  1. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) I dunno if any of you guys frequent RealGM, but this is similarly ridiculous (hehe) to the Bulls fans over there b****ing about Reinsdorf paying Peavy and not Ben Gordon. What the f*** don't some Bulls fans understand about a salary cap? You can pay guys like that in baseball b/c there's no limit to spending (except for what the owner wants to spend). If the Bulls had resigned BG and not traded anyone, they'd be pretty constrained to make any future moves for the next couple of years. Not to hijack the thread, but I hate Bulls fans that use that argument. Anyway, the article is dumb. And you all have pretty much covered the reasons why.
  2. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) Being a fellow bad person I am going to assume that is a lie and you are f***ing with me...I hope. I really thought you were going to follow up with something about your dad being dead since you pulled the dead mom card the other day...
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) Just got one brand-new on eBay for $91 including shipping. Not bad. 2009 56.11 Vokey. You got yourself a good deal. I'm thinking about inquiring on a deal on Craiglist: TaylorMade Burner Driver (10.5 degree) for my dad and a 60 degree TaylorMade RAC wedge for myself. Both clubs for $115 total. Seems too good to be true. But, the seller says he bought the clubs new at the beginning of the summer and just doesn't like them as much as his old clubs.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 07:41 PM) Richard is a good counter-example here. Just maturity and maybe his almost Ivan Drago-esque (Rocky III reference) workout regimen. How dare you? Ivan Drago was Rocky IV. Clubber Lang = Rocky III... I pity the fool who don't know that
  5. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) Fields took by far the creepiest looking picture I've ever seen. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=435222
  6. Except for Brandon Short, that whole Kannapolis lineup is really struggling. They're all batting like .230, .240. Viciedo heating up is getting me pretty excited. If he keeps this up and finishes the year around .300 and continues the power surge, look out... Oh, and I love CJ Retherford. He just produces. 40 XBH's this year so far and the average is at .293 now. Pretty darn good for a second baseman.
  7. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 06:34 PM) Anyone want to sell me a 56 degree Titleist Vokey? Popular wedge. And very good. I'm wanting to add a 56 and 60 degree wedge to my set. Particularly the 60 degree for flop shots. I currently have a 52 degree wedge that I love, though. I could steal you one from the course I work at and sell it at a discounted rate, say, $60...
  8. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 11:52 PM) IIRC, the original telling of the story on here was that "he slays _____ like no other," not that people actually called him Slayer. Yep, that is exactly what was said b/c I said it. And I wish I never had b/c this "Slayer" s*** went too far. One of my buddies who goes to Georgia said that, but he was definitely exaggerating. I mean, my buddy said he was always with girls that were hot, but saying that he "slays puss like no other" was definitely something that I repeated even if it's not true. I can't believe something I started has gotten to where Beckham now knows about it. I feel bad b/c, really, no guy wants that reputation even if it is true.
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 12:07 AM) Andy Gonzalez was just DFA’D. It’s a sad, sad day. Oh, and Cliff Lee with a CG, 4 hitter in his first start as a Phillie. Not a bad way to start off with your new team/fans, eh? Philadelphia is legit.
  10. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 02:25 AM) With the Peavy acquisition, Q returning to form, Dayan establishing consistent studliness, Flowers figuring it out at AAA, and the Tigers and Twins both losing in extra innings, THIS is an even better day than Buehrle's perfect game. I don't say that lightly. I know a lot of people are saying stuff like this, but I don't agree with it. It was a great day, yes. But not better than getting to watch Mark's Perfect Game. That was a thing of beauty, and the best day of being a Sox fan for me since Game 4 of the World Series.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 01:34 AM) Yeah, but you don't get very far by attempting to rape other organizations all the time (although Theo Epstein might disagree). If you are fair and trustworthy, which I think Kenny tries to be, I think you'll get a lot longer in the long run. Good point. And I think that point is made in that Rosenthal article just posted, in which Towers said "To me, Kenny is one of the best GMs to work with on trades. He knows what he wants." There's no reason Towers had to say that, so you know he really does feel that way.
  12. Matt Milton from Mascoutah (Ill) High School committed to the Vols today. Anyone know much about him? I know he's a big receiver (6'6''), but not much other than that. I'm a big time follower of recruiting, but after dropping my Rivals membership and the fact that I didn't know UT was after this kid until a few days ago, I just don't know much.
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 12:48 AM) Rosenthal wrote a great article about this trade. Here are some highlights "If it's not my all-time favorite trade, it's close. It might not be a good trade, though I suspect it is. But for sheer audacity and shock value, how can anyone not like what White Sox general manager Ken Williams pulled off Friday? "Unreal," one general manager said of the Jake Peavy trade. "No question, it's a very high-risk move. You've got to have great intestinal fortitude to do it." Another exec was even more blunt in describing his admiration for Williams. "Biggest balls in the game," he said." http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9879004...with-Peavy-deal Thanks for sharing that. Really was a good article and makes me that much more excited about this trade. I really love it. And I guess it makes it easy to resume trade talks when you use the exact same package you offered 2 months ago (at least according to Rosenthal).
