Fukudome complains to Japanese press about sitting
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
UGH. That's not a direct quote in Japanese, it's a "characterization" or summary of what was said translated in his own words into English. Two entirely different things. -

Now I'm trying to find out EXACTLY what he said...because we just have a "characterization" now from Japanese into English. And Gonzales got it wrong, it's the KYODO NEWS. Not Kyode. -
Fukudome complains to Japanese press about sitting

So Mark Gonzales' was pointing out the fact that Fukudome not playing over Viciedo has something to do with our team's recent poor play? He was trying to tie the two in together, so I'm not sure how he's NOT trying to create controversy himself. By the way, we have the worst or most unproductive bench in baseball, shouldn't we be actively trying to improve it? -
Fukudome complains to Japanese press about sitting
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So if it's not a story, then I guess every player gives quotes to the press talking about their lack of playing time and wishing that they could play more, correct? I mean...have we seen Lillibridge or Flowers say something like that? Perhaps you're right. I don't speak Japanese so I can't read the original quotes. I'm just wondering why a Chicago sportswriter would consider it important to include in a game story. It might have been just a "general" question like, "How's the season going so far?" and the respnse was something along the lines of "It's going fine, but I don't feel that I've been able to contribute much yet," and somehow that was turned into the news blip that ended up in the story. Do we have anyone who reads or speaks Japanese who can find out EXACTLY what he said in native language? -
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...,0,123270.story Just what the Sox need, another mini-controversy in the middle of our 4-11 stretch. I can't believe that KW signed him with the idea he was going to give him 300+ AB's. At some point, they might need to waive him and use a Danks or Golson as the 4th outfielder (depending on what happens with Lillibridge/Morel at 3B). Or bring up Dan Johnson, who has been hitting really well in Charlotte. Or just get rid of Escobar. By the way, Brad Penny's now available. Managed to make it through one start in Japan. http://mlb.sbnation.com/2012/5/8/3007371/b...apan-mlb-offers Somehow, I have a feeling this will be KW's next brilliant move. Apparently Penny already has some offers from major league teams to come back. According to team officials, Penny was "unable to adapt well to baseball in Japan, [and he] strongly desired to leave." Now, though, there might be a chance for the 33-year-old Penny to return to MLB, says Buster Olney: Brad Penny has offers to be a starter and offers to be a reliever from MLB teams. Will choose soon. There are many teams that have issues in both their rotation and bullpen. If Penny is healthy again, he might be able to help out, and probably wouldn't cost too much.

The Official Deja-Voodoo Torture-Sox thread

Hibbard surprised us all today. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 8, 2012 -> 09:52 PM) As I said earlier, the Rangers are going to have a DECISION to make. Josh Hamilton is simply the best all-around player in the AL when he's on the field. And was that a f***ing trade or what? Josh Hamilton for Edison Volquez? lmao. Wow. Jon Daniels for the win. The Carlos Beltran signing is looking like by far the best of the off-season. Just like the Berkman move the previous offscreen which was totally under the radar. Quite a few had already given up on his career, at least based on the way he was handling playing for the Yankees. http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/stats/_/id/6...edinson-volquez He had that great 2008 season with Cincy back when he was EDISON, but he's never pitched over 108 innings in a season since then and has always been labelled a trouble-maker and enigmatic bundle of unrealized talent.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 8, 2012 -> 09:06 PM) De Aza has a .360 OBP, that's very respectable. The rest is clearly true, though. Also, Paulie's really the one propping us up with his .425 OBP. He's supposed to be the one driving in the runs, though. AJ's having a great season and all, but if we really had a masher behind Paulie...man.... Hadn't realized DeAza had gotten it back up to that point. Maybe more consumed with his splits against LHP, forgetting all the other good things he does. But some of his defensive misplays have overshadowed how much of an offensive upgrade he's been over Pierre.

http://www.kansascity.com/2012/05/08/36010...s-that-hes.html On rumors that the Glass family is now interested in selling the Royals. Not exactly great PR for a season in which they're 9-19 and hosting the MLB All-Star Game. Well, it's understandable with all the money from the Dodgers' sale...that they're at least kicking the tires, but KC's media rights are tiny, even compared to Cincy, for example.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 8, 2012 -> 09:45 PM) Best closing prospect in baseball. Our 6th/7th/8th starter closes (tries too). Robin, stop it. Tries "also/too" (Santiago) or tries to close but can't, lol?

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 8, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) Wilkins is back. 3/4, 1 HR, 2B, 2 RBI. OPS back over .700 Can he play 3B?
-
Royals with a pretty surprising comeback to tie the game in the bottom of the 8th again Bard and Albers. 4-4, KC threatening to take the lead and hopefully turn over to Broxton for the save. Sox killer Billy Butler just homered to put the Royals up 6-4 heading to the top of the 9th at Kauffman. Hosmer at a startling .183 with 5 homers and 16 RBI's. Valentine REALLY micromanages that bullpen. God, he's like Scioscia or LaRussa.
-
Pujols 0/4 with four groundouts, now at .190.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 8, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) Bottom third of the order was 0-19 with a walk today. I think you mean 0/14 (including Fukudome).

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 8, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) I thought Peavy, Rios, and Dunn bouncing back would give the Sox a shot at contending as well. Bullpen issues have been a problem like you've mentioned. But I think the biggest problem is just that the team OBP is awful, and the young players have just been so bad. Now, I am with you that they need to be playing the majority of the time still, but even if the overpriced guys perform, the White Sox just are not good enough with the number of bad players on the roster. And it would be REALLY atrocious (team OBP) if not for Dunn's mid-20's walk total. Beckham, Viciedo and Morel are killing us there, as well as Ramirez and Rios/DeAza aren't great either. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/b...ePct/order/true Barely holding onto 10th place in the AL in OBP. Detroit's not much better, 9th at .310. Indians all the way up at .339 and in the top 3-4.

Hudson throws of mound MLB.com reports Diamondbacks pitcher Daniel Hudson threw off the mound on Tuesday, his first time doing so since landing on the 15-day disabled list due to a shoulder impingement. He threw 30 pitches and mixed in a few breaking balls. "It felt good," Hudson said. "They just told me to stop, but I wanted to keep going. One more step closer. I feel like I could be out there tomorrow, but it's a slow process. I want to make sure everything is right." Looks like he is tentatively set to return to the mound at the end of May. Bump Thread, insert Chris Sale as one of the closing options. Thought this one deserved to be back for the inevitable Sale/Reed/Thornton/Santiago discussion which will ensue.
-
Mitchell 0 for 3, 2 k's and 3 LOB. Down to .290 and trending downwards. Definitely was due to fall off, we'll see how he responds and makes adjustments. Pedro Hernandez pitching another good game. Seems he's sneaking up on the radar as one of the next man in starter candidates when/if Stults loses the position. Between Hernandez and Axelrod. Ooops. Phegley 0/4 now, down to .333
-
Great job Addison. Haven't seen a 1-2-3 save in weeks. Crisis averted for now. Now things have sort of stabilized for the moment. Except for the bullpen/closer's role/Sale/Reed.
-
Now please name Reed the closer, figure out what to do with Sale, Santiago to AAA and Thornton dealt to the highest bidder.
-
Great start, key out always the first of the inning in a closing situation (Quotes Hawk/Stone Pony)
-
Josh Hamilton just added another $10-20 million to his next contract negotiation.
-
Cabrera, Santana and Duncan. Wouldn't be surprised to see Hafner pop up, either.
-
Morel, off to Charlotte with thee after this one. He's reached the point of no return with his slump.
