QUOTE (BearSox @ May 24, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) Hell, maybe even next year. Imagine if he could make a similar impact as Granderson or Sizemore did when they came up... I'm extremely excited about the possibility of seeing Beckham called up soon and play 3B for us in June. If we call him up, that doesn't hurt his arb clock, right? I do believe you're correct in that it wouldn't start the arb clock.

So I guess the Pirates were just what the doctor ordered to help our pitching staff try to get back on track.

Damn, I wish I had started watching before this last inning. Richard had 8 k's! He must have been pretty money tonight. Wish I could have watched him operate more than 1 inning.

QUOTE (daa84 @ May 23, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) its a shame that it was all set up by the dumbest f***ing rule in all of sports....just because you call a timeout you are allowed to advance the ball over half the court without time expiring?? so dumb I hate it too. Calling a timeout shouldn't allow you to move to half-court for the inbounds. Terrible rule. -
QUOTE (Wanne @ May 23, 2009 -> 01:28 PM) 2nd consecutive CG shutout. 2nd consecutive 12K game. Now 14-1 on the year. The dude just wins. So did Lance Broadway in college. I want to stay away from Leake. Yeah, he might be a solid, safe choice, but we have seen where that's gotten us in Broadway/McCulloch. There's no denying he has been dominant this year, but I want a more high risk/high reward type pick.

Fantastic outing by Floyd! We needed that.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 22, 2009 -> 02:41 AM) FutureSox absolutely rules. Yes it does.

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:20 PM) I love how everyone has their socks high. Also, that was a shot by Beckham. Agreed. I think it's a great look. I wish more guys did it on the big league club. That's how I'd wear my socks if I was in the Show.

Draft Profile - Tony Sanchez, C, Boston College
dasox24 replied to scenario's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (BearSox @ May 20, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) From what I've heard about Phegley, there are still question marks as to if he can actually stay behind the plate. But he's shown he's been able to hit. However, which conference is has tougher opponents, the Big 10 or ACC? The ACC... Florida St, Virginia, North Carolina, Miami = all teams better than anything in the Big 10, at least year in, year out. I really want a catcher early in the draft, and I would love Sanchez. That said, I think I'd be excited about just any of the top catcher prospects, except for Phegley (haven't read many good things about his D). I want someone that has a realistic shot at staying at Catcher. At least with a high school kid, we can hope they develop defensive skills. If a college guy isn't that good behind the plate now, I'm not sure he'll ever be. -
Damn, now I'm gonna be late for work b/c I was trying to wait this out...

Ha, I didn't even notice until you guys pointed it out. Very nice, mystery mod... And nice touch with the "It's About My Penis" thread being pinned.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) Futuresox has really become a fantastic forum...thanks everyone. It's amazing what happens when Kenny actually gets some real prospects in the system... We were so barren that I'm not surprised this board was dead for some time. I'm definitely glad to see it this active, as I probably spend more time reading through this board than any other (even if I don't post a ton anymore). And beautox, thanks for the videos! "Well, we paid him $11 million dollars, I hope he turns out good..." - I cracked up at that

Absolutely terrible. Prayers go out to the former White Sox pitcher and his family. I can't imagine what it must be like for the daughter finding her mom dead. http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/wir...0,4477554.story

Yeah, I know it may not be a work of literary genius, but I find it entertaining. I finished Angels and Demons a couple weeks ago, and I just started this last night. I'm a little behind the times on these books, but I'm glad I'm reading them. Next up on my list to read is The Green Mile.

I really like this guy. And if he's there with our compensatory pick, I'd take him. He has so much talent. I wouldn't mind the time it took for him to get back from TJ. I really think the positives would outweigh the negatives with a selection like this.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 19, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) Should be an interesting draft for us. I expect us to revist Brett Basham and Christopher Cron in this draft who were former picks. I'm also sure we'll see some guys/projects with high eras in college taken in later rounds who either need a mechanic tweak, or to develop better their secondary pitches (like the Dominion boys, esp. D. Carter who was already bringing it with his 95+ gas but now has the command) Should be pretty interesting also to see half of soxtalk pissed at a pick. That would make sense with Basham and Cron. I don't think Basham improved his stock much by going back to school. His was a 1st team SEC All-Defensive Catcher last year, but lost out on playing time this year to another Senior who came out of nowhere (Kyle Henson). He still started 20-something games, but his offense was about like last year (only hit .280, 3 hrs, 17 rbi). With his great defensive play, though, he would be a nice guy to have in the minor's helping out our pitching staffs.

Tinoisamoa would be a great addition for the Bears. It almost makes too much sense. And James Harrison is an idiot. -
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) Top 5 cities where Americans are relocating: 1. Raleigh, N.C. 2. Austin, Texas 3. Charlotte, N.C. 4. Phoenix 5. Dallas What going on in NC? Good to know about NC. Since Raleigh and Charlotte are both only about 3-4 hours from where I go to school, they could very well be places I move to after college. I love Austin. My sister lived north of there for a few years before moving to Houston, and I always really enjoyed going to visit. I would love to live there at some point. As for as North Carolina goes... My roommate from last year is from Winston-Salem and he was always talking about how Charlotte was such a great city, especially for young people (his brother lives there), but I've never been there, so I always took his word for it. Must be pretty accurate if that many people are wanting to re-locate there.

Viciedo with a clutch 2 out, bases loaded, 2-run single in the 4th to give the Barons a 6-4 lead. Allen tagged out trying to advance to 3rd on the play. Good to see Dayan continue to rack up the RBI's, even if his average isn't spectacular. I wonder what his BA is with RISP... EDIT: With 2 outs in the 4th, the West Tenn runner tried to steal home, but got tagged out. Good play by Harrell, Flowers.

2nd Inning: Brandon Allen HR (5th of season). Tie game, 1-1. Announcer just said the Barons lead the Southern League in HR's. No surprise there. Viciedo ground out Gartrell walk Shelby walk Cruz flies out to deep LF, warning track... Wind blowing in, kept it from going out Retherford 2-run double to LF (Just continuing to do his thing... 10 game hit streak for CJ) Danks broken-bat groundout 3-1 Barons

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 16, 2009 -> 07:16 PM) You will see "The Kids Can Play II" before you see Ozzie fired. He will walk away before he gets fired. I can't wait until this happens. At least if a team is young and doing poorly, it's a bit more fun to watch. You can have hope for the future, for development. But, we have veterans galore and we suck. That makes this s***ty start to the season all that more painful.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 16, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) Has anyone from the Sox brass ever come out and comment on getting punked by no name pitchers? This is ridiculous. The guy made 2 starts with an ERA of 6 and shuts us down completely. If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around, does it make a sound. Could Gavin Floyd pitch well against the Sox offense? That'll spin your wheels for a while. I do know that it made me happy to hear Hawk essentially b****ing about the fact that we let another young, no name starter look like Cy Young out there. At least someone directly involved with the team is pissed about what all of us have been mad about for years. We always suck against young guys like Ray.

How come everyone always assumes we're the ones who would be so far behind technologically? Who's not to say we're the super-advanced society compared to what else may be out there?

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ May 16, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) Wasn't the ref who got pinched for gambling officiating that game,I recall something to that effect... I don't think he actually officiated that game, but I do know that he said 2 of the refs made calls in favor of the Lakers to extend the series to a Game 7.
