"I could might..." I have some buddies from a small ass Tennessee town in my fraternity who say things like "I could might go to the store," and it always annoys me. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 02:00 AM) I want the "bigger half" Now, that's funny

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 04:57 PM) Is it bad that I probably watch more NBA Summer League than the actual NBA? Well, I know I don't really watch Summer League (just read the box scores), but no, nothing wrong with that. It seems like those guys give 110% all the time b/c they're trying their hardest to make it to the NBA.

Oh God... This is embarrassing for the Catholic Church, IMO. Being a Catholic myself and going thru a private, Catholic school system, I was always taught to have tolerance for all other religions. Like, it doesn't matter what "god" you believe in, as long as you truly believe in him and his teachings and practice your faith accordingly. I don't think any religion is any better or worse than another.

I'd make that trade in a heartbeat. And like Jas said, it would allow us to trade Jenks for a boatload of young talent.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 02:51 AM) Spider Man 3 was a disappointment to me. I have yet to see Spiderman 3, but I've heard it wasn't that good, and that disappoints me b/c I really liked the first 2 movies. I'm still gonna see it, though. Just gonna wait till it comes out on DVD.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 03:25 AM) No but I would deal him at the deadline. Fields is the future at 3B. Yep, if he has a great year, then he'll net a lot at the deadline. Who wouldn't want a Gold Glove-caliber 3B who can rake too?

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 09:04 PM) Can you do it after this season. New stuff -new season - new outlook. Let this site retire peacefully upon the conclusion of the 2007 campaign. IMHO, I still want to be known as an under 500 member, gives my nonsense thoughts some cred. I will say the "Member Number" and "Joined" listings are cooler than the post count...

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) The technical answer is yes, but if we did that any time we ever wanted to sync up the database or restore things we'd have to go in and manually edit them back (as a recount would just count the posts made and would not factor in our manual entry so it would be very labor intense considering the number of members). But what we could potentially do (and I say potentially because its not something I personally would want to do nor would I want anyone else to do it) would be to create a new category where people could put in there old post count (call it something) so that number would still kind of stay so to speak. I figure this site is still young (in terms of the net) so it won't take too long till we are celebrating many more great accomplishments and it will be great doing so on a server enviornment that works right. I say don't worry about post counts... If you're a good/reputable poster, others will know. They don't need a post count to see that. Though, I do understand why someone with like 20,000 posts would want to keep that # b/c they've spent a lot of time on this board. Oh, and I for one would really love an archive b/c in a few years it will be a lot of fun looking back on old posts and seeing who we wanted to trade/trade for, etc.

Official Recruiting Thread II
dasox24 replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) let me be the first to say it on the new thread... weber can't recruit. What's the over/under on "Weber can't recruit" posts in the future in this thread?... Is 1,000 a good number? lol -
WHAT!?!? I AM SOXTALK'S 114th GREATEST POSTER AND I DON'T WANT MY POST COUNT DELETED!!! QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) you guys do this for free, so whatever is easiest for you guys. In all seriousness, this is how I feel as well. Whatever you want to do, I'm for it. But, I do like the sound of it being faster, having a search, and seemingly better overall.

I'd say that 95% of the time, the book is gonna be better than the movie. Prime Example = Harry Potter books

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) Would anyone be opposed to us starting a new Recruiting Thread? This one's really been bogging down. We'll post a link to this one at the start of the new one. Not at all...

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 03:06 PM) Foster is a good get, but Filer is down to tOSU and ND so this has no relevance in that regard. I know I'm being the optimist here, but in all fairness, Filer said that those two schools were his Top 2 right now, but not his final 2. The longer he waits to commit, the better for Illinois to get in the picture.

f*** yes, I love Harry Potter. This is gonna be a great next two weeks with both the book and movie coming out.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 06:45 AM) DLS pitched in the Futures Game today. He struck out Jacoby Ellsbury (AAA currently, played a few games in the bigs this year as well) on 3 pitches, then gave up a no doubter to Justin Upton (AA) on a 93 MPH fastball. After that he appeared a little rattled and hit Evan Longoria (AAA). He got Ian Stewart to fly out (AAA), gave up a single to Steven Pearce (AA), and struck out Brent Lillibridge (AAA). His fastball sat in the mid 90s, topping out at 96, and had solid movement. He had a nice slurve (that's what I'm calling it at least), but only threw 2 pitches. He will need a third pitch to be a starter, but that's far from out of the question. He pounded the strike zone, almost throwing too many strikes (a la BMac). I put the level of the guys he faced in parentheses because he looked like he should be pitching to those hitters who are top prospects in AA and AAA while he is still in Low A. There doesn't seem to be any reason to keep him there. Let him go to Winston-Salem and see what happens. Jeez, that's a freakin' Who's Who of baseball prospects right there. I mean, I know that's what the Future's game is for, but I think it took reading that to realize how ridiculous it would be to have to face a real minor league team with that kind of lineup, lol... Anyway, great job by DLS today to keep the damage to 1 run against some darn good minor league hitters.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 04:49 AM) Kenny saying "buyer's mode" is different than a GM like Omar Minaya saying the Mets are in "buyers mode". I'm taking this to mean that if (or, more appropriatey, when) Kenny trades Dye, Iguchi and/or Contreras, he's looking for young players who can step in and play within the next year. I think he feels that he's built up a strong enough rotation to where the Sox won't have to go through a total "rebuilding" mode, so he wants guys like Richar who, at the very least, will be competing for a spot in 2008. I don't take this to mean the Sox will be offering Gio Gonzalez and Ryan Sweeney for Ken Griffey in an effort to save 2007. Yeah, that's the way I took it too. He's definitely not in it to get some old vets to help us compete this year, but rather interested in trading for young, ML-ready players. Like acquiring a Matt Kemp or Jacob Ellsbury.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 04:17 AM) I believe that says I was online that day at the bottom http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.soxtalk.com Soxtalk fun Wow, that's fun just looking back at some of the thread topics even though you can't read the thread. I love how back in 2002, Jason started a thread titled "I want Contreras." Well, my friend, you definitely got him, just a few years later...

Hell yeah, Phillies! That was pretty sweet that they ran out there like that, regardless of getting wet and possibly even injured (that wind was wicked). The Rockies players have some explaining to do...

That's some good stuff right there. Great job getting an interview set up with Egbert!

Sox interested in Orlando Hudson/Elijah Dukes
dasox24 replied to coolgreen13's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Well, I'm not sure why we'd acquire Hudson since we just got Richar, who (by all accounts) is not good enough defensively to play SS, so he's strictly a 2B. -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 12:45 AM) They already signed a deal for two more sequels. Eat it. I recall reading Soundwave was going to have a big role in the next movie. I'm trying to remember... which one was Soundwave?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 08:05 AM) Wow....Transformers was a real winner too. Between Die Hard and Transformers I've actually seen two straight very very entertaining movies. Must be a record cause I was about to write off movies as becoming horrible. I've been very selective over the last year in what movies I go see in the the theater. Since August, I've only seen Casino Royal, 300, Ocean's 13, and Transformers, and I must say they've all been winners. My days of seeing any decent looking movie are over b/c of how ridiculous ticket prices have gotten.

Well, that's just fantastic news. Here's to hoping he has a good rest of the year

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 04:40 AM) Stuff the motherf***in' ballot like we did for Pods. If we can get that fruit in the All-Star Game over Derek Jeter, we can at least triple whoever winds up being the runner up to us in this vote. We're pretty good at that kind of stuff, huh?
