  1. QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) Seriously the umps alone have cost Danks a few earned runs this season. It's getting ridiculous. The horrible umpiring led directly to Contreras being forced to throw his fastball over the heart of the plate. No coincidence that umpire is "nursing an injured back" and unavailable for the rest of the series, along with the "hands across the throat" gesture to Gardenhire.
  2. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) Where the f*** was that pitch to Punto? Sox Pitching: We're Here to Encourage Your 2 Out Rally Monkeys
  3. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) ARE YOU f***ING SERIOUS WITH THIS s*** TWINS? Castillo coming into that AB hitting .178 as a righty. Almost .400 as a lefty....both Danks' walks to LHers.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:42 PM) I'll put it this way. Arm: Anderson > Rowand > Erstad Range Anderson > Rowand/Erstad (even) Routes Erstad > Rowand > Anders Anderson was by far the most talented and because of it the best, but Erstad takes super routes and gets the best reads of the bunch. Rowand was just flat out solid at everything (although I know most will knock his arm because its not as accurate as it should be and fact of the matter in 05 his arm was piss poor). And I'm tired of hearing how good Dye's arm is...past tense, USED to be. Perfect example of a player living on reputation and a past Gold Glove. Dye is a DH now disguised as a RFer. He's not quite Mark Teahen, Billy Butler or Emil Brown bad out there, but he's not far off either.
  5. QUOTE(briguy27 @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:39 PM) yea like ichiro Hunter will be too expensive if he continues to stay healthy and puts up comparable numbers, same with Ichiro...Andruw Jones' price might be falling, but the downside of a long-term contract at this point in his career will cause KW to shy away.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:38 PM) What, when Rowand was one of the 3-4 best in the game 2 seasons ago. Brian Anderson was one of the 3-4 best in the game last season. Ya, that would mean superb. In fact I think Erstad has been as good as those two were (or at least very close). 1. Anderson (slight edge due to arm, but he didn't exactly light up the assist meters either) 2. Erstad 3. Rowand And it's a lot closer between BA and Erstad than Darin and Aaron.
  7. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) Even with all my critcism directed towards the organization's player development, I believe they've been under poor direction. Including Williams. This entire philosophy of "drafting safe players to perhaps trade them" is ridiculous, IMO. It shouldn't even enter the minds of scouts. First and foremost concern should be drafting to help the ballclub. I'm just thankful Hahn finally realized the Lance Broadways and Kyle McCulloch of the worlds won't work any more in this league; in this division. Sure, they're good for anchoring a rotation as a #4/#5 position; but we already have a collection of pitchers who fit that mold. That's why I believe it all begins June 7th. Either the beginning of the end, or an indication we have people who have changed their methods for identifying talent. We're going to need it in the following seasons. The White Sox, to me, have been very contradictory. They've taken a lot of "athletes" like Borchard, Chris Young, Josh Fields, Jason Dellaero, Brian Anderson, etc. Many of them haven't developed. Drafting in the 20-30 spot, there aren't usually very many impact players available...or, I should say, it takes 10X more work to identify them in those spots as opposed to 1-10 or even 11-20. Picks such as Ring, Broadway and McCullough fall into that "safe" category, college pitchers who are expected to at least make the majors but have limited upsides. Matt Ginter would be another example...although Danny Wright was the opposite from that draft, an inconsistent college pitcher with a "great arm" and lots of potential. Same thing for the likes of Rob Purvis, Brian West, Wyatt Allen, etc. Actually, we've probably picked more "reaches" than we've had "safe" picks over the last 6-7 years.
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 29, 2007 -> 08:59 AM) Well yeah, but he's no better than any of our 5 starters right now, and he'd have been gone after this year. Obviously we could have got more for him, but it makes no difference we don't have him unless he could pitch middle relief. And just imagine all the steals against the Twins (with Freddy on the mound)...and how bad Freddy would be behaving with the lack of offensive support behind his usual 3-5 earned runs allowed efforts?
  9. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:05 PM) It amazes me even more than somebody thinks that we should trade Gio and Terrero. But I agree about Walker. Not that I think that he's a terrible hitting coach but, as somebody pointed out here weeks ago, Walker's coaching style doesn't seem to be working with this group anymore. Fair or not, I think that he'll be the first casualty. I'd like a list of all the times the managers have been fired and the new manager has kept the same hitting coach around on a permanent basis...it doesn't happen very often, and 90% of the time, the hitting coach is the sacrificial lamb before the manager.
  10. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) In 1997 the White Sox had 7 of the first 62 picks in the draft. I'm not going to hold my breath. Ah yes, Jason Dellaero taken before Lance Berkman, and Garland ended up being the only major "impact" player of that draft, and he wasn't even a Sox pick.
