2014-2015 NFL Football thread

After reading this page, I had to scroll back to the top to remember which thread I clicked on... Not that I care that it went off-topic, but thought it was kind of funny. Also, I too love Anna Kendrick. Pitch Perfect was great. -
The condo that I rent flooded last Friday when a pipe burst in the condo above us. Luckily, I was working from home and my roommate was home for lunch at the time, so we both told our bosses we were done for the day and frantically tried keeping it from doing too much damage. I mean, water was pouring through our ceiling in the laundry room (which is off the kitchen). We built a barricade as best we could and I bailed water with a 5 gallon bucket for over an hour while my roommate had a big mop that he was using to push the water away from the hallway to our bedrooms. Pretty funny scene actually when looking back on it. My place isn't livable at all. We can't use our kitchen, laundry room, or living room. Not a huge deal for me b/c I travel Monday-Thursday for work. But my roommate has to deal with it, and I will too on the weekends. Contractors came by and said all the wood floors would have to be ripped out, a large portion of the ceiling replaced, bottom cabinets replaced, and dry wall in spots. But my landlord is being fairly sketchy. He wouldn't return calls all weekend. Finally got back to us today and said he'd compensate for having to go out to eat, etc. Not sure I really trust him though. I assume it's best to get this in writing. But if we can't and he bails, can we stop from paying rent? Any alternatives? I mean, I'm not paying to live in a construction zone while not having a working laundry room or kitchen. Btw, we were told it would be a month of work by the contractors. I can't see how that's possible but if it is that long, that's going to be a big pain.

I'm in Milwaukee right now. After my drive back to the hotel, I decided that if I ever lived in the North, I'd spend the extra money for a car with 4 wheel drive. Probably a Tahoe.

Very cool. I'm looking forward to watching this every week. Great work.

Excellent. Fox/Gase/Fangio is pretty awesome. The Broncos firing Fox couldn't have worked out any better for us. -

I cannot believe Decamillis is getting the ST coach job in Denver. I mean, I can believe it because the NFL is such a good ole boys network where everyone just hires retreads. But my god. He was the worst coach in all of football last year. That dude should barely be helping out a high school football team. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 11:26 AM) Presume with Fangio coming on board, it means we will not be spending money on Paea. Can't imagine he's a fit in a 3-4. That depends on whether it'll be a 1-gap or 2-gap 30 front. If it's a 2-gap, then yeah, we'll need a monster in the middle and Paea wouldn't fit. If it's a 1-gap (like the Texans ran under Wade Phillips), then Paea would be big enough. All of their DTs at that time were around 300 lbs. I think a 1-gap 3-4 could be a real possibility, at least in year 1, to help aid the transition. Plus, it makes it easy to switch back and forth from a 30-front to a 40-front nickel/dime package because the personnel is very similar for both. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 06:10 PM) Recruit flips from Texas to Auburn today, immediately instagrams a handful of cash. Eventually this will catch up to Auburn, right? You would think. But they've been getting away with it as long as anyone.

I'm happy. I'm very curious/excited to see who he brings in as assistants. I like the possibility of either Mike Smith or Dennis Allen as DC. And possibly Gase following him as OC. Would be a very legit HC/OC/DC trio. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 10:36 AM) I don't want him being the leader but as long as you have a HC who controls overall discipline like Fox, than I think the combo is great. I wonder if Maronne ends up being our OC (if Fox gets hired). Otherwise he'll just be on the sidelines. Looks very unlikely that he is going to get a job (unless he ends up in Atlanta). Raiders haven't been on his radar and now with the Niners hiring Gase, Jets hiring Bowles, and the Bronco's focused on Kubiak, there really are zero places for Maronne to go. I think Fox as the HC with Maronne as the OC and someone like Schwartz as the DC would be amazing. I agree with everything you said. Though I think there is a decent chance Marrone sits out next year. He's making $4M next year no matter what he does. That could be a good reason to take a year off, re-evaluate how he runs a team, learn from other coaches, etc., and then try to a HC job again in 2016. But yeah, a Fox-Marrone-Schwartz coaching trio would be really good. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 10:28 AM) The combination of him and John Fox on defense would be fantastic. Absolutely. I really hated Schwartz when he was in Detroit, but I could look the other way if he was our DC. -
I'm not a fan of Collins at 7 overall. To me, he's a guy you take in the mid-teens, and even then, I'm not 100% sure on him. If you take a Safety in the Top 10, he better be an Eric Berry or Sean Taylor quality of player. Landon Collins isn't on that level.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) How long until Manning is a coach? If anyone in the league could be a player-coach, it would be Peyton. Not that that would actually happen. Just saying that he'd be the most likely to be able to handle it. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) Nice to see the Big Ten win a National Championship again. Playoffs were a big success to me, but would like to see it go to 8 teams. Hopefully SEC love fest of voters will change with crappy showing this bowl season. What? The SEC had more bowl wins (7) than any other conference, and several games that were losses could have gone either way (LSU-ND, Auburn-Wisconsin). The top teams didn't fare well, but it's the deepest conference in college football. When Florida is your 12th best team, you're pretty good. I'm far from a "SEC guy," and I openly root against SEC teams, but facts are facts. Let's not act like because the Big 10 has 1 legit team that the whole conference is awesome now. Oh and congrats, Rock. I still can't believe OSU beat Alabama much less won a national title. I can't imagine how you're feeling right now. -

Whoa. Now Vic Lombardi (from Denver CBS affiliate) saying the entire staff has been let go. I guess that rules out the Gase being promoted to HC idea. -

I don't think firing John Fox is the answer. I wouldn't mind the Bears taking a look. He's been to the Super Bowl with 2 different teams, so he had plenty of success without Peyton. It wouldn't be your typical retread where a guy loses control of his team and the season falls apart, etc. The guy just went 12-4 and his starting QB had a torn quad. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 06:03 AM) It was like 18 out this morning when I left the house and it felt like spring to me. I landed in Milwaukee this morning and it was 17 degrees. It felt amazing compared to last week. I guess it's all relative because if I was in Atlanta and it was 17 degrees, I'd probably be annoyed.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) That's fine. I guess you and I have a different interpretation then. In my opinion, the ball is obviously caught and controlled, Bryant extends his arm for end zone, changing the course of the controlled ball, and it's jarred as it hits the ground after it was possessed and caught. Clearly the rules are the rules, and according to those rules - it was the correct call, so it's moot. Either way I hate the damn packers. Go seahawks My thoughts exactly. It's unfortunate for the Cowboys. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) I think the standard for "too cold" is a geographical thing. I don't think Chicago/Milwaukee schools close for the temperatures we are having here. I see what you're saying. Probably very true.

This better work out. This is a guy I did practically no research on leading up to our interview process. Not sure what to think right now. -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) In my mind this is more of a geographical than generational thing. The last 8 years I've lived 300 miles farther south than I've ever lived before. I chalk it up to, "people down here are just wusses compared to people farther north." Milwaukee schools have been closed the last 2 days because of it being too cold. I don't think it's a geographical thing. It's definitely a "I don't want to get sued for a kid getting frostbite" thing, as Jenks mentioned above.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) Correction...it is not snowing here and it is 80 degrees f*** its cold here. I miss traveling to Southern California (even if it was the Inland Empire). Well, I don't miss the long travel days or the redeye flights home every week. But I do miss the weather.
