White Sox w/ 10 of top 79 fWAR pitchers

Thorpe still has a lot to prove with his health and fastball command when behind in the count. Don’t see Schultz and Smith getting pushed up super fast without any offense to support them. That miss timing of the roster is what led to Rodon leaving when he was just hitting his stride as a Sox…or JR’s pocketbook. But Schultz has been babied along for a reason. -
Probably behind the recall of Moncada and having him sit on the bench instead of playing down the stretch for $29 million, more than he lost on John Danks’ entire contract alone if you figure in insurance reimbursement and performance on the front half of the deal.
-
Someone will eventually fix him and he’ll get his own thread. He’s only one year off a great healthy season. He’s also gotta go from the Bears/Sox to baseball version of Tomlin like Fields, lol. To go from that year to injury frustration and retirement talk in just one season is worse than the downfall of Tim Anderson from top hitter in the AL to out of the game entirely.

Jose Bautista? Ortiz? Manny Ramirez? Machado? Miguel Cabrera? Too much of a generalization. if you listed the 10-15 most dynamic game changing players in the sport today, Julio Rodriguez, Acuna, Elly de la Cruz, Tatis, ONeil Cruz, Jose Ramirez, Lindor would all have to be considered. Just off the top of my head. Get 2-3 together on your team and run with it. Maybe even Ketel Marte. unfortunately Moncada and Robert simply didn’t gel together and Eloy was never going to be that fast twitch athlete with 30-30 potential

Sign someone from LA’s or SD’s front office who was part of drafting or signing Xavier Edwards, CJ Abrams, Jackson Merrill and acquiring Kim Tatis Cronenworth Profar Machado…Bogaerts the one clear miss so far or underachiever. Or simply overrated in Boston. Heck, even Donovan Solano can play everywhere. Lad the exact same philosophy with Betts Lux Taylor k*** Gonzalez Vargas (lol). Guys who can legitimately play 2-3 positions and run/take extra bases like Baltimore does, or the Tigers now. Anyway, now 9 original SS’s who can play nearly anywhere on the diamond…like Merrill Tatis and Profar converted to the OF now. Throw in James Wood as well on that list. White Sox haven't had a player like that since Tim Anderson or Alexei Ramirez with that brand of versatility and athleticism. Fwiw Madrigal Vaughn Sheets Burger all limited tools guys best at non premium positions of C SS 2B CF.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Major_League_Baseball_draft 5/8 picks already All Stars…Vaughn over Greene is just killing us. With Riley Greene you can build around Robert and him and have the makings of a great outfield. And he’s most certainly NOT on Detroit’s roster as well. Then if we were one pick earlier, Bohm over Madrigal. Of course it works in reverse, Kolek and Aiken were busts and Rodon was the one to make it too late to generational wealth for his family.

I was just going by an earlier poster who was a bit confused and had him around just three more years (but extended through arb years) vs. five. I guess four is probably the only realistic compromise here. Danks destroyed the five year forever. Just took a single player, whereas LAD go through handfuls per roster on the pitching side like Glasnow Matsumoto etc. After Clevinger, maybe Urias is next Sox target (90% joking)…the only way to make up a significant talent deficit is guys like AJ Everett Dye coming out of controversy or injury or worn out welcomes like DAngelo Jimenez or CJ Abrams or even Oscar Colas for another team or acquire on the cheap. Jim Thome injured and replaced by Howard, etc. Assuming Alex Rios’ deal…Loiaza Contreras Jenks etc. Have to think outside the box again. And that requires spending money Getz probably doesn’t have in all likelihood. Not at this point in time, and after watching Hahn burn through hundreds of millions on vets and the those lousy early extensions.
-
That requires someone knowing talent. They lucked into Tatis because of the father pushing him to the Sox, just like Elijah. They won Robert largely because of Abreu and that STL wasn’t perceived as a great place for black/Latin players, perhaps more racism or discrimination bordering on the near South (although to this day McGee Pendleton Ozzie three of the most popular ex Cards, Brock as well). Won Abreu because only Colorado and Sox needed a 1B. Alexei Ramirez was probably the best ever Sox scouting projection from limited utility player to RoY type talent. Ofc Eloy Jimenez was very highly ranked as well as he entered the Cubs’ system…still not sure who the talent guru is on the Latin American side, most likely it will be Keller making signing decisions, though.

To give up 5 for 32 seems a bit insane…

John Henry in Boston after all the WS titles....excuse not to spend, need a combo of farm system and trades/intl/FA.
-
Jeffers the poster child for everything that went wrong down the stretch. Royce Lewis went into a huge skid too. Mariners and Twins both choked. Braves just had too many injuries to overcome....but they could still make it if KC relaxes now.
-
sure...but nobody will buy a thing unless they swept Detroit or at least 2/3 then they might keep Sizemore but they can't hype a team without Crochet and Robert that will lose 115-120 again not unless Montgomery destroyed the AFL and they decided to start the season with him and that's still going to mean season ticket sales leaning in the direction of 1.15 million from 1.35 maybe even 1.1

That’s going to be the argument in 2026 when Schulz or Smith gets hurt. Then they will start yet another rebuild because only one really high caliber pitcher? Perpetual rebuilding. Three year extension plus two arb years would be five total years of control though. They would have to set reasonable numbers to cover arb, guaranteeing those first two years as well. Five year deal essentially.

Dayton Moore would told Getz Sox too anti-Christian lol...purging Nicky Two Strikes. -
Lots of talk out of Minnesota that Luke K. is going to be their starting 1B next year while he recovers from TJ like Harper did. Raving about his athletic ability, preparation, game/situational awareness. Talking about what to do with Santana Kiriloff Julien etc. Jeffers went from All Star first half to second half collapse. At any rate...would have been cheaper and likely much better offensive replacement for Vaughn. And eventually 2B.

More Sox ties with Camp Cora/Ozzie DETROIT -- The Tigers had just started a West Coast trip in Seattle in August, seven games under .500 after losing seven of nine on a homestand, when third-base coach Joey Cora talked with hitters about baserunning. How long it lasted depends on who you ask. “It was, like, five or 10 seconds,” Matt Vierling said. “Joey made a comment about it, got on us a little bit.” However long it lasted, it was fitting with Cora’s personality, and it resonated. “It was an intense meeting, to say the least,” Parker Meadows said, a sentiment that Justyn-Henry Malloy seconded. “In that particular meeting, it was just reminding guys about a couple different things,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “When you play in Seattle, it’s very similar to Comerica [Park], where it’s big, and if we get [outfielders] going side to side, we need to take extra bases. We were also facing one of the best pitching staffs in baseball, so we were trying to instill preparedness: We’ve got to take advantage of every 90 [feet] against this type of team.” From there, Vierling said, the Tigers took a few more chances. Those became highlights in pregame meetings, and the mentality spread. What began as a reminder is now a mindset, with players in the dugout going crazy whenever a teammate takes an extra base on a risky play. It has fueled the Tigers’ late-season charge into the American League Wild Card race, and it helped the Tigers win a game Thursday that they seemed headed for defeat to the Rays. mlb.com -

All Star announcement or Ramirez's quite pointed comments about Anderson? -
Still not even certain they were going to get any team's top prospect packages as desired from LAD Baltimore...Philly ATL StL, at least two other teams.

Half of baseball will be open to an extension if he can stay healthy before a possible trade. And it would increase franchise value to have a young star pitcher with Schultz and Smith right behind. Unfortunately Jerry is so risk adverse he will only see possibilities for injury, instead of a Cy Young in the prime of his young career.