  11. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 29, 2007 -> 06:54 PM) let's remember this is a franchise that traded away Johnny Callsion, Earl Battey, Norm Cash, Denny McClain, Terry Forster, Rich Gossage, Brian Downing and many other solid players. And don't forget Hawk traded Bobby Bonilla for Jose DeLeon. sending McClain to Detroit was one of the worst ever. Baldwin for Onan Masaoka and the wrong Berry/Barry Foulke/Johnson for Koch and Cotts (although Neal saved that one, it still cost us in 2003) Cory Snyder Gary Redus a Bedtime Story (just wanted to type that) Royce Clayton for Myette (not on talent, but for disruption of team chemistry and displacing Valentin)
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2007 -> 06:49 PM) How can people not say the minor league people? Because they are the most "under the radar" you can possibly get...and their firings don't satisfy the "bloodlust" of the average fan in Kankakee or Peoria that goes to one or two White Sox games per year and probably doesn't even know the starting line-up of the White Sox. For instance, take Radcliff and Jim Rantz. WHO? Two huge reasons the Twins have finished ahead of the White Sox in four of the last five years with significantly smaller budgets. We'd be much better off to double the salary of either of those guys and let them remake our scouting department (like Dayton Moore is doing in KC with Braves' network scouts) than paying millions to Cintron, Pods and Mackowiak. http://www.citypages.com/databank/27/1346/article14739.asp
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 29, 2007 -> 06:02 PM) Um...man, that is the single most 1-sided deal ever. I think Liriano/Bonser/Nathan takes the cake there. Don't forget Sean Lowe, he was a gritty fifth starter who actually pitched some big innings for us. Ironic that we traded away three "starters" and got half of one back, since Ritchie went down to injuries after pitching in horrible luck (think Danks' first month). QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ May 29, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) Couldn't agree more. Our outfield -- RIGHT NOW -- needs a young player who can hit, run and field. THAT player is in Arizona, and he's named Chris Young. He'll get better, too. In his place is the guy who has been rewarded for mediocrity. IF -- and it's a big IF -- the signing of that turd to an $11 million deal prevents us from signing guys who actually have ACHIEVED things for this team -- and are critical to its makeup (Buehrle, Garland) -- the trade becomes even worse. And just so I'm totally clear about my position: I don't think Vazquez has underachieved. I think this is who he is, and has been, for about 6 years now. His stuff isn't excellent. The view to the contrary is a myth. Here's why: if you continue to hang off-speed pitches -- that is, throw curveballs that don't curve and sliders that don't slide -- you're not underachieving. Your stuff just isn't that consistently good. That's the guy I see. I get angry just thinking about that trade. I did the day it happened. And I do right now. We'll never know if CY could have put up similar numbers this year in the more competitive, pitching-dominated AL Central this year...maybe, maybe not. I guess we'll get a hint if BA is traded to an NL team and ends up becoming a regular.
  14. I wonder if anyone will pick an option other than Guillen or Walker...?
  15. Our bullpen is garbage. If he had the Angels' bullpen, or the 2005 White Sox pen, we'd be in a lot better shape. Considering the way Aardsma, MacDougal and Sisco have pitched recently, we're lucky to be over .500 still, with our offense still abysmal. Masset is our best righty now, and he shouldn't be in the bullpen, as he appears to be better suited to starting. The fact of the matter is that we're a .500 team, and will undoubtedly be within 6-7 games over .500 (both over and under) for the season, unless we make a major offensive addition to the line-up. Nobody's counting on Pods coming back at 100%, unless those were the same people who picked Mark Prior and Kerry Wood for their fantasy league teams.
  16. 2 IP 1 H, 4 ER, 4 Wallks (!!!), 1 K 6.35 ERA Brandon deserved the loss, but the Rangers came back with 5 against Dice-K to take McCarthy off the hook until the Rangers' bullpen managed to blow it. Time is running out for underprepared and inexperienced GM Jon Daniels.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ May 25, 2007 -> 09:10 PM) These are games you simply can't lose. Does anyone know how many games we've lost this year when leading going into the 7th inning? At least six.
  18. Not bad too get 10 hits in 6 2/3rd's versus a guy with a .199 OBA against the AL.
  19. QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 25, 2007 -> 09:01 PM) Ozzie never leaves pitchers in too long (see almost every loss). Who should he have gone too, Aardsma or MacDougal? Both those guys have been absolutely terrible recently.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ May 25, 2007 -> 09:00 PM) Elijah Duke hits almost .50 points higher against lefties. Can't one of his ex-girlfriends in the crowd take out a restraining order to get him out of their line-up right now?
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 25, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) Now you understand my issue with Brian Anderson, Jack Egbert and Andre Ethier. Not Reggie Willits too?
  22. This game is exponentially better than Pirates of the Caribbean 3. I didn't expect that after the first couple of innings. If Kiera Knightley played SS for the Sox, I would never miss a game.
  23. QUOTE(3E8 @ May 25, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) That was poor baserunning right there. But 8 times out of 10, you put pressure on the defense and they won't make the play to beat you. Granted, with Thome coming up, it wasn't the wisest move, but there's always a very good chance the catcher doesn't field the ball cleanly or, in this case, double-clutches. CLE leading 6-4 and threatening to make it 7-4 in the top of the 9th at Comerica.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ May 25, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) No reason to reliate to that yet. You can only hope to contain Terrero. Leading team in AVG and OBP, lol.
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ May 25, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) Buehrle really made some nice pitches those last two batters. Something that's interesting is how much we shade Delmon Young up the middle (2nd base), even though he seems to do a lot of damage to the right side. He's definitely a spray hitter to the outfield. I guess karma says the score should be right about where it is...great defense from both teams, lots of missed opportunities with RISP, the D-Rays have given up two runners at 3B with less than 2 outs.
