timo Perez with the Mud Hens, hitting a crisp .349 with 3 HR's and 17 RBI's.
  20. The Royals, on paper, have one of the worst rotations in baseball. 2-3 months from now, you might see Hochevar, Montgomery, Crow, D. Duffy and Chen/O'Sullivan. Davies and Jeff Francis are definitely in danger of being released/demoted, probably Davies.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 6, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) Wow, just heard. I guess KC really feels like they have a shot this year. I just assumed they were going to play the service time card. The numbers this kid has put up in his last 600 or so PAs have been staggering. http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/blog/roto_...=fantasy-wp1991 The Twins are not messing around. They're starting top prospect Ben Revere in LF at Fenway and also recalled Trevor Plouffe (former high draft pick) to play SS even though Gardy's never been a firm believer in him. The injury-riddled Minnesota Twins recalled shortstop Trevor Plouffe and center fielder Ben Revere from the Rochester Red Wings today. They take the place of Twins designated hitter Jim Thome (strained left oblique) and outfielder Jason Repko (left quad soreness), who were placed on the disabled list. Plouffe was hitting .282 with a team-high six home runs and 13 RBI, while Revere was batting .293 with 0 homers and 5 RBI. The Red Wings will receive infielder Ray Chang from Double-A New Britain. He's hitting .270 with 1 homer and 22 RBI. The Twins have promoted an astounding nine different Red Wings in the past month.
  22. So Kuhn=CJ Retherford before he tanked offensively
  23. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 6, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) Yesterday, this is what I would have done. To Charlotte: Morel, Beckham Released or traded: Pierre Recalled: Viciedo, McPherson (backup to 3b), Peavy. Let Vizquel and Lillibridge platoon at 2b, hit leadoff. Quentin to LF. Viciedo to RF. Trade: Edwin Jackson; so that Jake Peavy could take his spot. In a heartbeat, if the Yankees called us about Jackson, I would consider a trade. Maybe getting one of their stud catching prospects, if that's a possibility. AJ and Jackson to NYY for ????? *Sigh* I know I'm stating this off the top of my head and ranting, but oh well. At least try to change it up somehow. If we're to bring up McPherson, it's for POSSIBLE offensive output. In any scenario, McPherson or Teahen should play close to everyday. They're not going to eat Mark's contract yet, and they aren't going to designate Lilli or Vizquel for assignment. Realistically, they should try to trade Vizquel to a contending team so he has the opportunity to go to the playoffs before he retires. I don't think we'd dare switch Quentin to LF defensively in the middle of the season, he's playing much better this season than last IMO in RF. We can't trade Jackson at his low point (one good start after 3 bad/shaky ones) and if Peavy goes back on the DL, we've created yet another problem. You dangle Buehrle, Jackson and Danks soon to see what's out there, and hold on to see what develops in June and July. Undoubtedly, their returns will go up as more starters are injured or non-perform for contenders like the Yanks. Does anyone actually believe Garcia and Colon will end up lasting the whole year? The already have Martin and Posada is their DH. They would have little interest in adding AJ, plus they have catching prospects aplenty.
