  1. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 08:07 PM) I work for one of those boat tour companies in Chicago, I'm bombarded daily with idiocy that should have made me insane: "Can the boats sink?" - Did people learn to not say that with that whole Titanic problem? But considering the closest thing any tour boat company has legitimately had since the Eastland (100+ years ago) was the Seadog losing prop and having to beach it nothing has even gone remotely wrong with the integrity of the boats on the lake. It's Lake Michigan, not the Bering Straight. "What if the boat sinks?" - Hope there isn't one lifejacket left and you and I are the last two people without one. "What if I fall off the boat?" - Sharks eat you. "Is it free?" - I'm paid to sit here and sell you a boat ride that is free. Right. I got a funny one a couple weeks ago when Obama was in town (he flies over the lake in his helicopter so they can see what's below them easily). "Which helicopter is Obama in?" It would kind of defeat the purpose of having like 12 helicopters if they told every employee making $10 a hour off Navy Pier which one the President is in. That is awesome...
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 07:26 AM) lol, probably 5x worse if you're black. That makes me think of an episode from "The Office" where Michael puts together a pickup game of basketball and automatically assumes the one black guy is good at basketball (when in fact, he's probably the worst one there). "Stanley, of course..."
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) F***. You said it best... Why the f*** couldn't be unload Hinrich's s*** contract? I know they wanted good value in return for Kirk, but seriously, he's a backup on our team. I would have been perfectly happy with us trading Kirk for nothing but expiring contracts. And with Salmons, Kirk's defensive ability (which is a big reason they like him so much) is less of a need than it was when all we had was Rose and Gordon guarding guys.
  4. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) Kanny won 7-3 Phegley 3-4 at DH. Well, that's encouraging to start off with a wood bat.
  5. I know it's really easy to get competitive when playing sports (trust me, I care too much about intramurals at school), but church league softball is something I can't get mad about when losing. No doubt I love to win, but if I lose, it's like "oh well..." I helped coach my church's youth group team for 2 summers and one of my best friends who was the head coach was way too into it. I was there for comedic relief to counterpart his seriousness. And I'd always do things like yell "swing away" (in a joking manner; obviously high school kids are old enough to know how to play softball) when our batter had a 3-0 count and stuff like that, and my buddy would get so mad at me. Anyway, it's good that you're apologizing and I'm sure whatever you did will be okay after you address the situation with your players. Speaking of softball, this is Jim Rome's take on "softball guy." And as much as I hate Jim Rome, he's spot on will his analysis. If anyone hasn't heard this, it's hilarious...
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:18 PM) Well you my friend are missing out. Just wait till Collari writes his first piece. And than we are working significantly on getting more guys in the Collari mold who are involved with the minor league franchises to contribute. It will single-handedly be the best team specific minor league site on the web. Yep, I'm very arrogant about the collective White Sox minor league knowledge on the site. Jason, I really do love the direction you're taking FutureSox. It may be a few years later than you originally anticipated, but it's going to turn in to one hell of a minor league site. Though, a few years ago we were doing pretty well; I guess people just got busy. As they say, life got in the way. Hopefully its back for good now. And I'll try to be contributing something shorty, fyi.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) You know the dude is just cool when you see that.
  8. I meant to reply to this the other day, but got sidetracked on Sporcle. Great website. Thanks for sharing.
  9. I've definitely found myself just kind of staring at it when I'm reading through a thread and see one of his posts.
  10. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 09:35 PM) Not last year, I knew the Barons roster almost a week ahead of time. I think he just meant for the rookie league teams since they're especially known for not having rosters up until the 1st game, mainly b/c of all the signings that happen in that short time after the draft, before the rookie leagues start.
  11. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) I will say he got too much flack in Dallas. He fully supported his teammates, but one of them in particular did not and that was Romo. Sure, Witten and Garrett wanted to get Witten the ball more, Witten didn't take the Owens thing personal, Romo never back Owens at all though. He never backed him which is why Owens became pissed. What a difference a year makes... (even if this was fake, at least he tried to act like he liked Romo)

    QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) Is this the same dog from Iraq that was mentioned in the Chicago Sun-Times a while back??? I really don't know. I doubt it would have been mentioned in a Chicago paper since my brother-in-law had him shipped to Denver where his parents live. I know it was on the local news in Denver and in their paper, so unless the Sun-Times picked up a story from there, it probably was a different dog.

