QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:35 PM) Why would it be so gutsy. He won 17 games last year with an ERA under 4 in the AL. Unless you are dying to see Lance Broadway get Felix Diazed every 5th day I would rather see if Floyd is salvageable. 3/5s of our rotation is a mess right now and the team isnt hitting at all. I wonder if KW was ever offered Edwin Jackson? In retrospect, that would have been the best possible move. Matt Joyce was just a throw-in. Everyone was questioning whether he could improve his peripherals, but he's been as good this year as Floyd was last year early on.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) Everyone on this board says it's a great deal. Why wouldn't The Nats or Pirates take a chance considering how hard it is to get Free agents to sign with them? The Nats, maybe. The Pirates, no way, not in this economy... If his ERA climbs to Contreras territory (8+), it would be a REALLY gutsy move for another GM...maybe the Yankees would take a shot, too. Dodgers or Angels other possibilities.

QUOTE (whitesoxmanager @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) when are we going to learn to just BET against this team? we could all retire.. That would be dangerous with the Indians, because they always kick in into gear when they're pretty much dead and buried. Thome is listening to SoxTalk advice to morph into a Lillibridge/Fields opposite-field singles hitter.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:21 PM) Why exactly was Getz positioned so deep towards 1st with a right hander up. Between the pitch calling and some of the defensive positioning you wonder what the hell is going on. Probably Floyd completely missed his location. I don't think they'll bring in Gobble for Martinez (or Choo), but they might wish they had in 5 minutes.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) and why has it been for the last three years that this team has struggled at the plate and yet he's only felt the heat once? 2007=injuries 2008=we had great starting pitching, and then offense kicked in after TB/TOR series 2009=it was revealed on Wikipedia that Walker had a 2nd (in addition to Zapruder) secret recording of the Grassy Knoll on November 22nd, 1963 and conclusive documentation that KW was a "silent" investor in Wilder's gay dance club "Burn" in metro Phoenix

QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) I wish I knew what Greg Walker would have to do to get fired. This team doesn't even hit the ball hard. Hell, we've had only a handful of "Stretch" calls this year. Harrelson did get one in yesterday afternoon...I was waiting for a moment of humor when the ball didn't even make it to the warning track.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) i would have rather seen a hit and run attempt rather than a straight steal Because Lillibridge has already gotten 3 or 4 runners thrown out in that situation by swinging and missing on hit-and-runs, most of the runners embarassingly being out by 15-20 feet. I think it has been twice with Anderson, once with Pods and once with Fields, at least.

Floyd=Contreras Very much confidence, momentum-based pitchers...although Gavin won some games in the 2nd half to stop losing streaks without his best stuff, especially coming down the stretch. We know what Contreras accomplished when he believed in his stuff (of course, he has a nastier FB and forkball then). Fields down to a 687 OPS compared to 740+ OPS for career...okay, a hit. That'll work!

Here we go again...also a reminder, White Sox outfielders, please hit the cut-off man in the air instead of shorthopping Getz every time. It's either that, or an overthrow. We need to work on pretty much every aspect of baseball...longest ST in history, and we're still making so many silly mistakes on a daily basis.

Hopefully Santos Rodriguez can be the next Boone Logan, but with better mental faculties is "man up" than Logan or Marte.

Are you Scott Boras? This sounds like a combination of Tom Cruise's character in Tropic Thunder and Boras, with a little Jerry Maguire thrown in for good measure.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will fix him.

I love how the Sun Times editor writes blaring headline "Guillen rips Sox" when the opposite was really the case, he seemed, from all accounts, somewhere between resigned and crying, certainly frustrated, but definitly not "fiery." As many have argued, having to send Contreras down to the minors after everything he did to start the season, and then having no real options to replace him with, as well as having to run Lillibridge out there in the line-up, not good. ''A very no-life day. That's what it looked like to me,'' manager Ozzie Guillen said. ''I know when you're struggling it's not easy to get pumped up and smile and enjoy this game. Padilla pitched well, but at the same time, I didn't see any life. ''We're swinging at good pitches,'' Lillibridge said. ''We need results now. We need to string some hits together. That's what we want.'' ''We have good hitters,'' Guillen said. ''When things don't go your way, that's when you have to step it up. It's hard because we've tried everything. We've tried different lineups [19 so far], but then it becomes inconsistent. Someone gets hurt or that lineup on that day doesn't work. ''We'll hit, but we have to get going. I expect to have a better road trip than the last one [1-4]. Hopefully it's a wake-up call to play better. ''Hitting is contagious and winning is contagious, but losing can be, too. I don't want to keep hoping we come here and win. We've been through worse than this. I know it's still early, but it's better to work on it early.''
