  1. Can an mod or admin edit "Harrel" to "Harrell" in the title here as well as in the post in the FutureSox Forum? Thanks.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 02:07 AM) Good luck with the interview, bro. Thanks, man. I guess I better stay away from Whisler, though...
  3. Jason posted this is the Pale Hose Forum, but I thought I'd put it here too b/c I know we have some people on here that might not necessarily follow the big league club, but do follow the Barons.
  4. Yeah, that Simmons article was a great read for a newcomber like me, but that doesn't mean I'm going with who he says. I haven't decided yet. I thought I liked Chelsea until I read about how they spend a ton of money too like Man United, so now I don't know. Anyway, one team I know for sure that I'll root for is Benfica in the Portuguese SuperLiga. I love that team!
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) Isnt there a Ruby Tuesdays by Woodfield Mall... I know there is one by a mall in the suburbs. Woodfield Mall... Isn't that where IKEA is? Or am I thinking of another place? I'm don't live in Chicago, but visit relatives in Elgin and Algonquin (sp?) at least once a year, sometimes more. Anyway, if that's the correct place, then that's a really nice shopping area. As for Sonic, we have a lot of them down South. Pretty much wherever you go, you can find a Sonic. I really like their grilled cheeses, actually. I never get a burger there b/c you can get burgers at any fast food joint, but not a grilled cheese sandwhich. Also, I love that they have Mozzarella Sticks. What other fast food place can you get those? I don't think anywhere. And, to top it off with a nice dessert, they have great Blasts (basically a Blizzard or McFlurry, but bigger and better), Milkshakes, and Slushes.
  6. It was my pleasure, guys. I love doing this sort of thing, so I'm just thankful for yall giving me the chance to help out.
  7. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) Well ... this is not entirely accurate. Duane Shafer has has been in charge of the draft for years and years. Doug Laumann was the chief scout who "ran" the draft for a few years but he still reported to Shafer. Then Laumann was reassigned due to an internal conflict, I'm not sure if he's still with the team or not. If he is it's in a low profile scouting role. Dave Wilder is in charge of player development ... basically the minor leagues. He does some scouting but not much at the amateur level, he does some minor league scouting but only because he sees so many minor league games. Ah, okay. Well, shoot, I guess I got Wilder and Laumann mixed up. Thanks for the correction!
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 06:18 AM) It's really nice to see him becoming a prospect again. Good thing. I thought I really screwed him over by putting him in my avatar 2 years ago. If you remember, that's when he started to decline. I guess it's out of his system, now...
  9. I will agree with Flash in that our scouting department does seem to suck pretty bad, at least the upper level heads (Shaeffer). IIRC, when Wilder was here as director of scouting, we had our good drafts (Anderson, Sweeney, Fields), but in the years before that and the 2005/2006 drafts, Schaefer has been in charge, and has not done a very good job drafting, especially high picks, which is where most All-Stars come from, though obviously you find a few in lower rounds (i.e. Beurhle, McCarthy, Pujols -- Best player in all of baseball by far). It's not a good idea to depend on diamonds in the rough, though. It'll bite you in the ass.
  10. It's good to see him doing fairly well since many 50th rounders won't make it out of rookie league or single-A at best. It's quite a longshot, but how cool would it be if he made it to the bigs someday.
  11. I could see this thread having some staying power... Woke up, played FIFA 2006, went to church, ate at Taco Bell, played FIFA some more, got online...
  12. Speaking of AP tests, it's so crap for me b/c we took them after I graduated. Of course, my high school was the first to graduate in the country, while others still had like 1 1/2 months, so I guess it'd be hard for the College Board to give the tests any earlier. But, anyway, I actually did well on the Biology test considering all I did in there (since it was 1st period, started at 7:30, not 8 like other classes) was sleep or do sudokus/crosswords. Basically, I did what I need to get a C and that was it. Anyway, I got a 2 on the test, so that was a big waste of a class. There was one badass thing that I got out of that class, and that was we got to dissect a human brain. It was so badass to see what's inside our heads. I mean, I've seen replicas, etc., but to see it in real life and get to pick it apart was fascinating. We had 18 in my class and 6 brains, so everyone got plenty of "brain time."
