  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) Danks will be a guy the Sox go hard after, and I would almost guarantee it. The franchise is like in love with the Danks family. You're right about that. And, the Danks family loves the Sox too.

  3. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) BTW, I hope we get Glenn Foster cause he is a beast. Yep, supposedly Pocic is good friends with Foster too, so that should definitely help the Illini's cause. This class should be very good.
  4. How many of you have never driven without having alcohol in you? I don't care if it's 1 beer. If you've never driven with even the littlest bit of alcohol in your system, then you can talk. Otherwise, shut up. I know I've had a few beers and then driven home. Not nearly enought to make me drunk, but I've done it a couple times, and I bet 90% of you have done it too. If you want the Bears to cut him, fine. If he really does get charged with a DUI, then I would be supportive if the Bears did cut him. However, for those that are saying he's a bad person, etc., for driving under the "slightest" influence, that's just not fair.
  5. I just learned how to make someone's arm go numb by just hitting a certain pressure point on their bicep. That's some crazy Kung Foo s*** right there... Which brings me to my next point: Pressure points are rediculous for the fact that they can paralyze the entire human body if you hit the right one(s) in the face.
  6. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 03:25 AM) I could root for him as a Cardinal... So could I... I'll always root for Mark, unless of course he ends up with the Yanks, BoSox, or any AL Central team, though the latter would be pretty unlikely.
  7. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 01:56 AM) Philadelphia the organization thought they'd hosed us. Fans, too, but the organization especially. You keep saying the Phillies' organization thought they hosed us, and I'm wondering how you know this. Do you know someone in their org? I mean, I'm sure they did think they got the better end of the deal or else they wouldn't have done it. Most trades are like that. Normally, both teams think they've come out ahead. Unless a player forces your hand or you have to cut payroll, GM's normally don't go into trades thinking, "I hope I can trade Player A for something less than what he's worth."
  8. I must say that Fields has made my first game watching on MLB Extra Innings a great one to watch! That was a sweet HR
  9. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 06:19 PM) Buehrle is on top, the 10 CGs give it away!!! That's what I was thinking too. If all he had shown was that stat, I would've known. And I agree that 5/80 is perfect. 5/100? No chance.
  10. I know someone that has listened to the same CD in his car for the last couple months. And it's a Peter, Bjorn, and John CD to boot. Who? Right. On another note, I just found out that I've had MLB Extra Innings since the start of the year and didn't know it. However, with the way we're playing this year, maybe that's not a bad thing.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:56 PM) Not Mets related but Schmidt is going to have surgery and is out indefinitely. Could make things more interesting on the Buehrle front. Oh, it definitely does make things more interesting. I like what the Dodgers' farm system has to offer, and now that they need a SP and a bat, both of which we could give, they seem like a perfect team to deal with.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:19 PM) Trade Dye to the Dodgers for Matt Kemp and Buehrle to Devil Rays for Elijah Dukes. Well, at least no one would mess with our team if we had those two around
  13. Even if we were to turn things around somehow and make the playoffs, it still doesn't mask one fact we've learned this year: We're old and need to bring in young guys to make sure that all of a sudden we aren't going to become awful once our older guys' skills diminish.
  14. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) How'd Jon Adkins work out as well as the Jon Berry? Well, to our credit, we though we were acquiring a different guy: Barry, not Berry.
  15. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) Minor issue since he was publicly considered a rent-a-player when we acquired him, but the extension with Garcia was reached only 10 days after the Sox traded for him. Yeah, but he was still a rent-a-player at the time we acquired him. It doesn't matter if we signed him to an extension 10 days later. If we trade Buehrle to another team, then they'd be acquiring a rent-a-player, but what's from stopping them re-signing him 10 days later too? Nothing. Teams would give up a lot for Mark b/c of 2 reasons: 1) Most teams have a "win now" emphasis and getting Buehrle in the offseason doesn't help that cause; and 2) Whoever acquires him would have the first chance of re-signing him.
  16. Happy Birthday, SnB!
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 04:11 AM) If they were truly up for it the Sox could sell off Mackowiak, Cintron, Erstad, Podsednik, Contreras, Iguchi and Dye at the break without leading the fans to believe they're going into rebuilding mode simply by re-signing Buehrle. And if they really wanted they could save up all that money saved by only paying these players for 3-4 months of work and put it towards the 2008 payroll, talk about sending the fans the right message. No doubt. I don't think any White Sox fan would be upset if we got rid of all those guys, especially if we re-signed Buehrle. The way they're performing right now, they might as well be considered dead weight that don't provide much more than some young guns we could bring in. If we have some prospects (Sweeney, Fields, guys we trade for) starting/getting playing time next year, at least they'd bring some swagger and energy even if they don't have better stats. We'd go through some growing pains, but at least the team would be fun to watch.
