QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 04:38 AM) This is actually kind of weird Baseball Reference, the Dodgers website, TSN, The Baseball Cube and Wikipedia all say he'll be 26 in November but Yahoo, Fox Sports and ESPN say he'll be 27 in July. I don't know how the hell old he is. Heck, for all we know, he could be even older than he's listed on those sites. I guess that's just the risk you take dealing with foreign players who can much more easily change their birth certificates and the like than a player from the U.S. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 04:43 AM) Interesting. According to Betemit and his lawyer, Wilson is 25 and born in November of '81 but according to the Braves his uncle presented them with a birth certificate in 1996 that said he was born in July of '80. Hmm... interesting. This could mean two things. They originally lied and made him seem older, so he could sign a contract with the Braves. If he was 15, I don't think he could have. However, they just could be lying now, so he has more value being younger.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 02:26 AM) He's 25 and has been a league average offensive player for the past 2 seasons. If he can play 3B then he can play 2B, it's pretty much the easiest defensive position on the field, even if he's average defensively it'll be a seamless transition from Iguchi. He has big time power potential and is starting to develop some plate discipline. Well, I stand corrected at least on the performance issue. I have a friend who is a Braves fan and never liked Betemit, so I kinda just assumed his stats sucked. My bad. I normally don't make mistakes like that. However, according to ESPN, he'll be 27 in July. Are they wrong?

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 01:12 AM) what's the love-fest for Betemit about? I like him as well, but he has just been bad since the second half of last year. And why do you think he could automatically play 2B? He has played a total of maybe 10 games there. Also, I seriously question his work ethic and what his range would be like at 2B as has looked fat and slow. He is listed at 6'3" and 230 lbs. Sounds more like a corner infielder to me. The only intriguing thing about him his that he has drawn 23 walks in 96 AB's. But I am not sure what to think about that as he has never been a walk man to begin with. I'm not sure. I'm not a big fan at all. He's 27 (not exactly a young prospect) and hasn't done well in most of his major league career. I'd rather just resign Iguchi to play 2B.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) Last minute, you still got a couple hours at least. My pick is gonna be: Josh Smoker. BTW, rumors are saying that Porcello will be slipping very far, possibly to the Yankees, but there is an unspecified team that might take him before the Yankees and its supposed to be the Rangers. All this is via Baseball America. I honestly don't know what I would do if he slipped to the Sox and we didn't draft him. He has got all the tools to be a #1 starter. I don't care about Boras, but if you can get this type a talent at 25, you take him and deal with Boras. I agree completely. I understand the only reason he might fall is b/c of his huge contract demands, but the money is out there to give to him. Like you said, a player of his talent is rarely around at 25, and since we haven't had a Top 10 pick in 17 years (to get guys of that caliber) then I think we would need to snag him if the opportunity presents itself.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) Dry rub is the only way IMHO. Memphis-style short ribs, get the dry rub from Rendezvous. Nice... You, my friend, know your stuff.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) By name? Oh, hell no... I meant by face

That list was awesome. A lot of those are just so true about the actor they're talking about. I was surprised I knew all but about 2 or 3 guys.

I can stop looking at Whitewashed's avy, but Rock's is a close 2nd. EvilJester always has awesome ones too.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) I'm ashamed to admit that I liked the drafting of Fizer at the time. I did too. But, what was not to like at the time? I know we already had a PF, but I really think he was the best available player (at the time) and he really dominated the college game. He looked to be a good one in an incredibly weak draft.q

As a Tennessee student/fan, this makes me a very happy person to see Florida lose such a force in the coaching world. Chimpy, I think we're feeling the same way right now... Anyway, FL will still be good, but not a powerhouse like recently.

Nice pics... Looks like a really fun game to attend.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ May 31, 2007 -> 06:49 AM) I didn't know where else to put this, but it's a pretty good video with some of the guys. O'Connor is a die hard White Sox fan. haha, that's some pretty funny stuff. Makes me miss playing organized sports...

I hadn't seen this yet, but it looks like Morales was signed early in May, so I may have missed it... http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines I remember Morales being pretty good back in '06. I'll be looking to see how he did this past year (probably pretty well or else we wouldn't have signed him, lol). I just read on BA that a scout referred to him as a "tool shed", haha. Nice to hear. Anyway, he batted .422 with 4 HRs, 19 RBI, 4 triples, 10 doubles, 37 runs, and 30 SBs. Looks like a leadoff hitter. Anyone know anything about the other two?

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ May 30, 2007 -> 05:22 AM) Tony is not a freshman, he is a junior and he will probably be gone after this year. His problem in the past has always been K's, but he has seemed to got them down this year. Also, if a person told you at the start of the season that Tony Thomas was goin to be hitting in the upper .400s for most of the season and would be the ACC player of the year, they would be lying. With that being said, it was a great pleasure watching him play this year. He still has a shot at breaking the FSU doubles record in one season. Well then, that settles that about Mr. Thomas. I'm a lot more intrigued by the possiblity of drafting him. Anyone know where he's projected to go?

Wow, Ryan Rote really had himself a night in relief. And not a good night for the Fields, Sweeney, Anderson trio, particularly Fields. I guess Russell must have been just lights out until that 9th inning. Oh well, he pitched one helluva game. And nice to see Carter and Cunningham just doing their thing, lol.
-
Definitely Herbert Perry

Underclassmen can't be drafted if they attend a DI, DII, or DIII school. JUCO, NAIA, etc. can be drafted, I believe. So Tony Thomas will be at FSU for at least 2 more years. Thanks for posting this. Any info about players is appreciated since there's so little coverage on the draft.

That's awesome to have so many guy's doing well recently. Good to see 'em gettin some pub.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 28, 2007 -> 06:08 AM) You'll regret giving up that stud. I'd rather deal Noc/Sefo or even f***ing Hinrich. Deng, Thomas are really the only no-nos for me. Gordon I like alot too but if you get a Kobe, then see ya Gordon. I feel the same way, though I think the Lakers would probably want Tyrus in the trade. I would love a deal of Gordon, Noc, and the 9th pick for Kobe. The starting lineup would be sick: Hinrich Kobe Deng Brown(if re-signed) or TT Wallace

Here's a Catcher that could be an intriguing pick. Not first round material, but Top 10 round for sure. He doesn't have as much experience playing baseball as most prospects, but he has done very well (Big 10 MVP). Plus, he goes to Illinois, so I know that would go over well with a lot of people here.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 25, 2007 -> 02:30 AM) A quick look at the context makes it much less impressive. Carolina isn't exactly a good double A team. They're batting .240 as a team and lead the league in strikeouts by a WIDE margin. Gio's pitched 11 innings against them this season. 3 hits, 2BB, 21K 0 ER. Damn, I'm sure Carolina doesn't want to have to face Gio anymore this season. Then again, from the looks of it, they don't do well against any pitcher, lol... Pretty solid night all around for Sox prospects.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ May 24, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) nadia is the woman sayid was in love with when he was in iraq. she was a part of his storyline in the first season. she's also turned up in locke's flashback, and then was the arab woman who charlie came to the defense of in his flashback episode last week. Oh wow, I completely forgot about her. Thanks Doc.
