  1. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 03:10 AM) A guy who's hit for s*** his whole life--do you think he's going to step right in, get minimal AB's and tear lefties apart like there's nothin' to it? Eduardo Perez offers nothing to this team. The guy sucked to begin with, and he's going to suck more now. He's 37 years old and hasn't seen a major league pitch since September of last year. Pablo Ozuna is a better option than Perez. And frankly, I think this guy should be batting lead off against lefties. Put Ozuna in at DH, bring up Josh Fields and platoon him with Mackowiak. That would be fine, if Fields had more than one or two weeks' of experience in his entire life in LF. His offense is a big enough issue at AAA, and then you want him to learn LF in the big leagues "on the job" while in the heat of a competitive division race? That type of pressure destroyed (at least temporarily) Anderson and Borchard, along with many other Sox prospects who couldn't be incubated in Pittsburgh, KC, Tampa Bay, Miami, etc.
  2. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) The problem is that he's still slugging a paltry .321 and hasn't topped .400 in any of the last six seasons. He can hit around 30 doubles and a few home runs but when you don't hit for average or take walks that's just not good enough. How is Rowand any different from Erstad, except Erstad is more fundamentally sound and a better all-around player?
  3. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) I hope KW gets Rowand. Charles Haeger and Anderson for Ryan Church
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) I think we have more blown saves already this year than we did throughout 2005. 19 blown saves, 73% conversion rate overall for the bullpen.... OTOH, we already have 6 in 22 games, which would put us on a pace for 44 blown saves and a coronary.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) Sweeney reminds me so much of Sean Burroughs. I don't see any possibility that he can dominate at this level. And if he does dominate, it's going to be in a Mark Grace/Olerud fashion....not like a 4-5 type hitter, as Borchard was once predicted to be. You certainly can't expect him to hit 20-25 homers as a rookie. I think .265 with 10 homers and 55-65 RBI's would be a realistic expectation, maybe 10-12 steals. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) If Perez receives enough incentive (ie, money) to return, and understand his stay in AAA could be relatively short, perhaps he would. One of Cintron or Podsednik should be gone by midseason. That's another problem, Perez is at least a week to ten days away from being able to play after having the last month or so off.
  6. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) I agree with you, here. Except we'll likely see Perez sharing times with Sweeney at DH and Mackowiak/Ozuna splitting time in LF. Guillen won't forsake his veterans for playing time in the outfield. An even bigger question is whether KW will go for a bigger "name" solution over the next two months than Sweeney, and how much he will be willing to give up...in terms of mortgaging a little of the future to fight it out to the best of our ability this year.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 08:12 PM) Another good AB for Erstad. We'd have a couple of runs tonight if not for our bench players in the lineup. Erstad 13 for his last 35.... .371
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:53 PM) He's not as big of an asshole as his brother, but he's close. His pitch count was up and he's coming off some shoulder problems and didn't pitch much at all this spring. He got knocked around (rusty) the first couple of times out, but he's back now. We had our chances to score and simply didn't get in done, and we let him settle into a rhythm. Erstad gets on in the bottom of the first and the complexion of the game might have changed, with Weaver coming into this game a big question mark.
  9. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:37 PM) Washburn was been pitching well. That's not good for us. Man, Boras wasn't kdding about Weaver being ML ready when he was originally drafted. I think Erstad is the only one swinging the bat well now....and Jermaine.
  10. QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) This game should be tied 3-3 right now. Sox aren't helping out Garland. He's given up 3, but Weaver has been hittable to the tune of three runs by now as well. Dead bats. Garland hasn't helped himself with that ball hit back up the middle by Aybar. Normally, he prevents those two runs from scoring.
  11. QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:21 PM) You'd think at home on a nice night against hittable pitches we'd score some runs. Maybe "doomed" is the right word. We are gonna face better pitchers than Weaver w/out Thome. Weaver is pitching well so far. He's making them beat him a single at a time, and we're not a fast team on the basepaths. It's not an accident he went 9-0 to start his career last year.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:21 PM) Why the hell is Cintron batting in front of Uribe? The alternating Lefty/Right thing...
