  1. I never really worried too much about Liggins. I mean, I'd gladly accept his commitment, but I'm not too disappointed the Illini didn't get him. As previously said, Suggs/Shumpert/Humphrey/Dunigan are the four I think they have the best chance at getting, and the ones I care about most.
  2. I'd really rather not trade Paulie. I'd be fine if Thome would accept a trade to the Yanks, but Paulie has been great for our team and is a class act. He also took a hometown discount to stick around when he could have gotten more money from Baltimore and Anaheim. I think it would be a mistake to say "well, see ya later..." That would not make the organization look good and future players would less likely take the hometown discount to stay around b/c they'd figure they could get traded away in a year or two and then be screwed out of more money and a preferable desination. Now, I guess if he approved of the trade and was fine with it, then I'd be okay with it too. It would definitely have to bring us some young studs back like yall before me have mentioned.
  3. Well, wow. I go to work at 6:30 this morning, get home 6 hours later, and I've missed 22 pages on the possibility that Buehrle may be re-signed. Let's hope the Score is right and we lock him up. That would be absolutely wonderful news. Then, trade Contreras for sure, and either Vazquez (hopefully) or Garland (probably) for some good, young talent.
  4. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) Slaughter I must say that's a sweet name for a hard-hitting defensive player.
  5. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:32 AM) But there is a pretty good chance that draft pick will bust. And with the Sox who don't take Boras clients, that chance increases. Top 5 draft picks from 1998-2002. They say it takes at least five years to judge a draft, so I took the 2002 draft and the four before it. 14 out of the 25 picks are busts. 1998 1. Pat Burrell 2. Mark Mulder 3. Corey Patterson 4. Jeff Austin 5. JD Drew 1999 1. Josh Hamilton 2. Josh Beckett 3. Eric Munson 4. Corey Myers 5. BJ Garbe 2000 1. Adrian Gonzalez 2. Adam Johnson 3. Luis Montanez 4. Mike Stodolka 5. Justin Wayne 2001 1. Joe Mauer 2. Mark Prior 3. Dewon Brazelton 4. Gavin Floyd 5. Mark Texeira 2002 1. Bryan Bullington 2. BJ Upton 3. Chris Gruler 4. Adam Loewen 5. Clint Everts I wouldn't really call Mark Prior a bust. He dominated until getting hurt, which isn't his fault. As for Floyd, he has pitched brilliantly down in AAA. The jury is still out on him until we see what he can do up in the majors. Nontheless, point taken. I still don't care, though. I'd rather not win an extra 10 games and end up with the chance of getting a stud than none at all. Plus, like others have said, a high pick like that would be a lot more valuable in trades and we all know KW likes trading his prospects.
  6. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:24 AM) If LAD were to offer Billingsley for Dye straight up in a couple of weeks if Billingsley keeps sucking would you do it, knowing that he'd been bad? I doubt that they'd even make that offer but it is a hypothetical question. Yep, no doubt about it.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 12:56 AM) Ellen Barkin's boobs looked fine. Oh, no doubt. She's definitely a "cougar"... QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:23 AM) Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie was on HBO today...still awesome, 12 years later! Oh wow, brings back memories... I've actually watched a few episodes of Power Rangers on alluc.org in the last couple weeks. Good stuff.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:59 AM) All you ever hear around here is how you can't get elite talent like Andrew Miller or Justin Verlander unless you have absolutely terrible seasons and get a top 10 pick which the Sox haven't had in forever. So this is season is a golden opportunity to tear apart an old, expensive team as well as lose 90+ games and pick up a top 5 pick. All of which should make this team better in the long run. I'm so greatful for 2005 and hell even the strong attempt the organization made to go for it in 2006 but I'm about ready to dismantle this club and build it back up from the ground up. We, the fans, got to see a WS victory followed by a solid 90 win ballclub now it's time to rebuild this organization for the future and I have no problem with it. So the Sox have to go what? 64-25 the rest of the way to reach 95 victories? How does that seem attainable to anybody? Just about sums up my exact thoughts.
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:23 AM) I'm not crazy about these wins. Yeah, I must agree. I don't mind winning as long as KW realizes we won't make the playoffs. The worst thing that could happen would be KW keeping the team intact if we got on a little winning streak, and then missed the playoffs. It would do nothing to solve one of our biggest problems: age... We are not a young team by any means, and I really want us to bring in some young, quality talent by the trade deadline.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:27 AM) I want Richar, Sweeney, and Floyd up in July. I agree on the latter two for sure. Richar, if we trade Iguchi or Uribe, bring him up. Otherwise, keep getting him playing time down in Charlotte b/c I don't think Ozzie would play him over Iguchi or Uribe. Btw, I just noticed the "Best thread ever" link in your sig, and I love it. Just read all 11 pages of that thread, and it brings back some great memories.