    Two wheaten terriers and a shi tzu. Also have my sisters' 2 dogs living with us until she and her husband find a house since they just moved. Kinda crazy right now with 5 dogs around, but they're great. One of my sister's dogs is from Iraq. My brother-in-law saved him from some Iraqi kids that were pegging him with rocks, and it was his company's "mascot" until the Army said they couldn't keep him. So, he had to ship him home. He's the greatest dog too.
  15. Yep, great to hear stuff like that from a neutral observer.
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) Arkansas and Virginia are playing a great game. A lot of missed chances for both sides, but entertaining nonetheless. My main complaint is that these games take an insane amount of time to be played. Well, that was extremely frustrating as a person rooting for Virginia. They had so many chances with a guy on 3rd and less than 2 outs, and couldn't capitalize. Very frustrating... But, it was a good baseball game overall. And yes, for some reason these games take forever.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 09:06 PM) I forget which one is higher or considered better... is Great Falls or Bristol the higher level? Great Falls is the higher level. It's usually where we'll send the college players, whereas the high schoolers and younger international guys go to Bristol.
  18. QUOTE (Adele_H @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 07:51 PM) I am sorry, how is this NOT Jerry Owens 2.0 again? (serious question as I never seen him play) I think you're confusing Jared McDonald with Jared Mitchell. If not, then I don't know how you're comparing the two. Plus, if Jared McDonald ever became as good as Owens after being a 21st round pick, I think that would almost be considered a success b/c at least Owens contributed for a year in the majors. Not many 21st round picks make it that far.
  19. Just more good stuff to read about the Barons, from MiLB.com:
  20. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) Nice little piece on the barons http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=5061737 That's a great video. Thanks for posting it. Got me just that much more excited for the future of this team.
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) Sounds like Zagyi will sign: http://www.nj.com/independentpress/index.s...cago_white.html "I report in March." - What's that about?
  22. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) Thanx all for the nice welcome, I appreciate and watch the Sox from overseas in Spain. Have to stay up late to watch the night games on MLB.COM but hey the Internet is a neat medium. Back to DV, another thought I had which is really the opposite of the point of this thread and which is something that is being hotly debated is whether or not his defense will be cause for concern. Problem with MILB.COm is that they do not put up the robust fielding stats as opposed to hitting/pitching. If we project going forward that DV´s errors (15 to date) decrease as he also acclimate´s to the US style of fielding fundamentals does it really mean he will improve significantly or marginally? I mean I would argue for logic´s sake that he could actually have the most tremendous value to be groomed as the future DH and take Thome´s spot in 2011. Psychologically this is bound to take half of the pressure off him with regards to improving to MLB standards defensively. I just don´t think he is destined to be a Gold Glover at 3rd. We already have a couple of DH possibilities in AA (Allen and Flowers if his kness give out) so I don´t know. But to have just DV concentrate on his hitting and excel and grow at that is the purest way to him being a true stud. Another international poster - very cool... You seem like you could add a lot to the minor league discussions we have on this board, so I hope you post more often.
  23. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) I think I could get an interview with Treybone for Future Sox. That would be great.
  24. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) To be fair this is 2 years early (it says hes only a Sophmore) and it doesnt sound like he is actually graduating. I didnt know you could leave HS and go to Community College, haha. As for whether its a good idea, time will tell. He could have a career ending injury walking to community college. That's a big reason on why I don't think what he's doing is right. He only spent 2 years in high school. I'd be less adamant about this if he was only skipping one year, but 2 years is over the top. I don't know anyone that's graduated high school early (and in this case, he's not graduating, but getting his GED) except my mom, and she graduated high school after 3 years before going to college. And she has always said that she really regrets missing that last year of high school with all her friends and all the stuff she would have done. I'm not saying he won't be successful and I sure hope he does well, but I'm worried this is the wrong route to take for him as a person (though it could be as a baseball player too).
