  1. I don't think it's a good idea to make Castro the everyday catcher next year, either. Coming into today, we'd given up 127 steals, the Indians only 67....so 129 now. If he wouldn't have held onto that ball so long on the pitchout against Nix, Ramirez wouldn't have ended up having to block the base and getting spiked. Would be nice to have those two runs our defense gave away back about right now.
  2. One game under against BALT One game over against KC Three games under against CLE -3 against the three worst AL teams, with the exception of the Mariners, we should be 9-1 instead of 8-2 against them except for Jenks
  3. What's the report on Garcia? Either he hurt his arm/shoulder (his FB was 83-87 today when he was at 90 and 91 against the Yankees on Friday) or he hurt a knee/ankle akwardly trying to field the squibber off the bat of Nix.
  4. Vizquel was bunting on his own for a base hit. This just in, we gave this game away and we have nobody to replace Garcia in the rotation.
  5. Is Beckham available to pinch-hit or is it going to be Friday/Saturday in Boston before we see him again?
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) I haven't heard one thing about Peavy not pitching. Peavy is supposed to begin throwing shortly and is expected to be on track to be starting spring training games. That could obviously all get pushed back, but from what has been reported Peavy's recovery has been fine thus far. In terms of Edwin, the good news is, he'll get an extra days rest since we have Thursday off. If Garcia for some reason got blasted his next two starts, I wonder if they'd consider going back to the 4 man rotation like they did at the end of 2008? At that point, there'd be about 25 games remaining...but I just don't see them taking the risk with Floyd, Jackson and Danks of putting that much wear and tear on their arms. We already saw the aftereffects in the 2006 and 2009 seasons. And, even if they did make the post-season, the odds of being able to successfully sustain those pitchers throughout the postseason would be pretty low.
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 09:39 AM) Opinion, especially considering the way he was pitching up until the trade, and the instant boost that Dunn would give this offense. Once again, KW is the GM, this is his trade, that is fine, I obviously dont have any say in the matter. I just see this trade coming back to haunt us, as soon as justa few months when the offseason starts and we cry poor and have to sit through another bulls*** player starting. But how many hitters recently have come from the NL and just started raking right away in the AL without any type of transition period?
  8. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 08:55 AM) At his age and health, I would only offer a one year deal, filled with incentives, and possibly a player option if he wins us a championship (like he was the MVP the rest of the way, and clicked with the team chemistry wise). The thing is, when the team isnt winning and he isnt playing for a contract, that is when trouble starts because the little things he does then get blown up. Something like $5-7.5 million basic contract level, $5 million for making the All-Star team, $5 million if the White Sox made the playoffs...I just don't think Manny, Boras or the player's union would approve of those types of deals, always preferring the guaranteed money. Or simply $5 million for hitting 30 homers or 100 RBI's, or $1 million for every 10 RBI's, something like that...
  9. And, in the end, if the finances aren't nearly the issue KW and JR always make them out to be, the other 75% of the complaining about this trade evaporates as a reason for not liking it, IF Jackson continues to perform like one of the top starters in the AL (while pitching in the heat of a pennant race in the AL, not for one of the worst teams in baseball in the pitcher-friendly NL West). (Of course, the argument will be why wasn't E-Jackson pitching better for AZ under similar conditions? Well, you can ask Don Cooper and JAX for the answer on that one? And maybe, just maybe, there's a relationship that Hudson's new pitching coach has with Daniel that couldn't be established in Chicago, but I honestly think Cooper believed Jackson's upside was simply higher and that the "fix" was a relatively simple one, which it has proven to be so far).