  11. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 12:55 AM) Garrett Goebel has Illinois is his top four along with West Virginia, OSU, and Michigan. Illinois is back in after not being in a week and ND is out. With Pocic going to Illinois, I think Garret took a second look and his visit over the weekend was very good. I think Illinois/OSU are the favs (which is pretty much widely speculated) now. I give Illinois a great shot and if they get Goebel, I would not be surprised to see Filer go too, who is close with both Pocic and Goebel. Zook is da man. Yep, and supposedly, he's a bit more down on OSU than before b/c they may have pushed him a little too hard to commit when he visited, and he didn't like that. Hopefully, Pocic pulls him in along with Filer. That would be one hell of a coup in-state. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 01:09 AM) i am glad to see it, he has some big time influence too with Goebel as I mentioned above, Filer and Foster is his good friend too. Foster wants to committ to Illinois, but wants to wait till the end of the week to see if ND or Michigan offers. I am not worried about ND with him because he say earlier he does not want to go to another Catholic school, but Michigan is always a tough school to beat. I still like Illinois with him. He is just plain and simple a sick athlete, 6'4", 225 lbs. and runs a 4.4-40 yard dash. Sign him up as a Martez Wilson hyrbid player, OLB/DE. This recruiting class for Illinois could be even deeper than last year's. Zook is the man. Good thing I'm a Tennessee fan and can still root for Illinois since they rarely compete for the same players. We'll get our fair share of 4 and 5 star recruits here at UT... If I attended ND, for example, it may be more of a problem.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 10:28 PM) It looks like the Cubs will be paying most of the contract. So essentially the Sox could have dealt Robert Valido for Jones and cash (cause Valido is no different than Abecrombie as far as I'm concerned). Personally I'd have loved to have been the club that made this deal. Well, I guess if all we had to give up was a Valido-type and the Cubs covered his contract, then I'd be fine with it. But, I'm just glad he got traded b/c that's one less trade rumor we have to worry about.
  13. Conan O'Brien and Jim Carrey discuss a little quantum physics. http://www.boreme.com/boreme/funny-2007/co...-quantum-p1.php How do you get the video to play right here in this thread?
  14. Anyone else kinda worried we won't re-sign Peanut... I mean, speculation has been that we'd re-sign Tillman and let Vashar go b/c we wouldn't pay them both. Will we pay them both now? I think Vashar would have been more easily replaced, so I hope we don't let him go.
  15. Yeah, thank god this Jones rumor didn't come true. Not at all the type of player I'd want to acquire. The money we would have had to pay him will be better distributed among finding relievers and filling other needs.
  16. Just watching Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN, and Steve Phillips (filling in for Golic) was talking about how KW goes about trading: Basically says, "I want Player X. What will it take to get him?" Phillips also mentioned how most of the conversations they had involved KW asking, "What would it take to get Jose Reyes?" Man, how awesome would it be to have Reyes now?
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:33 AM) Hopefully KW was watching Baseball Tonight just now. They pretty much pinned the Sox as the worst team in the MLB. Rightfully so. We're only 2.5 games ahead of the Royals right now and falling... THE ROYALS!!! Never in a million years would I have imagined we'd be as bad as the Royals this year.
  18. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:25 AM) Jordan Danks would be a good guess. He is likely to go top 15, right?, depending on how he does this season. And the White Sox did draft him a couple years ago, and his brother is on this team. Probably a Boras client as well though. Jordan Danks is definitely a prime candidate for the Sox. We've already drafted him once and (obviously) his brother is on the team. We have a very good relationship with the family too. As of now, he'd probably go in the 15-25 range, but depending on the type of season he has, he could go higher. Realistically, if we end up with a Top 5 pick, the only way we'd draft Jordan is if we get a lower pick from a team that signs JD, Buerhle, or Gooch, assuming they're Type A Free Agents.
  19. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 03:55 AM) If we suck so badly the rest of the season that we get a top 5 pick in next year's draft, then what would you prefer seen done? would you rather go for a 5 tool position player, or a pitcher with stuff that compares to Verlander? IMO the only way that I don't take the pitcher is if the some of the players on the team are traded for a pitcher with that kind of ability. I'd like to see a young pitcher break through to the majors with the Sox that has serious stuff. I haven't seen that for a while but am crossing my fingers with Poreda Does anyone have an idea who the top pitchers and position players are in the 2008 draft, or is it impossible to know this early? I've been thinking about this recently too. If we don't improve, we'll have our first Top 10 (probably Top 5) pick in 17 years. Right now we have the 5th worst record in the league, IIRC. However, in a matter of a few games we could have the worst record in the league. Anyway, here's a little preview of the 2008 draft: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...7&fext=.jsp
  20. Awesome report on the Knights game. Thanks a ton!
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 01:45 AM) But lets say the Cardinals finish with one of the 15 worst records in baseball then in the offseason they sign both Mark Buehrle and Torii Hunter. The Sox could end up with a sandwich pick and a 3rd rounder as compensation. EX. The Giants finished with one of the 15 worst records in baseball last year but ended up signing 2 type A free agents in Barry Zito and Dave Roberts this offseason. The A's got the Giants' 2nd rounder and the Padres got their 3rd. Yep, that could happen, which would suck. However, I don't think there are too many FA's this offseason that would be considered better than Buehrle. More than likely, we'd be getting the 2nd rounder in that type of scenario, unless the team that signs Mark also signs Ichiro.
  22. I love the fact that he's inducing a lot of ground outs and k's so far. Keep it up, Aaron!
  23. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 01:13 AM) I suspect both qualify as Class A free agents, meaning that if we offer them arbitration and they sign with another team we get a first rounder and a sandwich pick. However, if the team's first round pick is in the top 10 or 15 spots, we'd get a second rounder instead. Correct. And yeah, if a team has a pick in the 1-15 range, then we'd get their second and a sandwich pick. If it's 16 or after, we'd get their 1st round pick and a sandwich pick.
  24. QUOTE(shipps @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) How long does it go numb? And about where is it? Well, I don't know exactly, but the spot I learned about is around the chin. The guy wouldn't show me b/c he said it's not to be learned like that (I should go thru extensive training, which I'm not, lol). As for how long, I didn't even think to ask, and don't know how to get in touch with him. The guy was a trainer at a lacrosse camp I was working, which is now over.
