Official 2008-2009 College Basketball Thread

I had to tape the Illinois game, so I just finished watching it. All I can say is what a great win for the Illini! Even with some terrible calls against them as well as going, what, 1-5 on free throws to start OT, they came through in the clutch. The defense looked very good, and that possession where Davis had 2 blocks in a row was huge. And it was good to see Legion getting involved in key situations and doing well. -

Shanahan may have been 24-24 over the last 3 years, but he's still a damn good coach. Who better are they really gonna get? That team's offense definitely has a lot of talent, though, so whoever the new coach is is going into a pretty good situation. I'd say the Broncos job is probably the best one available right now. They have a young stud QB, 2 very good young WRs, and a bunch of young RBs that all looked good before getting hurt (Peyton Hillis or Ryan Torain both looked great before getting hurt, though what Denver RB hasn't looked great the last 10 years?). They defense has some good individual players, but they definitely need to add a few guys through free agency and the draft, and you could see Denver being a 10-win team next year based on talent level. -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) 3rd round pick is still pretty valuable. Who do they go after that is better than Mangini though? BTW, I think he would make a great OC with the Bears. I don't think Mangini has ever been an offensive coach in the NFL, so why would we want him to be our OC? Or is that a typo and you meant DC? -

If the Bears could somehow sign Albert Haynesworth to put next to Tommie Harris next year, that would be my 1st move in the off-season. Highly unlikely for a couple reasons, and the Bears will say "we don't want to invest too much in one position," but in all honesty, it would made our defense dominant again. Now before all of you go crazy b/c the Bears always seem to draft DT's, I know where you're coming from. I would not be in favor of drafting BJ Raji in the 1st round or anything like that. But, if we had to opportunity to sign the Defensive POY, then we should do it. If you take a guy who's huge and take up 2 blockers consistently like Haynesworth, not only will it free up Urlacher and Briggs more, but can you imagine the havoc Tommie Harris would wreak if he only faced a single blocker on almost every down? It would help him stay healthier and fresher not getting consistently doubled. Also, Haynesworth is a phenomenal pass rusher from the DT spot, so the pass rush in instantly improved, and in turn, the defensive secondary is improved as well. Then, if you draft a DE in the 1st round (e.g. Greg Hardy), our defensive line suddenly goes from no ability to rush the passer to being dominant, like the line of '06. Look at this D-line and tell me our defense wouldn't be dominant again? Brown-Haynesworth-Harris-1st round pick... Throw in a new DC (b/c Babich is awful as everyone seems to know except for Lovie), and we essentially have the Titans defense of this year, but probably better. I think personnel-wise, our players (with Haynesworth) are better than the Titans (at least at every spot except Safety), yet their defense is awesome. The Bears offense this year with the Titans defense would be a 12-win team at worst and probably favorites to go to the Super Bowl along with the Giants. Though knowing Angelo, this will never happen. So, not sure what I'm even doing writing this... -
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Dec 28, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) How much are they getting sued for? They're not good enough friends to ask that question... But through the grapevine, I heard they were offered a settlement somewhere between $3,000-$4,000.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 28, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) Ya, it's now up to your service provider to take legal action. Do you have any idea how likely it is that service providers will take action? Has there been anything said about that?

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 28, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) And they are idiots. This has to be one of the worst offensive groups in NFL history, and Turner has made this a middle of the road offense. Talk about getting the most out of what you have to work with. I'm with you on this one... And how the hell are we losing right now? Up 10-0 in the 2Q with the ball and next thing you know, it's 14-10. Typical Bears. Meanwhile, the Giants and Oakland need to step it up big time for us. -
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 28, 2008 -> 09:52 AM) That stinks considering the RIAA is no longer going to file lawsuits from what I have read. Really? That's great for illegal downloaders, but sucks for my buddies since they were probably some of the last to get sued.

Not quite as crazy, but when my sister was at a movie last year, the reverse kind of happened (no gun involved, but definite overreaction by the person being told to be quiet)... Some guy sitting a few people down from my sister told a woman in front of him to get off her phone a few times, and then she all of a sudden started freaking out and saying the guy kicked her seat and that her neck really hurt. She had to be taken out on a stretcher and the guy was arrested, even though my sister and others were trying to tell the cops the guy didn't do anything. The officers said they still had to take him to the station. I hate people sometimes.