  10. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 12:34 AM) I guess I owe the man an apology. He keeps pitching like this and we should be happy to give him 8 mil next year. Well, it's all relative. Look at how much we gave Garland, Contreras and Javy to pitch for us.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) Tron it the only movie coming out the rest of the year I would pay the surcharge for because it was actually filmed in 3D and the visuals look amazing. Here in Thailand, it's actually DOUBLE charge for 3D, it goes from 100-120 baht to 200-240 ($3.25-$3.75 to $6.50-$8.00). In China, it's about 90 RMB for Clash of the Titans, Alice in Wonderland, How To Train Your Dragon....with 6.8 RMB to the USD, that's $13.25 in a country where the average yearly salary is $3,500 USD I will take one thing back....HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON WAS EXCELLENT 1) Avatar 2) How To Train Your Dragon 3) MAYBE Step Up 3, if the theatre has a really good sound system

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) Can I ask what's the difference between people killing a dolphin for food and a pig for food? 1) Dolphins are seen as "cleaner" animals because of their water habit, and the friendliest/most intelligent because of their performances at places like SEA WORLD 2) The Miami Dolphins, there's no professional or collegiate team with the moniker "PIGS" I am sure, anywhere in the world 3) Dolphins are beautiful to watch in their natural habit, and among the fastest and most streamlined/aerodynamic animals 4) There are no world religions that consider eating dolphin to be unclean or unkosher...kind of a reverse argument on its face, but it supports the overall point, since nobody around the world really loves to eat dolphin in the first place unless there's no choice 5) People have been conditioned to eating pig meat for centuries

You have to remember that Cameron was the director on Piranha 2, it was his first project and he was eventually pulled from it by the Italian producer for going over budget because he wanted it to be as good as possible despite the limited budget. Interestingly, John Sayles and Joe Dante have also been involved with that franchise. Personally, I think Cameron's a prick, but he has a point. The 3-D added almost nothing to that movie...and the only reason critics like it so much is that it's become HIP/COOL to say you like something so egregiously bad and campy that to eviscerate it with a scathing review would seem almost cruel. With the internet, fewer and fewer people are listening to the star critics...look at how many loved Scott Pilgrim, and that movie mightily struggled to find an audience (also bad marketing, a very limited niche demographic, Cera's done the same character repeatedly, etc.) I really thought it was pretty atrocious, and not in a funny way like say PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE. I expected it to be funny, but I found myself rarely laughing...and the naked boobs, anyone can find on the internet if they look hard enough. The whole 3D thing has started to run its course...I can't think of any movies since AVATAR that 3-D really enhanced the experience to make it worth the surcharge. Maybe STEP UP 3...and some of the animation movies like DESPICABLE ME or TOY STORY 3. I could list about 10 movies that have come out in 3D that weren't worth the glasses, where the movie was retrofitted or 3D added later to take advantage of potential profits. Now, maybe maybe RESIDENT EVIL has a chance to be worth it, as it was actually filmed in a way that 3D glasses would enhance the viewing experience, from watching the preview with 3D glasses on and from everything I've read.
  14. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) He had a fantastic first half for Detroit last year. His success hasn't come out of nowhere. He must have a sign on his back that says "I like throwing too many pitches." Leyland had him throw too much (thus the second-half slide), then he threw 150 pitches in his no-hitter, now Ozzie (who is usually excellent on managing pitch counts) has him throw 130. Who do you go to there in the bottom of the 9th? Jenks? Pena? Linebrink? You're sure? Jackson has proven he can extend himself while pitching in Detroit and especially with the no-hitter. I think 130 was the magic number where Ozzie wasn't going to go over it, he was just hoping that he wouldn't have to pull him for the Rocky Jenks Picture Show.
  15. Are we even sure that Ramirez will play? From the looks of it, Friday's game will be rained out, meaning a DH Saturday against the Red Sox. That's good news for Thornton and Beckham (both probably wouldn't have been able to play Friday, Beckham, let's say 50/50), so it seems Ramirez really has to get some at-bats tomorrow before he goes into that media firestorm.
  16. Plus we're paying him something like $120,000 per game...kind of silly that he didn't let him hit in Lillibridge's turn. As it played out, another insurance run there from a homer would have been nice. I know he hit one the night before, but I think most pitchers in baseball would prefer to face Lillibridge over Ramirez there. I think with our current bullpen, no lead of less than 6 is safe.
  17. Wild pitches, walks, 2 hit batters, the Tigers absolutely gave that game away. And they had two chances to score late and couldn't come up with a key hit to tie it (including Cabrera), whereas the Twins managed to get a two out hit. That's the difference. When you consider the White Sox are 5-10 versus Minnesota and the Tigers have lost 6/7 in Minnesota alone (from listening to their announcers, the Tigers feel even MORE jinxed than the Sox playing up there, and that's really saying something), it's not much of a surprise who's leading the division, Morneau or not. We might lead the AL in hitting with RISP, but it's WHEN you do it, as Harrelson always says.
  18. Jesus Christ. Well, if nothing else, the White Sox are giving us reasons to care about baseball again in the final 30 games.
  19. How can he be out there? You're joking.
  20. Finally Guillen did something intelligent pinch-running for Kotsay. Good throw would have had Lillibridge at home....now 1/9 with RISP. Teahen quietly batting .342 over the last month.
  21. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicagowhite-sox/p...at-fork-in-road Just saw this article about the Ramirez press conference...just wow. I feel like we're selling our soul to the devil, and it's giving us at best a 25% chance to catch the Twins. 0/8 with RISP tonight. Fail.
  22. Carlos looking completely lost up at the plate now...just not right mechanically. HOW ARE THE WHITE SOX LEADING THE AL WITH RISP at .285?????
  23. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 07:36 PM) we did that last night and he put it in the stands But he doesn't do that to a 97-98 MPH fastball. He can get the head of the bat out on an 87 MPH pitch, but not Jackson. Who the hell is CASPER Wells? What kind of name is that for a baseball player?
  24. Everything to Nix, bust him inside.
  25. Great throw there AJ. Can we make one single play tonight?
