  1. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) I can't wait until my Trojans eat OSU's lunch. Maualuga>Beanie McKnight>Lauranitis Let the trash talking begin. USC over UGA in the title game. I really don't care either way who wins the USC-OSU game, but I do know it's gonna be a hell of a game to watch. Can't wait for it. I do think it will be a lot closer than most people believe. Oh, and I don't think you'll see a SEC team in the National Championship. Not b/c they don't have a good enough team, but rather b/c they have too many really good teams. I think it will be near impossible for 1 team to go through its entire SEC schedule without losing. But, the best team in the country this season will be a SEC school.
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 09:54 PM) Is this that rare for Chicago/area? QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 09:55 PM) yep I never realized tornado warnings were so rare in the Chicago area. Not sure why. Guess I've never actually heard of a tornado hitting Chicago, but it just seems like a place that would be somewhat prone to them. There's maybe 2 or 3 warnings a year in Memphis, but when I'm off at school in Knoxville, we never have them b/c the mountains break up any possible bad storms.
  3. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) I wouldn't mind having a look at him if he was available though. Absolutely. If he were available and the asking price was decent, he'd be a guy you'd have to look at considering Coop's track record. If he doesn't pan out, fine. We don't lose much. But if he does, then we've got another potential ace on our staff.
  4. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) Labor Union dispenses with Labor Day as Holiday. http://www.t-g.com/story/1449487.html Not sure how that will go over with the people of small town, southern Shelbyville...
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 01:44 AM) What's with the dislike for Grudzielanek? He mashes LHPs and his AVG alone is always hovering around .300. He'd be a great #2, #8, or #9 hitter. BTW- what does everyone think of possibly bringing back Garland, at the right price? He'll be 39 next year, meaning he's only a 1 year stopgap. I'd rather have someone a little more permanent like signing Hudson or Furcal to a 3 or 4 year deal. Oh, and before anyone says something about only needing a 1 or 2 year stopgap before Beckham comes up, you can't plan ahead for "prospects" that haven't played any minor league ball. Plus, with KW as our GM, you can sure as hell believe he'll be making moves for the team to win now as he always does, which means Beckham will be the last thing on his mind. If Beckham does tear it up, he wouldn't even be in the bigs until 2 years from now at the earliest, and at that point I'm sure Hudson or Furcal would still be very trade-able.
  6. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 01:40 AM) I don't like it. That bottom third has the potential to be really bad. I am a fan of all 3 of them, but all 3 of them have had 2008's they would like to forget(Anderson is doing a pretty good job in his role I suppose). I still want Ramirez at the bottom of the order. Not because I don't like him, but it balances out the lineup. Also with Roberts, the O's a f***tards, so it's going to cost a few good pieces to acquire him. I'd rather dish out the money(the Sox have it) for Hudson and/or Furcal. I never said that was the lineup I wanted. Just using the potential lineup joeynach threw out there, and pointing out that it's not a "really bad" lineup like fathom said. Yeah, it may not be great, but if the f***ing Twins can win with the lineup they have, then that team could win a bunch too. I agree with you that I'd rather keep Ramirez in the 7,8, or 9 spot b/c he really has thrived there, but again, just using what the other post gave. My personal favorite set of moves (which you may have 1st mentioned, Tony) would be signing Furcal and Hudson, and sticking Alexi in CF. The top of our lineup would be great with Furcal and O-Dog setting the table in the 1-2 spots followed by Quentin, Dye, and likely Thome. A bottom of the order consisting of Swisher, Alexi, and Fields has the potential to be really good. If Swish gets back to his career averages, and there's no reason to believe he won't, then you're going to have a 6 or 7 hitter that's hitting .250-.260 with 25-30 HR's, ~90 RBI, and an OBP of .380. That's pretty damn good. Alexi should go nowhere but up, and anything from Fields hitting 9th is gravy.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 12:43 AM) That's a pretty bad lineup. Swisher's offense is below average for a 1st baseman, and you know that Anderson will never get handed the starting spot in CF. Roberts Ramirez Quentin Dye Thome Pierzynski Swisher Fields Anderson I don't know, man. I wouldn't say that's a "pretty bad" lineup. That's definitely a lineup that could win a division if the pitching pitches like it did the 1st half of the season.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 11:02 PM) just any straight up gin and tonic (or GNT's as we call them) will mess you up, doesn't even have to be Tanqueray One of my worst nights ever came drinking gin and tonics. I guess I was puking by 10:30, but don't remember it. What I do remember is waking up the next morning and puking 4 times in about an hour before I had to go DJ at the campus radio station. Haven't touched a gin and tonic since, but I think I could be up for one again...

  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) There are 4 QB's from the Big 12 playing QB in the NFL Can you name them all? I got 'em all. I probably would have forgotten about Seneca except I figured since there were 2 Texas QB's and 1 ISU QB that I had already thought of, then there must be another Iowa St QB (since you go there). Took me about 10 more seconds, but then remembered... It is an interesting tidbit.
  13. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) Last year someone posted (I think it was on here) a master college football schedule complete with color helmets from every team. Has anyone seen this year's version anywhere? I'd attach the file, but SoxTalk doesn't like me attaching files, even when they are within the file size limitations. Okay, guess I should have just googled it. I found it and here is a link to it. This is a must for all college football fans. Or at least fans that watch more than just their team. 2008 NCAA Football Helmet schedule That's a pretty sweet schedule. I had one last year, but forgot about it till you brought it up, so thanks. Just printed out the SEC version.

If Jeff Corwin says he thinks its a racoon, like he has, then I tend to believe him.
  15. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 10:51 AM) Not sure if you're joking or not. In case you weren't, Richar was traded for Griffey. Looks like an excellent group of candidates for a 1-2 yr stopgap at 2nd base until Beckam is ready. Hudson Grudz Durham Gooch Ellis too, but I imagine he'll command a longer contract. Furcal would be great, except I bet someone will offer more years than we do. The only one I'd really be interested in out of that entire group would be Hudson. Durham would be alright for a 1 year deal. But, I want absolutely no part of Ellis or Grudz, and Gooch won't be brought back. If you want Ellis-like production, I guarantee you Getz could hit .235 with 10 homers and 30 rbi, like Ellis is doing so far this year. Same with Iguchi.
  16. Kind of makes me want to make it up for next year's game, though the small turnout is a turnoff since I'd be making a long trip to do so...
  17. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 12:40 AM) Is there a way for me to patten this idea?? hahahah. I really, really want that to happen. If that were to happen, our team would be sick nasty offensively and defensively...
  18. That was a nice win made even better by the fact that Griffey played great.
  19. What the f*** is that about??? Stealing 3rd with JD up and 2 on... I mean, the runner is going on anything hit with 2 outs anyway, so was is that important to get to 3rd? No.
  20. I think JD is due here. He's been too good recently to have an 0-5 game...
  21. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) Wow, all the old timers coming out tonight. Rafa, Kip, Winning Ugly. I'm having flashbacks. I was just thinking the same thing...
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) In a perfect world, Ozzie pulls Griffey Jr. after this at bat for Anderson. Good call.
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) Two guys with over 500 career homers on the same team homering in the same inning wouldn't be a first? I would think it would be.
  24. Well, uh, I never read this thread until I just now stumbled across it b/c I thought it was just some celebrity or something and didn't care why they were going to prison... But damn, I would be scared s***less in prison. Though, as a 5'8'' 145 lb dude, that probably makes sense. Glad it seemed to turn out okay since you got out in 6 days, J4L. Still can't believe one of my former fellow late-nighters went to jail though... lol
