  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) Citing Clay Travis immediately makes it not click worthy. Guy is a certified troll, worse than Marriotti and Cowley combined. He's definitely a troll, but he has his moments. I thought his OSU fanbase article was pretty weak, but some of those Top 10 worst fanbase articles were hilariously spot-on.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) Ohio State is THE most popular sports team in Ohio. Being that you are all from Illinois you have no idea what its like. Its as if the Cubs, Sox, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks combined to form one team. Thats what it's like. You dont get a browns or bengals onesie when you are a baby, you get a Buckeye outfit. College teams in Illinois arent even in the same stratosphere in popularity. I was given my first OSU jersey at age 2. People dont need to go there to be fans, we all grew up watching them on saturdays rooting for them, because its literally life in Ohio. When I was at Miami I watched every OSU game on saturday with literally no consideration for the Redhawks. I have a buddy who grew up in Georgia and played football at Ohio. He said he hated how all the OU students only cared about Ohio St football. He wasn't ready for that.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 02:55 PM) What's the connection to Tennessee? Didn't Paul play at Wake Forest his entire college career? Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It makes no sense at all. Our Athletic Department does some amazing work with that kind of recruiting stuff, so I'm perplexed by that one. I feel like it could be fake.
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) You mean this isn't going to work? Ha, I hadn't seen that before. Surprising since I'm a member of both 247 and Rivals. I like the photoshop work, but I don't really understand it. I'm not sure what Chris Paul has to do with Evans other than being a PG.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) For a true shocker I would say Clemson fits that bill since they recruited him first. However, it's more likely USC or Tenn who gets booted. Agreed. Sounds like we've been recruiting him as hard as anyone, but I suspect it will be too late in the game to really make a difference. Always an issue with a new coaching staff trying to catch-up on current year recruits.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:55 PM) I have a bunch. I am long off the tee usually around 300 with really terrible long irons so I score by wedge play both in the fairway and just around the green. You know, we should have a Soxtalk open for charity one of these years. That's actually a pretty cool idea. While I've never attended any of the SoxTalk functions (softball game, Sox game, etc), that is something I would most likely do if it happened. I'd gladly make the trek to Chicago.
  7. When the dishwasher is full, I do it the same way Don does.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 12:18 PM) Has Byron Scott legitimately proved he can't "Hack it"? No. And I actually like Scott. My comment was more in general about the continual re-hiring of rejects.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) Why in God's hell do NBA teams continue to hire retread failures like Byron Scott? This continually happens in all sports. Coaches and GMs both repeatedly get 2nd and 3rd chances when they've proven they can't hack it. Why not try something new instead of wasting your time on someone who sucks? It's a damn "good 'ol boys" network and it's so frustrating.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 04:39 PM) Technically, it can hurt. Poorly written, misspellings, etc. I usually tell people they should go short and sweet with it and that has always been my approach. More winded you get, more likely you end up hurting yourself vs. helping yourself. The key is really just to remind thank them for your time, indicate your interest, and try to highlight some confidence regarding why you would be a good fit and that you look forward to hearing back from them, etc (try to make it customized so you highlight something unique you heard from the interviewer, etc, too). Spend time checking grammar, etc. Basically do the opposite of what I do when I post this site (which is just type and hit post without ever going back to rereading). I am okay looking like a fool on her, but not in a professional setting, take your time and make sure you are absolutely comfortable with what your are sending. I don't know if that was intentional or not, but it proved your point perfectly.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) Buehrle is my favorite White Sox ever and one of, if not, the best pitcher in franchise history. He will always be a member of the White Sox and this awesome article deserves being in PHT for all Sox fans to see. I hope one day he wins #300 with the Sox and he ends up having another 5-7 year successful run on the southside!!! This sums up exactly what I would have posted. Buehrle is the only former Sox player that I've ever actively kept up with after leaving the team. When he was with Miami, I went to a Tuesday night Braves-Marlins game solely because I wanted to watch him pitch. I hope he keeps kicking ass and like Jason said, to end up back in a Sox uniform to pick up #300.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) Last year if you bought the anniversary Madden game for XBox through Amazon, they gave you a code to use for Sunday Ticket on your device. I got it for my nephew, he's a big Giants fan. I did that last year. It was awesome... And I'll definitely be buying Sunday Ticket again this year. So much better than trying to illegally stream games like I used to and having to deal with pop up ads and grainy feeds.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 10:55 PM) Jordan McCrae might be a steal. McRae might not be able to do anything but score, but he sure does it well. I hope (and think) he makes someone's roster. Good character guy who can provide points in a hurry. Always room for that at the end of the bench.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) I will never proofread what I type on a forum. Meant to say shot. I'm on the ball today. Keep it up. It's been giving me a good laugh today.