  18. QUOTE(shipps @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 02:48 AM) I have a sunburn that has put pockets of fluid on my shoulders.Painful to say the least,I will probably sleep in about a week. Good god man. Pockets of fluid? The worst burn I've ever had was a nice shade of purple on my shoulders. That must hurt like a b****. Hope ya feel better.
  19. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 02:42 AM) I would expect at least one player who has had some success at the ML level if I'm going to deal Buehrle. I kind of doubt that Minaya would do this, but I'd try to package Mark and Fields for Wright and a high-tier prospect. Reyes is an attractive option as well, but I don't think that he'd be under our control for as long. Man, if we could get David Wright in a Buehrle trade, I don't even know what I'd do. But, before I go any further, there's no way in hell the Mets would give up Wright for Buehrle even if they got Fields back. Trading away a key position player like Wright kinda defeats the purpose of adding a pitcher like Mark to make a run at the World Series.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 02:40 AM) At this point Richar just doesn't strike me as a starter caliber player especially for next season, more of an Ozuna type. I kinda thought that about Richar too, but if the Sox did, then why trade for an Ozuna type when we have Ozuna on the team? He should be 100% next year. I don't think anyone would condone trading Aaron Cunningham for Pablo Ozuna, so I hope we think he can be more than just a Utility player. Oh, and good to hear Betemit could hold his own at SS.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 02:36 AM) I am, but I'm still gonna see it. From clips and scenes, it still looks kick ass, IMO. I agree. When I went to see Ocean's 13 with some of my buddies, we were all like "Holy S***! That looks so badass." Definitely plan on seeing it when it comes out. I'm also curious about that Will Smith movie coming out in December, I believe, where he's supposedly the last man on Earth. Looked like it could be pretty good. I mean, it does have Will Smith in it afterall.
  22. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 02:23 AM) Oh good things are a'happenin' Jermaine Dye over the past 5 games is putting up a .389/.450/.778/1.228 line w/ 3 R, 3 RBI, 4 2B and a HR. That's right, he's heating up. James Loney crashes into a concrete wall today and messes up his knee as well as his head, he could be out for a while. Just one less potential power threat for LA. The Dodger's lack of a competent power threat is reaching critical status. A .378 team slugging percentage just isn't going to cut it. Wilson Betemit is expendable with 4-5 guys around to play 2B, SS and 3B next season. His .211 BA will probably scare the lot of ya but that's because you're not looking at his .350 OBP and .800 OPS, shame on you. He'd look damn sexy at 2B for the next 3-4 seasons. I'm sorry but the Sox and Dodgers hooking up and swapping Dye and ??? for Betemit and Billingsley is just making far too much sense at this point. I must admit that I think yall have convinced me about Betemit since this trade idea was first brought up. I'm still not crazy about the fact that he may be 27 years old, though. Anyway, can he play SS well? I ask this b/c since we just picked up Richar (who sounds like a 2B, not a SS anymore), we don't have a void at 2B. If we were to acquire two Second Basemen, then what would have been the point of trading a young prospect like Cunningham? If Betemit could play SS pretty well, then I'd be intrigued by a MI of Betemit and Richar next year.
  23. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 02:07 AM) Johnson may not have "looked" good but his peripheral numbers (K/9 and WHIP) simply blow Contreras away. Contreras has been every bit as bad as he suggested -- look at the K/9 K/BB ands WHIP numbers. By the end of the season that ERA is going to be way over 5. To move Contreras, the Sox will have to eat most of contract and expect to to get back nothing. That's just the reality of the situation. I think if we ate his contract we could get something pretty decent. i.e. an A-ball type player who's a few years away, but has the potential to be something very good. Afterall, it looks as if the market for pitching will be very weak this year, and if we were to put Contreras and Buerhle on the market, they'd be the best two available (assuming FLA doesn't put Dontrelle Willis on the trade block). Plus, Jose has great playoff experience, and I think a team that is desperate for SP would love to acquire Contreras.
  24. Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there!
