QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 12:03 AM) Uh, so those of you in this thread want to check out the other one now. Haha. Thank you. I keep getting sucked into one thread and missing news in the other... even if this ESPN report seems to have jumped the gun.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) Tim Anderson @TimAnderson7 22s23 seconds ago I Was Taught To Be a Man, Stand On My Two Feet Like a Man. #Ready4unexpected f*** I wouldn't look too much into this. I bet it means nothing. Probably just lyrics to a song he likes or something like that. -
I absolutely love everything about Christmas. The lights/decorations, the music, time spent with family. It's awesome. I can't help but feel happy. We open presents that are from fellow family members on Christmas Eve. Presents from Santa are opened on Christmas Day.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 7, 2014 -> 06:13 PM) Have an interview scheduled Tuesday for a pretty good position with a for-profit national technical college chain based in the Indy area. While researching the company, I discovered that they essentially trick students into taking out more loans than they can afford in order to get them enrolled and a lot of the students default on the loans and many others end up with severely damaged credit. Is it even worth going to the interview. I have a hard time seeing myself working for such people. That's tricky. How positive are you that they actually do the aforementioned loan thing? Is it just speculation or a proven deal? I'd say to go the interview no matter what. At the very least, it's always good experience to do interviews. But even more, you could use the interview to bring up your concerns and give them a chance to explain.

QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Dec 7, 2014 -> 05:43 PM) Just an update. I ended up getting offered and accepting the System Administrator position. Bottom line, I will end up making a little less a year, but my base salary is higher (OT and bonuses were the difference at the last place). I'm content with leaving to be in a position that I want to be in and in a company with less frustrations and stress (not to mention less hours). I can relate with Steve, much happier so far. With that said, looking long term I'm a little unsure where I want to end up in the IT industry. I don't think I want to continue being an Engineer forever though not necessarily sure about being in management. My feelings are that I'd like to work in a position where I'm not expected to work after hours for upgrades/migrations or putting out fires. I think of a traditional 9-5 schedule. Congrats! Sounds like you made the right move.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 06:04 PM) I frankly just disagree that this is a universal rule. Look at Tennis, some are Pete Sampras, who move ahead early and get killed for a few years before dominating. Others do much better always dominating until full maturity and then moving pro. For some, confidence can be really precarious at ages 17-20 where they had been ahead for so many years. When they fail before they are pro, it can really destroy some personalities who may have done better on a different track. Completely agree. Everybody handles things differently. Some guys will be better off being pushed ahead early, and others need a slower development time. Unfortunately, I'm not sure there is a good way to determine which kind of person each player is.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 04:47 PM) About 10 years ago, Riley turned down the Bama HC job (after he left the Chargers). Surprising, considering Riley played under Bear Bryant at Alabama. During that time period, it was just about conserving the good 'ol boys network; I'm shocked they didn't convince him to come back. But I wish they had. Maybe it would have meant they never had the Saban dynasty. More importantly: I want to know how, in that time period, a guy from Idaho ends up playing college football in Alabama. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) Chaveztalk. Good times. -
It's really a shame that both of these guys have had awful luck with injuries. They both were so good when healthy. Medlen, in particular, was nasty during that 2nd half of 2012 when they moved him into the starting rotation.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 04:19 PM) Mark Snyder @Mark__Snyder 1h1 hour ago RT @USATODAYsports: UAB to shut down football program: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf...ogram/19702899/ … I feel bad for those players. They won 6 games this year and were bowl eligible. Also, Tennessee was supposed to open next year against UAB in Nashville. I wonder who we'll replace them with. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 01:10 AM) There's not enough talk in this thread about how awful the SEC East is. Ha, it really is. That being said, it won't be for long. Florida is a sleeping giant. Hire a good coach and they will win 10 games a year at minimum. If Georgia can find a QB, they'll be a ton better. Tennessee will be back. We're recruiting way too well and the whole 2-deep is basically underclassmen right now. And of course Missouri is always incredibly solid under Pinkel. He develops players so well, especially on that D-line. Kentucky will never be great, but Stoops seems to have them heading in the right direction. They're recruiting well and could get to 7-8 win seasons like they were at the end of the Rich Brooks era. Only SC and Vandy are trending down right now. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 06:05 PM) I don't think that is true at all. I think there is a chance that he is brought back even if he loses to NW and if he beats NW and is going to a bowl game I would be really surprised if he isn't brought back. From an outsider's perspective, I can't imagine Beckman keeping his job. Besides the amount of losses in his tenure and the fact that he seems to get out-coached a lot, I think the lack of attendance is the most damning thing for him. Nobody is going to the games. You cannot have that if you want your program to be successful. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 11:46 PM) That picture off center with a player right on the thirty five does not convince me, sorry. Huh? The closest player's front foot is a full yard behind the 35. You can't lean enough without falling over for any part of your body to be that far in front of your front foot. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 11:34 PM) The calls were absolutely correct, talking about the timeout and challenge decisions. Just dumb. I have no problem with the challenge. It was close enough that that's a risk you take. It gives you a better chance than holding Mizzou to a 3 and out, and then getting the ball back with ~40 seconds, needing to go the length of the field with zero timeouts. SEC officiating is so bad that you never know what they might overturn. I saw a clear-cut 4th down stop get overturned in the Vandy game last year and allowed Vandy to end up winning. There was zero video evidence that he got the 1st down but they gave it to them anyway. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 11:31 PM) I mean 1) they were correct calls and 2) it took incredible luck of two missed xp to get to that point. Mizzou dominated. Should not have been close. That 1st offside call was absolutely not correct... We played really awful. Had so many chances to take advantage in that game and pissed them away. But still, just know that you guys got extremely lucky on that call. -
White Sox sign Zach Duke, 3 years, $15 million

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) I'm confused by the way he wrote this. So did Zach Duke "allow" 20% of inherited runners to score, and the white sox 32%? Or did Duke "hold" 80% of runners and White Sox only 32%? Confusing switching of terminology there. I read it as the former. He only allowed 20% of inherited while the Sox allowed 32%. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) Yeah well I have sources. I can't tell you who they are, but rest assured that those teams, plus quite a few others, are interested in both Chris Sale and Jose Quintana. The White Sox are listening but aren't sure the teams will give enough. Rick Hahn said something like "You don't ever want to say anybody's untouchable, because there's a price for everything, but I'm just not sure any one is going to be able to pay that price for either of our best two starting pitchers." -