  15. I was wondering how long it would take the Wade to Chicago rumors to start after LBJ made his decision. I was just imagining the scenario while at the gym. Even though I dislike Wade, if he were to become a Bull, obviously I'd pull for him. I think he would fit well if we managed his minutes appropriately.
  16. Damn it, y'all. This thread is by far the best source of information but I can hardly keep up. I hadn't gotten a chance to read today's thread until now and I had 7 pages to read. I'm trying to get work done here. I now want Melo so bad. I know realistically I'm about to be heart-broken yet again. But I want him.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) Melo is at the berto center now playing pickup with Love and Westbrook and Rose. Haha, nice.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) No. sorry it sucks. it's a strip mall with 100 degree heat. Okay.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:10 AM) On the other hand, Houston as a city is horrible, and as a fit on their team is pretty bad too. Their defense was hilarious last year, and it's not getting any better with Asik gone. I find it funny that people always say this, but Houston is pretty awesome actually. My sister and brother-in-law have lived there for 6 years now (and my parents live there now), and they were dreading it (but it was for a great job opportunity) and they love it now. Their neighborhood is about 10 minutes from downtown, yet you wouldn't feel like you're in a big city. There is a ton to do and a lot of cool areas. I've spent tons of time there over the years and I'd easily move there if I had to. Is it Chicago? No. No city in America is Chicago. But it's a hell of a lot better than a lot of places. And the weather is way better, unless you're the type of person who loves freezing cold temperatures and shoveling snow every day in the winter.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) You can't sign other guys first and then sign your own guys. Bird rights don't work that way. Okay. I figured Bird rights must not come into play in that case (because teams would have been doing this already), but wasn't sure if it was just owners being cheap.
  21. I thought teams could go over the salary cap (e.g. go into luxury tax) as long as it's re-signing their own players. Or am I completely crazy? Is this not the same situation with the Heat? Example: They sign several free agents from other teams before the re-sign LBJ, Wade, and Bosh. Then it doesn't matter where they sit in regards to the salary cap because they can go over it as long as they pay luxury tax. So all of them could still get max deals, right? They would just end up paying like $100M in luxury tax.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 06:11 PM) What I like about adding Melo vs. all the other options, including Love, is that he makes us a great team regardless of Rose. With Rose, wow, what potential. Without Rose, still a very serious contender for a Finals run. Exactly how I feel too.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) Thank y'all. I'm late to the party, but congrats! I just happened to notice that on the first page of this entire thread, you mentioned that you wanted to end up closer to Austin. Glad you were able to make it happen. San Antonio is only about an hour from Austin, isn't it?
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 28, 2014 -> 02:10 PM) Heat might do something to get better, but it makes no sense for Carmelo to go there. Less money, less glory (third fiddle in terms of popularity/recognition on that team in all likelihood), and gets stuck playing alongside another small forward who does everything better than he does. Agreed. But they can now add some very solid players to that roster, then re-sign the Big 3, and have a pretty stacked, deep team. Depth has always been their issue. Now they have a chance to fix that.
