QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) This will definitely be a make or break year for Lovie. Won't have anyone else to blame if the defense underperforms. I like Lovie, so hopefully it works out. Absolutely. If the team doesn't make the playoffs, he's out. Especially since he is keeping his "boy" Babich around. I understand Lovie will be more involved running the defense, but any other good coach would have fired Babich long ago. I can't stand the amount of "loyalty" Lovie is showing to the guy just b/c he's one of his best friends. Honestly, it's so frustrating. Oh, and count me in the group that wants to see more Earl Bennett. The guy can flat out play. I saw him numerous times against SEC competition where teams geared up to stop him (b/c he was all Vandy had), and he still dominated. We're idiots for not playing him over Rashied "Hot Hands" Davis...

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 12:34 AM) Biology of the People 103 (including a separate Lab class every Tuesday) Jazz History 219 Applied Statistics 215 Music Literature 100 History of American Sports 325 After this semester, I will be completely done with Gen-Eds. That's a great feeling - being able to concentrate on what interests you rather than taking the Gen Ed classes. Though, it's also when the classes start getting harder, lol. On a side note, I took History of Jazz last year and I loved it. Never had much knowledge or liking for Jazz music until I took the class and now I really enjoy it (at least at certain times). I even bought a huge coffee table-style book about a bunch of different Jazz musicians after the class. Can't say I'm an expert by any means, but I enjoy the genre.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 12:35 AM) Ugh, I hate that. People immediately flip s*** when there is any mention of authorities. Right...because throwing your drink, bolting for the back door and running like an asshole makes you look of age. No kidding... Every cop I've ever talked to (and believe me, I've talked to plenty) says if you act normal, you won't get in trouble. That's why I hate freshman newbies because they can f*** things up by freaking out if cops do bust up a party. I've never gotten a citation or anything like that in my life for drinking and I've been to a few parties that have had the cops show up. Unless you encounter some complete jackass cop on a power-trip, they'll respect you as long as you respect them. Sound advice for any high schoolers reading this board. On a side note, making friends with campus police can do wonders for you. I've literally drank with a UTPD officer in my house before when he was off-duty. I'm on good enough terms with 3 police officers on the force here that I don't ever really worry any more about getting in trouble.

I don't know how you guys put up with walking to class in that cold of weather. I mean, I had to walk about 15 minutes to class today in 12 degree weather (with the wind chill) and it was awful. I almost thought about stopping half way and going back home. I literally couldn't feel my face when I got inside. Do you guys cover your face or anything when it's in the negative degrees, or just suffer?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 10:31 PM) We once had rats in my uncle's house that were getting in through a hole in the basement wall or something. Let me tell you, rats are f***in gangsta, they just plain do not take s*** off humans just because we are bigger. I tried to stare one down once when it climbed in from the bathroom and I was in the dining room playing video games, it walked towards me, stared, and turned around and walked away. Well, we set a couple of big glue traps, the next morning I woke up ready to go to school and my brother and I heard a shrieking sound so he goes in the kitchen and he's like "OH MY GOD THIS IS DISGUSTING COME LOOK!" and not only was the rat stuck in the trap, but it had chewed off one of its legs trying to get out and it was working on another one, there was blood and dirty hair all glued to the floor. Let's just say that was rather unpleasant... we got rid of the rest of them by poisoning them. I couldn't eat for about 2 days after that, lol. One of my friends had a rat that would venture into his room last year, so he set a sticky trap one night. When he woke up the next morning, the sticky trap was half-way across the room with no rat. You're not kidding when you say those things are "gangsta."

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 08:53 PM) Set ,ore traps, but put the poor things out of their misery rather than letting them die a slow painful death stuck to the glue trap. Yeah, I think I'll stay about from the sticky traps. I mean, I was pissed when I realized a mouse had gotten into my food, so I was determined to catch it. I was like, "F--- this mouse." But once I saw it like that on the sticky trap, I felt awful for the little guy. My friends said to crush its neck, but I felt too bad. I took the pussy way out and left it outside. I should have just gotten one of those old fashion traps that snap down on it. Btw, to the others who responded, thanks for the input. Unfortunately, you all seem to think I have other mice, so that sucks. Guess I'll be setting another trap tonight.

So I found out a mouse was living in my room yesterday and set two of those sticky traps hoping to catch it. Well, there was nothing there this morning, but when I came back from class, the mouse was stuck and shrieking trying to get itself free. Then I felt bad b/c it looked so helpless, but I got a shovel and put it in our dumpster anyway. Poor little guy... On that note, should I set more traps? Is it likely there would be other mice living in my room too? Gotta love piece of s***, college-student houses...

