Iraq in Miserable State, Ambassador Memo says
dasox24 replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 03:44 AM) I don't know what that was all about.. but I'll tell you this: "Don't Mess With Texas!" Governor Bush, I listened very carefully to the Vice-President's remarks, and I honestly do not believe he messed with Texas. -

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 03:12 AM) One word: lockbox. Rex, may I just say that in my plan, the "lock-box" would be used only for Social Security and Medicare. It would have two different locks. Now, one of the keys to the "lockbox" would be kept by the President; the other key would be sealed in a small, metal container and placed under the bumper of the Senate Majority Leader's car. The "lock-box" would also be camoflauged. Now, to all outward appearances, it would be a Leatherbound edition of Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. But it wouldn't be. It would be the "lock-box". -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) I have to say, a couple of weeks ago someone was posting all these notes about how great a show Lost was. I didnt believe you guys for a second. So I went to my local Blockbuster, burned the season and began watching it last week. After about 6 days I have almost finished the first season, with a bootleg version of season 2 on the way. Seriously this show is so addicting, im wondering why I didnt watch it sooner. I would recommend this show to anyone who wants to watch something this summer that is not crap. Lost is the real deal. Thanks for wasting my life, Soxtalk. I bought Season 1 on DVD in January, and became obsessed with it. I finished it in less than a week. I've been going crazy waiting for Season 2 to come out. Unfortunately, it comes out in October, after Season 3 starts, so I'm in kind of a dilemma. Any suggestions?

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) Hahahahhahahahahaah. Hahahahhaahahaahha. Are the Knicks serious? Hahahahahahahahhaa. Ditto

They had the Clemson connection going regarding the pitching side of things. Btw, I've been meaning to ask where LaMura has been? I'm sure I know, but I can't recall at the moment.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) dasox- It's Wilfrido Pujols. He's probably related considering it's the same organization. Ah, ok. Thanks.
-
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 03:00 AM) Bristol won 11-7 in their opener. Did anyone notice that the Cards have a Pujols that played against us. Is that Albert? If so, why would he start his rehab in such a low level? Most Major Leaguers that rehab go to AA or AAA, maybe even A, but not a low level rookie league. Just thought it was interesting to point out. Oh, and I'm very excited about Gerst as well, Dan.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 05:58 AM) Shelby 3-5. Lee Cruz, 10th round pick, 3-4 with 2 doubles. 11th round pick, Urena with the save. Just to let everyone know, you can read up on these guys and our other draftees in the next week when our Draft Review gets up.

QUOTE(heirdog @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) Your 2020 Chicago Whitesox: DH: Konerko ... Haha, Paulie's gonna be the next Julio Franco! I like it...

QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) Does Whisler have a good sinker? No HR allowed this year (I think - maybe I read the stats wrong). IIRC, he throws a fastball, curveball, splitter, and changeup.
-
Justin Cassel, our 7th round pick, should start out there. He's a guy who could rise to high-level prospect status over the next year w/ the talent he has.

This is just a FYI, but this kid went to the same high school that Sox 34th round draftee Tyler Wright went to last year. -
That's pretty funny

QUOTE(SnB @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 05:40 AM) yes sir Alright, well, thanks for the help!

QUOTE(SnB @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 05:17 AM) 1) I'm still playing my copy of it. I'm using a set of sliders I found on operationsports.com and am having LOADS of fun. I'm at the end of my 2nd year in my KU dynasty (playing the first game of a series, coaching the rest). It really is a fun game to play, at least with the sliders I'm using. I really like the playoff system of college baseball, so many win or go home games. 2) The players have fake names, but are based on LAST YEAR'S NCAA rosters So wait, when you say "last year's NCAA rosters," do you mean it has guys like Ryan Zimmerman and Lance Broadway?
-
I know there was a thread about this game a few months back, but the search feature isn't working and it's not around anymore, so I thought I'd ask some questions to those who bought the game. I'm probably gonna buy it, but I want to have some questions answered first. 1) I have read that the actual gameplay (hitting, pitching, etc.) is great, but other than that there's not much to it. i.e. Commentary may not be the best, and it's just kind of a bland experience while playing.... Is this true, and if so, did it really have an affect on your liking the game or not, or did you not care at all? 2) I also read that it had made up players. Now, when it says that, does it mean that the players are completely made up and have nothing to do with the real players? Or, does it mean it's like NCAA Football, where they can't have the player's name on the game b/c of NCAA reasons, but they just make everything about that player the same and give him the name "#7", for example. I'd hope it's just like the football games so I can play with McCulloch, John Shelby, Matt Long (if they have MU), etc. Thanks.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 03:43 AM) We seem to have gotten our first interview for FutureSox. A top ten round pick. I'm fairly certain you guys will definitely get interviews with at least the top 2 picks, so if I had to guess someone else that yall probably got an interview with, I'd have to say it was either Omogrosso or Cruz. They pretty much have to sign since they're seniors, and yall wouldn't want to do an interview with someone that could end up not signing.

QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) Chisoxfn (Or anyone), What late round picks do you see having the most upside/best chance to contribute at the big league level? Thanks I can't say too much b/c I haven't been able to follow the draft as much as I normally have the past couple of years, but one guy I'd think we'd have a good shot at signing would be Tyler Wright (34th round), a CF out of South Florida CC. First of all, he's a redraft from last year; we got him in the 24th round last year, though. Right after last year's draft he was told by the Sox that he was drafted as a draft and follow candidate. And while we didn't sign him before the draft as a D and F, we did redraft him, so you know someone in the organization must really like him. Anyway, he's supposed to be very fast and strong for his size (6'0'', 190). He put on 15 lbs. in just his one year of college, and could probably add more. He's quite an athlete too, considering he was the starting tailback for 2 or 3 years (can't remember which) on his high school football team, which is pretty impressive considering he's from the state of Florida, which produces the best football talent in the country along with Texas. To make a comparison to someone in our own minor league system, I'd have to say he's like a Jerry Owens type, with the potential to add more power as he continues to grow. (Remember, he just turned 19 in April). His coach at South Florida seemed very optimistic about Wright's ability to add some power to his speed game as well. Lastly, to go along with his natural ability, Wright is also supposed to have a great work ethic, have a high baseball IQ, and is said to be a pretty hard-nosed player.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) 34. Tyler Wright, cf, South Florida CC I'm fairly certain Wright is a redraft. We drafted him last year as a prime draft and follow candidate and placed him in a CC to see how he'd do. Edit: In fact, I found a write-up I did on him (as well as some other guys after last year's draft), and here's what I found out, although finding info on a 30-something round high school kid is hard as I'm sure Jason and other draft guys know. Tyler A. Wright – CF – Charlotte H.S. (Fla.) – 6’0’’, 175 Tyler A. Wright – CF – Charlotte H.S. (Fla.) – 6’0’’, 175 Wright, who was a 2-sport star in high school, was named 1st Team All-Area by the Herald Tribune in both baseball and football. This 6-foot, 175 pound outfielder hit .349 with 26 stolen bases his senior year. According to an article from the Herald Tribune, the White Sox have already told Wright they drafted him as a draft-and-follow, so he’ll be attending South Florida CC next year.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 06:13 AM) Turn to whatever you watch the vcr on. Surf thru the channels (on the vcr) until you get to an input or line 1 or line 2 channel, unless the VCR remote has an input button. make sure eveything is plugged in too I did all that. I checked it on both line 1 and line 2, but it was just a blue screen, which is what it looks like normally before I turn on my PS2. I guess that means the wiring or something is messed up b/c it seems to me like I hooked everything up correctly.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 05:51 AM) If you fly me out there, I'll set it up. Not sure I can afford that. haha Actually, the chords have to be connected into the VCR. As for the other thing you mentioned, I'm not really sure. All I can tell you is that the chords connect at one end into the N64, while the other end has a red, white, and yellow plug.

Um, I don't know if I'm the only one who finds this funny, but the headline for the Sox loss in the Tribune is "Shooting Blanks." I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw this. Also, can anyone give me an idea of why my N64 won't play on my t.v.? The system turns on, so I know it works, but nothing comes up on the t.v. I changed my t.v. to channel 3, which is what I always do for video game systems, and plugged in the game system to connect to the t.v., but nothing was coming up. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I've had great success with my laptop, which is an HP, as has my friend, who also has an HP. I guess screen size depends on the person, but I have a 14 in. widescreen, which I think is plenty big, and I wouldn't want anything bigger. However, my friend has a 17 in. widescreen and loves it. Therefore, my advice is to definitely look at the computer in-person if you can, rather than buying it online or anything.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ May 31, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) Something to ponder: Can the Sox afford to take another 3B? I think so. If he's the best player available, why not? Plus, with Fields likely moving to OF or 1B, then it's not exactly like we're loaded with 3B prospects. And, if he does develop well, but we don't have a spot for him in a few years, then we can use him as trade bait.

Even though the draft is such a crapshoot once you get around where the Sox are picking and lower, I know one thing for sure: I'll be happy with whoever the Sox take b/c I have complete faith in their scouting department.
