  1. Not that this pertains to your situation, but... According to an interesting tidbit I read in the Wall Street Journal last year, studies show red light cameras actually cause more people to run red lights b/c they speed up (when they see yellow) to get through the light so they don't get a ticket, but end up running it anyway. The State of Mississippi has now banned all red light cameras, even after Jackson and Tupelo had already spent a ton of money installing them. Plus, there are rumors that some cities have shortened the amount of time lights are yellow in an effort to give out more tickets, and therefore, make more money off of the fines that come along with those tickets. Edit: I can't provide a link b/c, like I wrote, I read it in a newspaper. But, being the WSJ, I'd say it's a pretty credible source.
  2. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) You probably took offense to it...but I am white and in total agreement with 38E...LOL Same here. I chuckled when reading 3E8's post
  3. Gordon Beckham for sure... I always find a way to mention him in conversation at least once a day.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 03:53 PM) You can live without WalMart; just try going two weeks without an ATM. That's a lot of trips from 9am to 5pm to a bank. True... If there were no ATMs, banks would have to have longer operating hours, wouldn't they? Otherwise, people would have to go on their lunch-break since most are at work during those times.
  5. A lot of cool stuff happened in 1969. ATM's are a life-saver. And I love Wendy's. But, yeah, Wal-Mart opening has probably had the largest impact on society.
  6. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) Given what we've heard about Beckham, if he's flirting with .300, he'll probably nail .300. Nice. As for Beckham, he's sick. I mean, I have loved this kid since before we drafted him, but my god, he just keeps getting better. Gonna be a great one.
  7. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) That is awesome. Just emailed the image to my family.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 08:35 PM) Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey Protein. I bought it at GNC. Before going to the store I did some research and found ON to be consistently rated among the best protein supplements for both content and value. There are approximately 80 servings per container, and each serving has 24G of Protein. Compared to other supplements I plan on taking six scoops a day on weight training day and three on cardio days. This should hold me over for three weeks. Is that the 5lb tub?
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 07:30 AM) You won't believe this now, but you'll probably understand it when you aren't still 20 and in the fraternity (and before you think that's ain insult, its not, I was in one myself). You belief in your supposed control here is 100% delusional. Its simple chemistry - your body is not the same when .08% of your blood is alcohol - its just not. The science is very simple. Any thought you have that you are not effected by it is just completely false. Hopefully you figure that out through maturity, and not the hard way. No, I get that. I don't think I said I was 100% unaffected by alcohol when drinking that much. There's definitely going to be some impairment when having any amount of alcohol. Having one drink affects you, but how much it affects you is why people are allowed to drive with some alcohol in their system (otherwise everyone would have to blow a 0.00 to not get a DUI). Rather, I wasn't affected enough to be unable to operate a vehicle properly. Look, whatever my BAC level at that moment was, it probably would have been around .08. I'm almost positive it was lower than that, but if it was a .08 and I was "legally" drunk, I don't think I should have gotten the same punishment (if given a DUI) as someone who blows a .12 or something. B/c all that would have meant was if I had waited 15 more minutes to drive, I'd be "legally" able to again, being under the .08 mark. How does that make sense? I'm not sure if I'm just not making my point clear here or what, but everyone seems to think I take the stance that "getting a DUI is cool" or it's 100% fine to drink and drive. Getting a DUI scares the s*** out of me, so you best believe I'm not driving unless I'm about 100% certain I'm not gonna get one. But if I had for being so close to the limit, then my punishment should be less than that of someone who was well over the limit. Being .001 away from being legal vs .04 away is a large difference even if it may not look like it. Regardless, luckily I don't have to worry about this during the school year since we have pledges that are sober drivers 7 nights/week for the entire school year. It's our attempt to stop drunk driving, and it definitely works. EDIT: Okay, so none of this really matters anymore. I did 3 of those online BAC level testers (I know they're not 100%, but close enough), and the highest BAC level I got from the 3 was a .05, so I was well under the limit. 8 beers, 6 hours, 150 pounds, drinking Miller Lite...
  10. Rudy (watch it a few times a year even though I'm not a Notre Dame fan... I just love it) Shawshank Redemption
  11. Most beautiful day of the year today. 90, sunny, and best of all, no humidity. Is this what summer up North feels like?