  14. An EF-1 tornado hit my golf course yesterday, and destroyed our South course (#1 ranked course in Tennessee). Over 200 trees down combined b/t our North and South courses. I was supposed to be at work when it hit yesterday, but had to give up my shift to go take care of that jury duty business I talked about a few posts ago. Scary stuff. But, my last few days of work before I'm done for the summer are gonna be pretty slow, unfortunately.
  15. Well, this is awesome. I go to work and when I come home, my dad tells me the Sox traded for Peavy. A phone call from my brother or dad would have been nice, but I guess I found out all the same. Great deal. As much as Richard was starting to show flashes and as good as Poreda might be (and Dexter Carter has been great this year, but still only in A ball), this is the type of deal you make for an Ace. Buerhle, Peavy, Danks, and Floyd for the next few years is gonna be phenomenal. And we still have Dan Hudson (who may have overtaken Poreda as the top pitching prospect in our org even before the trade), Flowers, Viciedo, Jor Danks, etc.
  16. It was a pleasure seeing the Sox actually be smart/successful on the base paths. The double steal to score Nix was great. I only got to watch from the 6th inning on, but we sure looked good.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) I had jury duty last fall. Case get settled right before jury selection and all that. Beauty of it was we were told it counted towards our service so i'm exempt now for whatever many years it is I know in Tennessee it's 10 years, which is nice, but I'm sure it depends on the state. Also, I found it interesting that Memphis is was of a very few cities that lets its jurors pick what date they want to serve (as long as that date is open). Apparently most everywhere else you are just told when you have to do it. I like it the way we do it. For the most part, it allows people to find a week that works best for them.
  18. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) I think there is significant doubt that Danks will be the CF of the future. I think this board is way too high on him and he has a lot to prove as to whether he would be a good enough hitter to be a full time player. He could very well end up being Brian Anderson part deux. Oh s***, for a second when I glanced at your username I thought someone hacked into my account.
  19. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) Aw schucks kyle dont worry about it. My mom is perfectly alive and well and I have a gay brother so its cool. I had a friend who that really did happen to. It was my freshman year of high school at the lunch table, and somehow the comment got made towards a guy about "f***ing his mother." Then the guy proceeded to say that his mom had died of cancer a year ago, which she really had. My friend felt so bad. The other guy wasn't really mad or anything since he knew none of us knew, but the look on his face when he said his mom had died was awful. I just wanted to leave the table, and I wasn't even part of the exchange.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 07:41 AM) How odd. He gets drafted out of high school, drafted twice in college, finishes his last year at 11-1 and then DOESN'T get drafted. Weird. Yeah, I think this will be a good signing. I was expecting much when I clicked on the link, but this guy actually seems somewhat capable of being a solid minor leaguer. Also, considering our recent track record with UDFA's (Wasserman, Retherford, Remenowsky, etc), it wouldn't surprise me to see this guy do well at the lower levels, at least.
  21. Okay, so the jury duty selection process was actually quick and easy. It took about an hour and 15 minutes for me to get out of there, and I was one of the last ones of 4,000 people. Considering how inefficient the City of Memphis usually is with these kinds of things, I was pleasantly surprised. I just read a book until they called people who had a reason why the couldn't serve, I showed them my Student ID, and that was it.
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:29 PM) You could have called and explained your situation and not waste your time driving out. Yeah, my dad said to try to do that, but of course I'm an idiot and didn't bother. It probably wouldn't have hurt to try. Anyway, the form said not to call unless you have a disability, etc (serious stuff like that), so I figured they'd just tell me I'd have to go down there anyway and show paperwork that says I'm enrolled in school.
  23. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:17 PM) It's just a figure of speech. Cole has good power and has a bright future. Speaking of Joe Borchard, I have a Joe Borchard Barons bobblehead. Oh, I know. I just always associate it with Borchard. I probably will the rest of my life b/c it was the 1st time I had ever heard that term used (keep in mind, I just finished 6th grade when Borchard was drafted... damn, it doesn't seem that long ago). Heck, I think Borchard's nickname around here was "LTP."
  24. This thread could turn out to be awesome. I hope some of you try this and get some ridiculous responses.
  25. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:48 PM) I have no problem trading Poreda and Fields for Sherill if that is what it took to get it done. At 1st I thought I'd be okay with that deal (Poreda & Fields). But after thinking about it, I'd be a little hesitant to give up Poreda in the deal as I think he could give us what Sherrill would even as soon as next year. This would obviously be a deal for this season, and maybe a precursor (if done soon enough) to move another bullpen guy like Dotel. Anyway, Sherrill isn't exactly a young pup (32) and he's had a 4+ ERA two out of his four full seasons. I don't know. I might still do it, but is Sherrill really worth giving up our top pitching prospect (though Hudson may have something to say about that)?
