  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 12:27 AM) I'm going to win 3 leagues...what do those teams have in common? They all had Odell Beckham on them. All hail the great Odell Beckham! He's the reason I'm $250 richer. Fantasy game changer. He's also on my team that won the championship.
  2. Won my league for the 4th straight year. At this point, go ahead and put me in the Fantasy Hall of Fame.
  3. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 12:22 PM) Christmas in San Antonio means . . . Rounds of golf at Cedar Creek, Republic, and Brackenridge Park. Boat trip down River Walk, and New Years in Big Bend. I'm spending Christmas in Houston. You better believe the golf clubs are coming with me. I hope to get in a couple rounds.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 01:17 PM) If he is good, he turns into McCown, and someone overpays for him. If he sucks, we don't want him anyway. Play the rookie you have under control. I don't see anyone overpaying him for 2 good games. McCown had half a season where he tore it up. But 2 good games might be enough to see if he's worthy of a roster spot as a backup.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) I think forums are going the way of the dodo bird unfortunately with the younger generation. I hope I'm wrong, but they seem to get their discussion fix via social media more than not. I started when I was 14 here, and was on the espn sox forum probably when I was 11. Seems to be the case for a lot of members. Yeah, I wondered about that. I couldn't think of a reason why, but I guess the social media aspect makes sense. That's sad, though. I don't think you can get near the quality of discussion on some social media site as you can on a message board like Soxtalk. I was on WSI, ESPN, MLB forums all in the early 2000s before finding SoxNet and then eventually SoxTalk. Dasox24 was a screen name I picked in 6th grade - I used it on WSI and maybe ESPN. I remember because 24 was my jersey number in football that year. I can say this: Dasox24 would not be my screen name if I were to choose one now. And yet, as long as SoxTalk is around, I'll never change it.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 12:27 PM) Is he signed for next year? Nope. I just meant that we could re-sign him as the backup if he plays well.
  7. I would rather watch Fales like most of you. But if he isn't ready, maybe it's good not to throw him out there against a defense as good as the Lions. He could get eaten alive. That said, I am also looking forward to seeing Clausen. Not because I think he could be our starter next year, but rather, I think it's important to find out if he can be a quality backup. No matter who our starter is next year, if Clausen plays well to end the season, then it will be reassuring to know we have a decent backup QB with could win some games for us if the starter gets hurt.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 17, 2014 -> 06:22 PM) Dontrelle Willis was one of the ROY's when I was 16. Nice. Bobby Crosby and Jason Bay were ROY's when I was 16. Interesting that neither is in the league 10 years later.
  9. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Dec 17, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) Adam Schefter‏@AdamSchefter·2 mins2 minutes ago Stunner from Chicago: Bears starting QB Jimmy Clausen this week, per source. Boom. Can't believe they're actually doing it. But he deserves to be benched.... I assume this means he'll be gone in the offseason. You can't bench him and then bring him back.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 17, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) Thats because you are cheering for McKenzie I'm rooting for McKenzie too. Not only is he a Vol, but his son (a 5 star DT) is also going to Tennessee next year.
  11. I'm a little surprised no one has voted that is under the age of 23. It's crazy because that's the age range a ton of us were when this site started... But I know it's early in the day - maybe they are all still asleep. Edit: Looks like it took 26 votes to get someone in that age range.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 04:30 PM) Guys, it is all setting up for the next coach of the Bears to be.... Mike Singletary. s***. This is exactly what's going to happen, isn't it?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) Apparently even Bears ownership is getting pushed around at Soldier field. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/12/16/bea...by-saints-fan/q From the ESPN article about this: Sign that man up! Also, I think we know who that fan was...
  14. This weekend was awesome. I'm travelling to Milwaukee for work now, so I left the cold, windy, overcast weather and got back to Atlanta to temps in the 60s. I spent all day Saturday drinking outside at bars. Side note: I have a question for you cold-weather pro's... When the weather is really bad, what kind of shoes do you wear into work? I can't go traipsing through the snow, slush, etc-covered parking lots in my loafers. Do you wear boots and then change your shoes when you get into the office? Or do you wear something that can handle the outside elements while being acceptable in the office?