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) All right, no offense, but this statement, especially the bolded part, is just absolutely brutal logic. Sorry, but this is a pet peeve of mine and I hate when people do this s***. If you've over .08, actually if you are even near .08, no you're not fine, you just think you are. You're drunk, actually pretty good and drunk. You might not be drooling and stumbling around, but you're drunk and you have no business driving. You think you're good to go, I'm on the expressway behind you gripping my wheel hard watching you drive 10 mph under the limit, wobbling back and forth, drifting into my lane and you have no idea you're doing it. And I'm sitting there wondering if I should just drive behind you and hope you don't hit a tree or something, or just gun it and fly around you as fast as I can and hope you don't swerve into my lane for the few seconds I'm there. Remember Tank Johnson? He didn't get a DUI because he had about a .72 after they took him in for a blood test. And why did he get stopped by the cops? Because he was driving erratically... just like a drunk person does! But that still completely absolved him of any guilt in some people's eyes. If you were 10 beers over the limit you might not make it to the end of the street if you're dumb enough to attempt driving then. Look, I know my limits. But you can't honestly tell me having 8 beers in 6 hours and then driving is going to end up with me driving 10 MPH under the speed limit and swerving between lanes. If I'm too bad to drive, I know it and won't do it. I passed a police officer on the way back that night and didn't get stopped. Don't you think if I was doing what you said I was, I would have gotten stopped... As for Tank Johnson, he got pulled over for speeding (going 40mph in a 30, I believe), not driving erratically. And I'm pretty sure speeding is something sober people do too. So that argument doesn't really work.

I took creatine for a month awhile back and I thought it worked pretty well. I didn't notice any loss of strength gains after stopping it like some people say happens. I took it when I first started working out seriously and it really did help me recover faster. Now I don't use anything, mainly b/c I can't afford to be buying protein, etc. when I have tuition and rent to pay. But, if I get a a little extra income soon, I'm gonna pick up some whey protein. I think that's the only thing I'll ever be taking from here on out. I liked my creatine experience, but there's still too much against it (like unknown long-term effects) for me to want to take it again.
  14. Fantastic writeup. I've always felt good about Viciedo all season even when others have been pointing out his low OPS, etc, and it's nice to see a very solid article backing a stance I agree with - that he's doing just fine for his 1st season in the U.S.
  15. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) That website is awesome. I somehow missed it when reading through this thread the other day.
  16. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) :wub: I didn't realize you were such an Adam Scott fan...
  17. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) Huh? I kept drinking after I drove home. And when I say "home," I mean my fraternity house (where I have a room) so there were a bunch of guys there and we kept drinking.

Definitely movies/TV shows... I love buying seasons of TV shows b/c it's a lot of viewing time, but I've gotten really backed up in what to watch.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) I have no problem with the National Anthem before the game, I like it and find it to be a proper respect to play it before the games as a reminder why we are able to enjoy such freedoms as a sporting event. But God Bless America during the 7th inning is just over the top in my opinion. I respect that. I can see where that would be viewed as over-the-top (people just want to hear the 7th inning stretch), but I'm definitely cool with it.
  20. So I just had a pretty hateful statement written until I realized I'm drunk as s*** and don't need to be posting right now. But, it had to do with you National Anthem/God Bless America haters... And believe me, it wasn't nice. I don't know how anyone could hate those songs. We're f***ing Americans. Why wouldn't you want to hear it??? Oh, and they're needs to be levels to DUI convictions. Like, being one beer over the limit is not at all the same as being 10 beers over the limit. But, apparently it's the same according to the court system here. I had 8 beers in 6 hours tonight and drove home fine, but according to the law, I'm pretty sure I would have blown over a .08, which means I legally drove drunk tonight even though I was fine.
  21. QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 09:31 PM) You guys can have Shawn Johnson, I'll take Sara Evans. Agreed.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 12:44 PM) Bulls bought out Tim Thomas contract. This will keep them from going into the Luxury Tax area. In addition, Boozer was on Chicago Radio today and indicated he has talked with the Bulls, would be open to an extension, and has been told by Utah that they are moving in another direction and that he will be traded. Cleveland GM has also reportedly told teams Chicago is the team to watch out for as they have good vets, a young star, and the money to sign at least one Max FA next year. Fantastic news
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 12:07 AM) Not sure how great of a golfer you are, but what kind of distances do you get on that driver? I just got a new 2008 Taylormade Tour Burner driver in 9.5. I'm relatively new to golf and I've hit a s***ty Ram driver 250 so I'm anxious to see the damage this will do. Eh, I'm an okay golfer. I hit my driver about 250 usually, but when I really connect I've hit it up to 280-290. I love the Burner as my driver.
  24. I'm not investing in golf clubs until I graduate college and get a real job. The only new clubs I have are a Burner Driver (taylormade) and a Callaway X-18 6 and 8 iron and sand wedge. Also got a Cobra 7-wood that I love (hit it about 200 yds, which is as well as I hit a 3-wood - not sure why). I work at a golf course and all the previously mentioned clubs were demo's that they were going to throw away, so I took them. Otherwise, I have a set of Wilson irons from like 1990 that are hand-me-downs. I definitely want some new irons, though. Think I'll go with the new Callaways whenever they come out since I love my X-18's.