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 12:23 PM) Okay. I'll start the Soxtalk awards. Awesome... I'm excited even though I don't expect to win anything. Maybe best poster with less than 5,000 posts that has been around for over 5 1/2 years...

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 05:13 PM) damn and I was hoping that the Tenn win would be a good win come March. Oh, it will be. Tennessee will still win the SEC and get highly seeded, but that's more because the SEC is really weak this year. I mean, obviously UT is pretty talented having beat Georgetown and Marquette this year, but they will be inconsistent, which is why they won't make too much noise in the tourney. Probably Sweet 16 and done. -

Haven't seen any posts from the Illinois St lovers recently... On a different note, Tennessee isn't as good as people were making them out to be. We're really young and obviously going to have off games against teams that aren't nearly as good. We haven't lost an SEC home game in 2 years, but I expect that to change this year. Oh well, as long as Scotty Hopson keeps playing like he has, he won't be leaving early, which means we'll be getting everyone back next year except Tyler Smith. That should be the year the Vols make some noise. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) I was laughing during my procedure but I haven't been in much pain. Little swelling on the side where both my teeth were impacted and the gums are irrated as hell back there. Not being able to brush your teeth for the first two days was awful though. You're lucky you didn't experience too much pain... What also is going to suck is that until the holes (where your wisdom teeth were) close up, you'll get food stuck in them back there, which isn't painful or anything, but I just found it to be really annoying.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) Screw the list. Get the Soxtalk awards ready damnit. I kinda forgot about the yearly Soxtalk awards. I guess we do need to do that soon now that it's 2009. As for list ideas, I like some I saw pointed out earlier like type of beer or tv shows. I also really like the idea of type of alcoholic drink.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 10:51 PM) defensive coordinator should be fired for OSU....you have single coverage with a safety on the reciever that has burned you all night with no help over the top with 25 seconds left?? awful....then the dumbass tried playing the ball even though the reciever had the ball for like 2 seconds by the time he got there...brutal At the same time, if the dumbass hadn't gone for the pick and just kept the play in front of him, Texas would have had a good spot if the WR caught the ball, but that's all. They still would have had to score. -

Looks like the refs may have re-spotted the ball from where the initial ref put it... This game is great. -
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) while skimming through this wonderful thread, a question popped into my head... is there any difference from the circumcision at birth done by a doctor at the hospital then the circumcision done at a bris or religious ceremony? EDIT: I just did some quick research on my own, and it turns out about only 30% of males have been circumcised. I thought it'd be a lot higher number then that, maybe 50%. Also, only 32% of that 30% are non Muslim. That's all? I would have thought it would be higher too... The Few. The Proud. The Circumcised.

I put 8... I mean, it just depends, but the only girls I've dated would categorize as an 8, so I guess that's my best answer.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) I don't get the hype over anything that Lane Kiffin spearheads...I mean, at what point has he done something in his coaching career to make you think "Wow, we need that guy on our sidelines!!" He grabbed David Reaves from South Carolina, and I couldn't say Good Riddance fast enough as a S. Carolina fan. GL with those hires, all the recruiting in the world doesn't matter when you have a hapless hack as a Head Coach. Wow. You seem to be in the minority of SC fans who think Reaves leaving is a good thing. He was the head recruiter of your Top 15 class, so I'm not sure how him leaving is good. But, okay. And Kiffin may not do anything. I know that. Every Tennessee fan knows that. But, he has the potential to be great, which is what we need to be able to compete with Florida, Alabama, and Georgia year in and year out. We couldn't settle on hiring some coach that will win 7-9 games a year, essentially already knowing what you're gonna get from the guy. Tennessee fans won't allow that. South Carolina is about the last team in the SEC I'm worried about, though. That's a team that has never and will never win anything of importance. Not with schools like Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee in the same division. I usually don't like to call out other teams like that, especially when UT didn't even go to a bowl game this year, but if you're a true South Carolina fan, you already know what I said is true. By the way, isn't it about time yall start looking for a new coach? The 'Ol Ball Coach has done a great job for you, hasn't he? 28-22 in his 4 seasons. That's not gonna compete in the SEC East. -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 03:52 PM) I like how everyone's let my "internship in a bar bathroom" thing slide.... You gotta do what you gotta do... On that note, I'm looking for a logistics internship this summer, so if you have any pointers...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) Season 5 was quite entertaining IMO. You can't believe everything you read. Good to hear. Actually, now that I thought about it, I decided to do some research and see if Season 5 is even on DVD yet, and it's not. So, I guess I have some time before deciding whether I want to get it. Hopefully I'll hear more good things.