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:20 PM) That's ridiculous. Our "bench" hitters are around a combined .150 on the season right now. That's just not going to get it done.
  14. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 01:04 AM) It's nice to see him get up off of his knees and stop sucking balls. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...-ssep28.article Tons of great quotes for Ozzie haters to sink their teeth into...since many feel that BA won the job in ST.
  15. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 01:14 AM) I said this last year (and was disagreed with) but this is the problem with having a 36 year old as your best player. Still, I don't see a reason to panic at this point. It's not as if he's done for the season. Hopefully Anderson gets sent down and we re-sign Perez. I can't see how Thome would be considered better than either Dye or Konerko, but okay. Obviously he's the only one of the three who will be going to the Hall of Fame, but I would say he's our third best player, maybe fourth, if Crede is for real, because Crede also plays a position at Gold Glove caliber.
  16. QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) yea erstad why do you suck so much?! all you do is get big hits late in games! java script:emoticon(':bang', 'smid_6') that's four game winning or game tying RBI's in the past 7 days.... Erstad > Anderson
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:36 PM) Todd Jones plays in the grand canyon. Todd Jones in this park day in and day out would get destroyed. Joe Borowski would make Thriller seem like strike out guy. Borowski would K Anderson approximately 44.9% of the time. Good job Sisco, let's hope the confidence in our bullpen keeps growing. Thornton's picked it up a little, but he lost some control with his FB 1 MPH off his normal 97.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) Can I have what you are drinking because its pretty potent. Todd Jones isn't great either, but he's effective. It would be no less nerve-wracking than our current bullpen. We're setting up for blown save #7 already. The Twins won't do that in an entire season.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) Good grief....why are we throwing fastballs to Vlad with a slider pitcher? Now we have Sisco in to face Anderson. It would be nice to have Joe Borowski. He blew the game against the Yankees with a 4 run lead, but he's been nails in all of his other games this season. And he doesn't throw 93-97, so it would be a totally different look for opposing batters.
  20. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:23 PM) If you look at the 05 season, the only 2 good months that they actually had a decent offense where the times that Thomas was in some protection for the middle of the lineup. The minute he left, the offense went in the pooper. Pods was a non factor in the 2nd half. Pods helped out in the first 2 months when the big guys were not hitting at all. But after that, its a wash. What was our winning percentage in 2005 when Pods stole a base and scored a run in a game?
  21. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) Nixon is more than a 'smudge' better than Podsednik. But if you want to think that they're equal ballplayers, that's your perogative. Nice job Bulls. Keep playing D and it'll be 3-0. Better player, but not better for the White Sox. Unless you think we would have won the World Series with Carlos Lee in LF and Magglio in RF instead...odds are, you'd see the same team as we saw in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. All or nothing. Pods changes the mentality of the line-up, he puts pressure on opposing pitchers, creates more fastballs for Iguchi and drives up the pitch count, WHEN healthy.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) From what I've heard, KW basically felt forced to bring back Pods due to the asking price of Roberts/Pierre/Matthews Jr. He had every intention of not having him come back. Speaking of cost savings, Garcia has a 5.65 ERA and is on the downside of a 4-3 Marlins lead. Take away Danks' 3 "unearned" runs on the pop-up against DET, and his numbers are clearly better.
  23. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) This is a serious question? It isn't a joke? Career OPS + Podsednik - 89 Nixon - 117 And Caulfield -- he's not a natural LFer? Is that a joke too? LF is the easiest position to play. We're not going to win the AL Central with Nixon as our everyday LF, or platooning with Ozuna either. Our OF would be incredibly slow-footed with Dye and Nixon...Mackowiak and Ozuna (despite his troubles) would get to more balls.
  24. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) Thome's BA is about 70 points higher than Cintron's OPS... I know its only been 13 ABs for Cintron, but, come on, thats just plain funny! And our current bench is 8 for 49 on the season. Ouch. We really miss Toby Hall's bat.
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) I always get a kick out of people suggesting we shouldn't have signed someone cause they're not great in LF defensively, yet they're fine with the Pods/Ozuna combo. I'm not fine with Ozuna and Mackowiak sharing LF for a full-season either.
