  1. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 03:06 AM) 19 is such a dumbass age limit. If they insist on an age limit ( which i mostly agree) why not make it 20 years old? If they want players to mature how about them doing so for multiple years at college rather than just one. I'm glad they've at least got some kind of an age limit. I'd rather have it be 20, but at least they're one step closer to getting it to 20.
  2. Happy BDay! Hope it's a good one.
  3. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 05:07 AM) My thought is that BJ is marginal at best..... Along with a guy like Matt Smith, Matt Guerrier, Gary Majewski and even Baj, performing well at the right time and luck is what will be the difference between a Major and Minor League career. Speaking of Majewski, has anyone else noticed that he's having a great year for the Nationals? He's been there 2nd best reliever behind Cordero. He's got a 2.53 ERA in 32 IP. The only thing he could really improve upon is his hair. Yikes.
  4. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) Depends on who you ask. The highest pick not signed is Yudelmis Hernandez, 1B, out of a Miami area HS. I was doing my FS writeup on him and it seems like he could be a draft and follow. He is a big time power bat, but missed his senior season due to a torn meniscus. He has a commitment to Broward CC so the Sox may want to see how he performs and sign him next year. I split and merged all the draft signing talks into here. The Sox must like these Broward CC guys. Two of our picks, Dan Jordan and Christian Marrero, both played this past season for Broward.
  5. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) Brian Anderson? That'd be my guess. Well, him or maybe Bobby Jenks.
  6. I found this snippet at the bottom of the page of THIS website if you want to check it out. The site has all the FA's for next offseason listed, as well as FA's for each offseason until 2010 if you want to check it out. He's 31 years old, and I highly doubt that we'd sign him. But, I saw that specifically wanted to come here, so I just thought I'd throw out the option. Plus, this might mean that other, and better, Japanese players might want to specifically come here too in the future. So, it's something to keep your eye on. On the year, he's 6-4 in 12 starts w/ a 2.70 ERA.
  7. Can you give a hint? Is it a player or employee of the organization?
  8. Congrats to Lance. He had a great year, and was very deserving of this designation.
  9. Good to see Moat and Zaleski continue to pitch well out of the 'pen.
  10. A lot of older players get that laser eye surgery to get perfect vision, and I see no difference b/t that and using these new contacts. Plus, contacts cause no harm, whatsoever, to the body, like steriods do, so you can't compare the two.
  11. One thing I don't like is the cover on the game's case. I'd much rather have someone that played last year on the cover (Cedric Benson would have been a badass choice), or at least if they're gonna use a really old player, they could have gotten someone better than Desmond Howard.
  12. Happy BDay, Dan! Hope you have a good one.
  13. I ate at an All-You-Can-Eat Pizza Buffet, which was awesome.
  14. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 01:29 AM) Guys, I just wanted to say good luck finding some of these guys. I've never seen a draft that has this many guys that I can't find squat on. Its amazing. Yeah, I've been spending a little while trying to do research, but it's tough. With so many JC/CC, HS, and small college players, it's hard to find their stats and stuff on them. It's fairly easy with the major college guys, at least.
  15. Happy BDay! Hope it's a good one.
  16. I actually watched a little bit of the MathCounts contest w/ my friend while we were paying attention to the MLB draft online, and at one point I got 2 out of 3 right. My friend and I were laughing up a storm b/c the whole time we were watching I'd just been guessing and getting the answer wrong, and then I guessed on 2 and got those right. You kinda had to be there I guess, but it was pretty funny. On a sidenote, I love how they call them "Mathletes"
  17. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) Do any of the BA people work for a major league organization? Didn't think so. The Sox know what they're doing. Thank god. Someone with some sense around here.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) Liotta was a guy that many here were like who the hell is he. I remember I couldn't find any info on the guy for the longest time. Yeah, the only thing we were sure of was that he missed an entire year of baseball. That really made us have a lot of confidence in the pick, lol. We thought we drafted a no-name guy with arm problems.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) This kind of smells of Ray Liotta. A guy off everyones radar. That's exactly who I thought of when I heard the pick.
  20. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) It's a stretch when you draft him multiple rounds earlier than you still could have had him. Bleich still on the board and they go with Brooks... crappy use of their limited picks, IMO. I just don't think anyone should worry about it. The Sox know what they're doing.
  21. Damn, the Cubs got another badass pitcher in Mark Holliman. Trust me, he's gonna be a "name" in a couple years. Many teams will regret not taking this guy.
  22. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:05 PM) Sounds like a "Stretch" It might sound like a "stretch" to you, but to the Sox it's not, and I have complete faith in our scouting department. They do a great job. IIRC, Jeremy Reed was a "stretch" in round 2 when we drafted him, and he turned out to be very worthy of that selection.
  23. Oh man, did I call the Broadway pick! I just had one of those feelings that he wasn't our "Plan D."
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 06:59 AM) Super Regionals are a best of 3 situation. Ah, ok. That makes sense.
