In the 50 games since that final Flaherty outing, no rotation has thrown fewer innings, with a gap of 15 fewer than the White Sox, and 45 fewer innings than any team not on pace to set the Modern Era record for losses. In those 50 games, Detroit has used 11 different starting pitchers. They’ve also had the most wins in the American League, and allowed the fewest runs in baseball, and now they are tied with the Twins for the third AL Wild Card berth (although Minnesota owns the tiebreaker between the two teams). You’d expect performance like that to be the result of a whole team contributing, and the lineup has certainly shown signs of life now that Parker Meadows, Riley Greene, and Kerry Carpenter are healthy and producing. That said, the offense has been more OK than great – just 15th in runs scored since the start of August. It’s about the pitching. It helps, of course, to have Tarik Skubal, who is all but certain to win the AL Cy Young Award. Yet he’s been the lone established starting pitcher in this group, which is the best run prevention unit of the second half, and one of the best pitching staffs in Tigers history. It’s not exactly how you’d plan it. But it’s working. How? And who are these guys who have led them back into the thick of the playoff race? (All numbers below are through Wednesday's games.) Tigers games started, since July 25 10 // an ace (Skubal) 10 // an inconsistent rookie (Keider Montero) 10 // an opener (Beau Brieske) 5 // a since-demoted opener (Alex Faedo) 5 // another opener (Holton) 4 // a former No. 1 pick working back from injury (Casey Mize) 2 // another opener (Brenan Hanifee) 1 // another opener (Mason Englert) 1 // a rookie making his MLB debut (Ty Madden) 1 // a rehabbing starter limited to short outings (Olson) 1 // a spot starter (Brant Hurter) mlb.com

The Athletic: Must Read article on Jerry Reinsdorf/White Sox

Maybe just eight first class seats for veteran players....four for manager/coaches? -
They usually get the most out of veterans...Edman right now, Heyward at various times as well. Long list of guys like k*** Muncy Taylor Turner whose careers were saved or resuscitated. Lux is fine for what he is. Outman last year Pages first half this year...younger guys. It's their starting rotation and Bullpen that will probably doom them again this year. Not exactly getting any high first rounders either.

Would never have happened on the part of local writers...took historic levels of ineptitude to expose the truth. The Emperor has no clothes! Maybe a couple of books do get written now because the story is so entertaining and almost unbelievable...don't have to be a Sox fan to appreciate it. -

We still really only have Bannister...Crochet/Schultz/Smith and zero can't miss hitting prospects and a non existent system wide hitting approach. -

Also, Burger and Sheets bringing in their own specialized hitting equipment...would be yet another major indictment. KW probably didn't like that they demonstrated their own initiative on hitting improvements outside the team framework. -

And Orioles....ONLY requires Witt, one hundred plus million in FA spending and/or the best farm system in the game. -

Ofc he had to tack away from Hahn and Haber. There was a not so subtle dig in there from KW about his ability to scout a future All-Star in person and the intimation that those two aforementioned guys were clearly lacking in that skillset. -

That Athletic take down article is must reading. And thoroughly embarrassing. About their A320 that's arguably the worst in the big leagues...shades of Major League again. All the damning quotes. Outsourcing analytics. Analytics reports conflicting because of multiple sources without a common agreement on which one to use. Total lack of information going to pitchers hitters and fielders...and little insights on how to utilize it. What makes me most angry is Kenny Williams coming back just when they got good again to gum everything up with his pride and ego...now the Burger/Eder trades rankles even more understanding the civil war going on behind the scenes. Also all that stuff about Williams' kid being a complete disaster in the front office. Finally Hahn and Haber to this day have still not gone on record...both totally out of the sport. Almost feel sorry for Griffin. Almost. As Pham expressed his frustration with various aspects of operations. -

https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb-playoffs-2024-ranking-all-the-postseason-teams-starting-rotations-from-the-guardians-to-the-phillies-201012464.html Orioles enter post season with only 12th best rotation...shocking development -
The 1916 Philadelphia Athletics season was the 16th season of the Philadelphia Athletics baseball franchise. The team concluded the season in eighth place within the American League, achieving a record of 36 wins against 117 losses (.235 winning percentage). Then the modern record, the 1962 NY Mets...The 1962 Mets (expansion team) set the modern-era record for losses in a season with 40-120-1. With an even month left in the season, Chicago (White Sox) has lost 104 games, three losses ahead even of the '62 Mets' pace for the season.

Cease with a one hitter through 6 1/3 against Houston.
-
Hahaha. Aiyo.
-
Moncada three batters from actually hitting.
-
Amaya not bunting? Sigh.
-
Too much for Vargas to come through twice.
-
Moncada not injured yet pinch running?
-
Somehow fitting. Never ending game. Sheets is going to bunt homer or K?
-
Should have given DLS a cleaner inning.
-
Not again...former #1-1 pick Moniak scores. 7th game of WS here.
-
How does that maximize Robert's trade value? Just DFA him like Alex Rios? Hope someone bites on contract?

Nearing bottom of Angels' lineup. Now or never.
