Brian Anderson simply doesn't profile as a "small ball" type of player. And I'm not sure that he ever will. It will be interesting to see our starting OF next year, to say the least.

Maybe they prefer to move Gio to LH set-up and make Sisco a starter? That doesn't make a lot of sense, Gio was the centerpiece of that Garcia trade... There have been lots of concerns about Gio's frame since he was drafted, and whether he will have the durability/stamina as a starter. Another issue is the pitching coach at AA or AAA. Some would probably argue that "Miracle Worker" Cooper being around a pitcher everyday would offset the perceived value of them starting every five days in the minors. And some pitcher need to build their arm strength through 22-26 starts, others, like Haeger, would seem capable of adjusting to any situation.

McDowell and DJ were right, last night he started off very tentatively, was getting behind, throwing forkballs when he should have trusted his fastball (which we'd all like to see at 95-97 instead of 91-92, but I think the gun was a little slow, although Harden's flat fastball was 97, he was normally 92-93 as well). I think Jose has decided that he's better off with a low 90's moving fastball than overthrowing a 95-97 fastball...although I do remember him getting a ton of movement from overhand and 3/4ers and still maintaining control. At any rate, that was a huge breakthrough (I hope) for Jose psychologically, and should help to erase the Indians OD massacre.

Sidney has already given up 5 runs in 2 IP, although Jason Kubel looked like the worst LF in baseball on a ball from Posada that should have been caught, instead of a 2 run ground-rule double. Abreu hit a 2 run bomb in the 2nd. Of course, with Pavano out there, you can never count the Twins out. And Ponson's short leash leads right to Matt Garza or Slowey in AAA...at least the rotation is not steamrolling anyone, a good sign for the Sox. It will be interesting to see if Ortiz can keep it up, and for how long.