Reading all this stuff about the horrible winter weather the past few weeks in Chicago and other northern areas has made me finally realize I don't want to move back north when I graduate. Ever since I moved to Tennessee 10 years ago, I've always wanted to move north when I was done with college. I love snow and miss seeing it. However, I like warm weather. I don't want to have to deal with bad weather conditions for a few months out of the year. It was awesome stepping outside yesterday and having it be 73 degrees with a slight breeze. I was in shorts and a t-shirt and felt like I could stand outside forever. It was a beautiful Texas day and it made me dread the end of Christmas break and having to head back to Knoxville, where it will undoubtedly be cold (for my standards) the next 2 months.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 27, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) Recommend Tanqueray/Tonics, enough of those will knock you on your ass. Ooooh, that hurts to think about. I had a really, really bad night once after drinking those. Haven't had a gin and tonic since...

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Dec 27, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) Ive heard about a few people getting Itunes gift cards now. Doesnt anyone steal music anymore? I know I still do. I do too, but not as much as I used to. I'm paranoid about getting caught since two of my friends were both sued by the RIAA. So now, I only download songs I really like.

PS3 NCAA Football 2009 Vineyard Vines Tie Sweater Grey hooded sweatshirt Forgetting Sarah Marshall Blu-ray West Wing Season 5 I was really surprised with how much good stuff i got, all of which I wanted. I normally get stuff I know I'll never use, but I will legitimately use everything I got this year.

So, Santa brought me my PS3 this morning. I'm pretty pumped. Got NCAA Football 2009 and even though college football is about to end, I don't care. I absolutely love that game, and am about to start a dynasty with San Jose State or some other s***ty team, bring them to about 4 or 5-star caliber and then jump to another rebuilding project. That's how I enjoy that game. Don't like being a badass team and then easily winning all my games. Once my team gets in the "A" overall range, I jump ship.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Dec 25, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) Only took 3 years but I got the World Series dvd from my son. Yeah, I got teary-eyed. Don't know why I've never thought about it, but that's a great gift idea. I think I may get that for my dad for his birthday in 2 months. Oh, and Merry Christmas everyone!

QUOTE (tommy @ Dec 25, 2008 -> 05:12 AM) I don't know how many of you workout, I started doing some heavy lifting about 3 months ago. It's a fact that music can help "pump" you up when in the gym, so I'm trying to put together a playlist that will be assisting me in the gym. I stumbled upon this website. They have a list on their own, I figure a lot of us here listen to different kind of music so we should be able to come up with a decent list. Anyone? In regards to that list, I can't listen to slow stuff when working out. e.g. "No Woman No Cry" by Bob Marley... There's no way I'd get "pumped up" in the least when listening to that song. I'm more of a rap guy when it comes to working out, so here is some of what's on my workout playlist: What You Know - T.I. That's Right - Three 6 Mafia My President is Black - Young Jeezy Hero - T.I. Get Buck in Here - DJ Felli Fel How We Do - The Game Where the Hood At? - DMX In Da Club - 50 Cent And Then What - Young Jeezy Hypnotize - Notorious BIG Big Things Poppin' - T.I. Locked Up - Styles P Hearts of Fire - John Cafferty (from Rocky IV) Back in Black and Thunderstruck - AC/DC Tryouts - Rudy Soundtrack Changes - Tupac Hip Hop Police - Chamillionaire

Golden Tate is a badass... How did we ever let him get out of the state? -
I'm hoping for a PS3 for Christmas. I really liked my XBOX, but Playstation just gives you more bang for your buck. That's why I asked for a PS3, and the fact that I feel sports games (which are really the only thing I play) are better on the PS3. Guess I'll know by tomorrow...

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) The unaired "24" pilot from 1994 (spoof, obviously). http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1788161 That was awesome. Just emailed it to a couple people who also love 24 like I do.

I was kind of nervous as I was driving through Dallas today, but then heard on the radio that the guy shot himself and is in the hospital... Glad he's not out there anymore.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 10:20 PM) Yeah, I was shocked it was on the list also I'll third that... I just don't think Bad Santa is a very funny movie, but lots of people do, so what do I know...

Heading down to Texas to visit my sister/brother-in-law and my brother. My brother-in-law and brother both recently got new jobs, so they don't really have the ability to take off extra days to come here, so my parents and I are heading there. Probably stop by this house too. Saw it the last Christmas I spent down there, 2 years ago. Most Christmas lights I've ever seen on one house.
