  1. QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 10:27 PM) I watch the women's softball World Series every year. I also watch the LPGA anytime it is on. I am a big Lorena Ochoa fan. I find the LPGA easier to follow than the PGA because there's really a lot less top players and the same ten women tend to compete every week. They make a few more mistakes than the men on the PGA and I can relate more to them. I don't relate amateur golf to the PGA at all. Also, have you ever seen Natalie Gulbis?! Whoa, a SuperSteve sighting...
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 10:53 PM) Is Shawn Johnson that cute girl in Rock Raines's avatar? Nope. But, I've always wondered who that girl was...
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 02:22 AM) Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine? No, but I do it anyway because it's sterile and I like the taste. Patches O'Houlihan!
  4. I've thought about changing my username for awhile now, but I can't ever bring myself to it. But, seeing Tex is just weird even if that's what everyone refers to you as. Now people are just going to call you "T". Really though, you taking off "Sox" is like if my dad shaved his mustache after he has had one my entire 21 years of existence. I don't know what I'd do.
  5. I clip my fingernails about every 10 days or so. I've never been a biter. Anyone know exactly what causes a hangnail? They just seem to pop up out of nowhere. Is it just wear and tear of using your hands to do stuff? Seem like the logical answer.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 05:22 PM) The netty pot was on Jeopardy yesterday and I got the answer right because of this site. Of course I was saying its that stupid thing Kap and Soxy use and my girlfriend is like, huh, but I gave myself points anyway. I love jeopardy, but really trivia in general. About 4 of my friends and I would watch Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (the Regis years) and Jeopardy at midnight and 1am every night last year. Anyway, not to get sidetracked... I use small scissors to trim my little bit of nose hair, but I only have to do that probably once every other month or so.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) I am a change whorte. I will pick up anything as long as it isn't covered in urine. This.

    The Military

My brother dropped out of college and joined the Marine Corps after 9/11 because he wanted to serve his country. My whole family was trying to convince him to finish his degree first (he had 2 years left), but he wasn't hearing any of it. So, he did his 4 years and is out now. He didn't necessarily like the way the Marine Corps was run and he didn't want to stay in, but he always says he wouldn't change his decision if he could. It was a good experience, but 4 years was enough. That said, he has told me that if I'm ever thinking about joining the military, the Navy would be the way to go (particularly one of their special forces units --> not sure how likely that is). He trained with Navy EOD guys and SEALS while his unit was on loan to the Navy from the Marine Corps, and has the utmost respect for those guys. Says they're pure badasses on the job and cool as can be off it.
  9. I love Hawk, but I didn't realize how much I love him being our announcer (and a huge homer) until Beckham's game winner against the Cubs (a game that was on FOX) where Buck just kind of gave a nonchalant "and the Sox win..." I was pissed b/c I'm pretty sure hearing Hawk's call on that hit would have been awesome.
  10. I'll agree that until you've lived down South, you don't know "hot."
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:39 AM) You ever get a replacement? Haha, yeah, I did. Rereading that brought back great memories of my 1st car (even as crappy as it was, I loved it). I have an '02 Taurus now.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 08:43 PM) Perfect thread for this: Oh my god... that was 4 years ago. Kinda scary that I still remembered the thread when milkman mentioned it, but I guess it is one of those memorable types. Pretty funny thread.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) You should visit Talkbulls. I guess that's what I get for not checking TalkBulls yet today.
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) Here is my first post, its strange how many people in that thread still post here: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...=600&st=210 What I love about that post is you talking about what we'll do with our $57M payroll. Thank god we don't have to put up with those monetary restrictions anymore. I kind of forgot what it used to be like having to operate on that tight of a budget.
  15. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) At first he used "Dancing Queen" by Abba, then he used one of the big hits from Milli Vanilli, I forget which one. That makes me like Danks even more. Shows he's got a good sense of humor if he's willing to have those play as walk-up songs in front of thousands of people. It reminds me of last Spring when my intramural softball team made it to the semifinal game here at UT, and we decided it would be funny to have some ridiculous music play during the game and when we were going up to bat, etc. We all chose different wrestling theme songs to go up to. I took The Rock's song.
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) A while ago, I started a poll in this forum with just two possible answers. It asked what you would rather have, a WNBA championship in your city (or a new franchise and then a championship) or 5 dollars right now. I'm not sure a single vote was cast for the championship. I remember that. In regards to the thread, I don't watch women's sports at all, except stuff during the Olympics. I mean, I go to a school that consistently sells out women's basketball games and has the most successful women's basketball team ever, and I've never watched a Lady Vols game except the 2nd half of the National Championship 2 years ago. I don't think I've ever seen a WNBA game either. But, that doesn't mean I won't watch women's sports. I just don't actively seek out to watch them. I'll watch tennis/vollyball/etc if there's not much else on TV.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) Boozer is obviously a whole lot better than Tyrus and Jerome James. The key is not preventing ourselves from getting Bosh. A healthy Boozer is a damn good player though, imo. Where'd you read that? I would be completely ecstatic about trading for Boozer if we were also able to get rid of Deng's contract somehow, allowing us to still be a player next off-season. I don't think re-signing Boozer would be much more than Deng costs, would he?
  18. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 01:25 AM) I don't know what's worse, that or the other two songs he has used...Milli Vanilli and Abba. Please tell me you're not joking... That would be too funny if he actually did that.
  19. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 12:50 AM) I generally meant dumb comments from "friends" you have. Dumb update statuses..... Yeah, I noticed that this thread took a wrong turn from where you intended it to go. Comments/statuses written on facebook, not about facebook, right?
  20. 2 chicks at the same time Sorry. Is that joke played out? Probably. Seriously, though, I'd like to think it wouldn't change me too much. Hopefully I'd buy some very nice things for my immediate family (new houses, cars, pay off student loans, etc), and then invest the rest and live very comfortably, but not over-the-top.
  21. I remember 1st posting in a minor league thread, but when I searched the FutureSox forum last night (after seeing Shipps' post in the Catch-All thread) to find my 1st post, it only went back to '04. But, I just realized we didn't have the FutureSox forum yet when I joined, so I searched Palehose and sure enough, found my 1st post... ^^ In response to a question about BJ LaMura, former minor league pitcher. Not terribly fascinating. It's interesting to look how post style changes over time, though, as I just looked through a bunch of old postings of mine from 5-6 years ago.
  22. I'm kinda surprised by all the Dominos hate. I love it. Easily my favorite of all the big pizza chains (but that may be b/c of their $4 Large pizza on Sundays in Knoxville - can't eat much cheaper than that).
  23. Happy 4th everyone! Gotta work all day (12pm-10pm), but that's what I get for working at a golf course. At least the weather is sunny here.
  24. Back in '90, I was on a plane from LA to DC during the Christmas holidays. Due to bad weather, we were put into a holding pattern above DC. However, during that time (unbeknown to us on the plane), some mercenaries hired to free a big-time drug lord being transported to the US took over the air traffic control radio frequencies and also killed lights to all the runways, so the pilots had essentially no visibility of the airport. And we were running low on fuel, so we had to make an emergency landing, but luckily, some cop from LA blew up the plane the mercenaries were in (killing the bad guys), so it lit up the runway and the pilot made a safe landing. Pretty crazy night.