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 11:54 PM) For the late night crew, this is heaven for us. Haha, no joke. I've been loving all of this late night breaking news.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 12:22 AM) Bought my soon to be 3-year old nephew one of those Power Wheels jeeps I always wanted when I was a kid. I don't get to see him much since I'm in Vegas, but pretty excited to see the smile on his face when he sees that That's pretty awesome. I always wanted one of those too when I was little. But at least my next door neighbor had one, so I got to use that.
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) A couple of my friends went to Ole Miss for the Miss State game a few weeks back and said it was amazing. The one problem? $40-50 covers to get into bars afterwards. What the s***? Yeah, I experienced the same thing. It was bulls***. But every bar was packed so I understand why the bar owners do it. Nobody is going to be the one who stays home while everyone else is at the bars. I talked to some friends who graduated recently from Ole Miss and they told me it was something that started this year. Previously, they had never dealt with more than maybe a $5 cover, and even that was rare.
  18. For those of you saying a SEC football game, I would suggest going to Ole Miss if possible. I love tailgaiting for Tennessee games, and Alabama, Georgia, LSU (night game) are awesome too. But The Grove is so unique. It's hard to truly comprehend it until you go. And Oxford is a pretty charming town as well. The difficult thing about an Ole Miss game is that it's impossible to find a hotel b/c Oxford is so small. You'd have to rent out a house (or apartment) for the weekend, which is what I did last October for the UT-Ole Miss game.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 09:26 PM) I was impressed, at Indiana it took 1.25 years for me to get a sports related riot. Tennessee took 1 month. I'm just happy I wasn't part of that. I reacted pretty rationally. I was more sad than angry. I knew USC was Kiffin's dream job. But I will never forget where I was when I heard the news - getting out of my car at Rocky Top Books on the strip.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 04:56 PM) If Chryst leaves, that will be 2 straight schools I've arrived at that have lost their head coach within a few months of me arriving. one more and that's becoming a pattern. So I have you to blame for the Derek Dooley years...
  21. Awesome. I really like this move. Great to see us shoring up that bullpen. Even if Jennings regresses some, losing Rienzo doesn't concern me at all.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 04:57 PM) Wow...that is surprising...Nebraska steals Oregon State's coach and Oregon State goes to Big 10 and steals Wisconsin's coach. Really surprising as Wisconsin is a much better job on paper. Does Anderson have west coast ties or something? He lived out West his whole life (mainly Utah) until taking the Wisconsin job. That's the only reason I can think of why he'd leave - to be closer to home. Oregon St somehow ended up with a better coach than the guy who left them. That's why you always have contingency plans.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:17 PM) @RapSheet: Would’ve been a great hire RT @Gil_Brandt: Was told tonight #Michigan officials offered David Cutcliffe the job. #Duke coach turned it down Wow, if true. I can understand why Cut would stay at Duke - it's a perfect fit for him and how he runs a program, plus he's up there in age... But I mean, damn, how does the coach at Duke turn down Michigan? That's not something I ever thought I'd see.
  24. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 12:25 AM) I've said it many times here. Frank was the reason I became a sox fan. Griffey Jr. was the reason I played baseball (CF, left handed, etc.) I'm super jealous of you right now. I was so shell shocked. It wasn't like I saw him from far away. He was standing directly in front of me, but his back was to me. Then he turned around and that's when it hit me that it wasn't just some dude boarding the plane right in front of me... it was Ken f***ing Griffey. We made some small talk as we waited to board and then he sat down in First Class and I kept moving to my seat. Sorry, I'm done. Didn't mean to hijack this thread.
  25. This has been an awesome day for the baseball fan in me. It started out with me and Ken Griffey Jr (my favorite player, other than Frank Thomas, as a kid) having a short conversation on an airplane this morning. And ends with the Sox picking up major needs in Robertson and (likely) Samardzija. Awesome.
