QUOTE (scenario @ May 30, 2009 -> 09:13 PM) For some time now there seems to have been a fairly popular consensus that if Brian could only hit .250... that he'd HAVE TO be the regular because of his defense. So, here he is... batting .275... but we have to get rid of him because... he strikes out to much... or doesn't hit in key situations... or whatever the fan flavor of the week is. Fascinating. I say as long as he doesn't sink into sub-Uribean type batting average and OBP territory... keep running him out there. Thank you. This was exactly what I would have posted had you not done it already.

Sox acquire Ramon Castro and cash for Lance Broadway

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ May 30, 2009 -> 08:25 AM) 2005 Draft: 15) Chicago White Sox, Lance Broadway, rhp, TCU 16) Florida, Christopher Volstad, rhp, Palm Beach Gardens HS, Fla. 17) N.Y. Yankees (from Philadelphia for Type B Jon Lieber), Carl Henry, ss, Putnam City HS, Okla. 18) San Diego, Cesar Carrillo, rhp, Miami 19) Texas, John Mayberry, rf, Stanford 20) Chicago Cubs, Mark Pawelek, lhp, Springville HS, Utah 21) Oakland, Clifton Pennington, ss, Texas A&M 22) Florida (from San Francisco for Type A Armando Benitez), Aaron Thompson, lhp, Second Baptist School, Texas 23) Boston (from Los Angeles Angels for Type A Orlando Cabrera), Jacob Ellsbury, cf, Oregon State 24) Houston, Brian Bogusevich, lhp, Tulane 25) Minnesota, Matthew Albidrez-Garza, rhp, Fresno State Good drafting Sox.... That's a bad example. Look at all the other teams that passed on Ellsbury and Garza too. There's a reason they fell to the late 1st round. So, I guess the Yankees, Padres, Rangers, Cubs, A's, Marlins, and Astros all suck at drafting too b/c they passed on at least 1 of the players you put in bold. -

I'm happy for Whisler that he got called up. Not sure he'll actually stick around, but he's pitched so well in AAA, he deserves a shot. -
Glad UVA pulled out the win, though!

Sports Officials ~ Who are the most swayed by superstars?

Ah, all this talk about poor NBA officiating makes me think about that time in the 90s when traveling was getting out of hand... And this great Sportscenter commercial. -

Shaq would be awesome. Not only would it give us an expiring contract for 2010, but it would give us a solid big man and more importantly get rid of Deng's albatross of a contract. Plus, I just love Shaq. -
John Calipari is a dirty coach?
dasox24 replied to Palehosefan's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Yeah, no kidding. I wish Calipari would take any sanctions against Memphis with him to KY, but that obviously isn't how this type of situation works with the NCAA. That's how it should work, though, since you know he knew everything "dirty" that was going on. I hate Calipari more than any other coach in all of sports. He's one smug jackass. -

QUOTE (joejoedairy @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:14 PM) Are we facing the 3rd member of the rangers vaunted dvd pitching prospects, diamond, or is that a different one. either way im glad we got the good d from them It's a different one. Edit: nevermind, palehose beat me to it. On a side note, Jordan Danks is batting .391 now. Yeah, it's only 64 AB's but come on. He's doing even better than High A so far. This is getting so awesome following this Barons team.

Here's a cool draft blog I found with a write-up of the Sox previous 4 drafts under Laumann, and a bit of a preview for this year's draft: http://mlbbonusbaby.wordpress.com/2009/05/...cago-white-sox/

QUOTE (flavum @ May 26, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) Barons put up a 6-spot in the 1st on 8 hits: Danks single to right, caught stealing Beckham single to center Flowers struck out looking Allen RBI double to RF that would have been a homer in most parks. Viciedo RBI double to RF Gartrell RBI single to center Cook infield single Shelby 3-run HR to LF Retherford single to center Danks walked Beckham flies out to CF What's even more impressive is that they did all the damage with 2 outs. This team is sick (not that I really need to say that).

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 26, 2009 -> 07:28 AM) And it looks like Brett Wallace is on the fast track to the bigs. Yep, he's been very good every step of the way and it's no different now that he's in Memphis. I know we were rumored to like him a lot in last year's draft, so I like keeping tabs on what he's up to. Plus, now he's in Memphis, so I'll probably see him play a few times this summer.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 25, 2009 -> 11:58 PM) I'm totally going to have to make my way to that game. See Strasburg pitch in my home town. If you do, will you tell me what you think of UVA lefty reliever Matt Packer (#15) if he gets in the game? He's one of my buddies from high school. Led the nation in ERA last season, but struggled a bit at times this year. Pitched 3.1 scoreless innings of relief in the ACC Championship game the other day.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 20, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) NHL Eliminates Sticks, Expands Goal Zone To Encourage More Touchdowns I've been meaning to say this, but this is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. The content and (even moreso) the perfectly parodied ESPN-style show is hilarious. The "Steam Room" That was just great.

Sox @ Angels 5-25-09 - Danks vs. Santana
dasox24 replied to whitesoxbrian's topic in 2009 Season in Review
I love Brian Anderson... I've always been a big proponent of him being our starting CF even with his struggles in 2006. Glad he's showing why we kept him around, even if Ozzie hates him for some reason. -

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ May 25, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) I can't believe UF got a national seed. Go Miami in that regional. Also, that Irving regional is awesome. UVA as a 2, SDSU as a 3 and the defending champs as a 4 again. f*** that... UVA and Irvine got screwed. UVA should have been a #1 and Irvine shouldn't have gotten the best #2 in their regional. Unfortunately for Virginia, they have to face Strasburg in Game 1, so that's like an automatic loss.