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) Chelsea = Aneheim Angels when the won the WS Manchester Uniter = New York Yankees Ah, okay. Thanks. The baseball reference helps a lot.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 06:29 AM) Don't think Krivsky would give up Bray and Majewski when the bullpen has been the weakest link for the Reds so far this season. Well, if we gave them Politte, Tracey, and another AAA pitcher that could be a reliever for them, would they do it to also acquire that #1 pitcher they've been needing. Arroyo has done well, but he's no #1. Plus, can you really count on him to keep going at the pace he is the rest of the year? I don't think so. This year, stats-wise, Freddy is no #1, but you could consider him that in years past, which might be intriguing enough for the Reds to do it.
  15. On my day off of work, I... Woke up at 1, played FIFA 2006, watched some of the Fire game, bought a new golf bag, played more FIFA, ate dinner, played more FIFA, and posted on Soxtalk. Now, I'm off to watch some ER.
  16. The Reds could also be another possible team we could deal with. I know they just got robbed in a trade with the Nationals, and maybe would be hesitant to deal again (now that they've angered the fans). However, what they added in that trade were two quailty major league relievers, so maybe they made that trade to add pieces for another trade for a SP, which they really need. I think a trade of Freddy, Politte, and maybe a minor leaguer like Sean Tracey for, say, Gary Majewski, Bill Bray, plus minor leaguers Homer Bailey (SP) and Jay Bruce (OF) would get the job done. This would give the Reds a quality SP with ace potential if he pitches like we know he can, a reliever who could use a change of scenery, and Tracey, who could either be plugged into their rotation or bullpen. In return, we get two major league relievers (both with sub-4 ERA's) which would allow BMac to step into the rotation, a top pitching prospect who could be ready by 2008 and a top OF prospect who's only 19 years old. If I was offered this, I would seriously consider it. All that being said, if I'm KW, when it's all said and done, I'd prefer to stick with what we have and plug-in Sean Tracey in the 'pen, and if he doesn't work out, then start trying out other pitchers, like Heath Phillips, Chuck Haeger, and maybe Tim Redding. Just throwing out an option...
  17. I liked Leo when he was in our system and wanted him to do well even though he had zero prospect status. Is he still in A or did he move up to AA?
  18. Getting Klinsmann would be pretty awesome. He's young and did really well with Germany after only being a coach less than 2 years. Think how good of a job he'll do after a few years under his belt.
  19. Man, I really liked the O2 jerseys. They looked badass. Also, I am new as a soccer fan and don't know much yet, so can anyone verify the following statement:
  20. Damn, that sucks for those teams, but they shouldn't have done what they did. I haven't liked Juventus since they beat me in the ECC in FIFA 2006 , but I feel bad for them in a way, especially everyone in their organization who wasn't involved in the wrong-doings. On a side note, I'd like to thank the World Cup for turning me into a soccer fan. I've never really liked soccer until now. I thought it was boring, but after World Cup play, I've gotten into it. I actually watched some of the Fire game today until I had to go to the golf store to buy a new bag before they closed.
  21. Right now, we could own the trade market and get way more than either Freddy or Javier is worth. Reason 1) They would be the two best SPs available and at this time of year some people will do anything to add pitching. Reason 2) We don't have to make any trades. We're pretty damn solid as it is, with a team that has enough talent to win a World Series. So, if a team came to us and was like, "We'll offer you this. Take it or leave it," and we don't like that offer, we could turn it down in a heartbeat, move on, and never second guess it. Kenny knows this and will be smart in playing his cards knowing that he has 2 huge advantages: Knowing he has best talent available and that he doesn't have to make a move if he doesn't want to. Btw, this being said, I would personally rather see us trade Freddy if we are going to trade one of the two.
  22. I hate to see Cliff go b/c he was such a big reason for last year, but this had to be done. So long, Cliff! Also, I'm really quite excited to see Tracey up here again. I think he can be a very solid reliever for us.

    Books

I'm reading White Coat: Becoming a Doctor at Havard Medical School right now. It's awesome. I would definitely recommend it for anyone considering going to med school and becoming a doctor. Next up, though, I'm going to read Hope and Other Dangerous Persuits. It's my required summer reading for UT. I thought summer reading was over after high school, but it's alright b/c it should be a good book. Btw, does anyone have any good suggestions for interesting medical books? Specifically ones dealing with either med school, life as a doctor, or Emergency medicine.
  24. Plus, a point that everyone is forgetting to mention: He went to a badass college -- Tennessee
