  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 12:24 PM) David Kaplan ✔ @thekapman The Bears have re-signed C Roberto Garza to a 1 yr deal. $1.5M. Solid deal.
  2. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) Squats and deadlifts. Check and check. I do squats on leg days. Haven't done deadlifts in about 2 years. Need to get back to doing that. I asked a bit of a vague question. Obviously, lots of lifts will incorporate the core while you're doing them, as long as you use good technique, etc. But I was thinking more along the lines of yoga-type stuff. More non-traditional exercises that I wouldn't already be doing.
  3. After years of neglecting my core, I'm getting back to it. I noticed a slight twinge in my lower back playing football 2 weeks ago, and it worried me that it could be the beginning of worse lower back pain. In high school, I developed a stress fracture in my lower vertabrae that kept me out of lacrosse for 6 weeks (I literally couldn't run) so I'm not trying to go through that again. I have a flag football league that starts in 2 weeks and I need to be in tip-top shape. So far, so good. I'm doing planks, side-planks, leg lifts, superman, various other stuff. Does anyone have anything in particular that they really love for core work (besides what I mentioned)?
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) Yes, that is him. I've talked to him several times but don't really know a whole lot about him. I'm kinda surprised the police haven't searched the house yet. This has been crazy to watch this unfold from you saying "I think it's my neighbor" to confirming "it is my neighbor." I realize that y'all weren't good friends or anything, but I can't even imagine if the dude who lived next to me all of a sudden was on the local news for robbing a bank.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 08:51 PM) One time I was on Southwest and this happened. I stress it was only one time out of the zillion times I've flown SW. The middle seat in my row was open and there were just a few seats left. I was assuming some big fat male slob would be sitting next to me as always. Not this time ... a perfect-looking woman, totally gorgeous, she was a 9 out of 10 looks-wise wearing appropriate summer clothing, sat in my row, middle seat. Ah yes, she immediately told me she had a fear of flying. She asked me to hold her hand as she literally could not stand the thought of the plane taking off. Did it have the makings of a Penthouse forum story? No. She told me she was going to Dallas to meet some guy she met on the Internet. After talking to her the whole flight and giving her pointers on how to not be afraid to fly, etc., she got off the plane into the loving arms of some guy who was about 5-foot-2 (shorter than her) with a fu manchu mustache about 20-30 years older than her. I just shook my head. I was smart enough to give her my card on the plane, but she never called. She must have married Mr. Fu Manchu. Ah, grand ol Southwest Airlines. Haha, that's one heck of a story. Disappointing, though, for sure. But clearly if this guy looked like that, and she was that attractive, then something else was going on. Probably not much that could have changed the outcome.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) With how poor the combine was and his lack of experience as a stand up pass rusher, I'd put him in the 7th/UDFA right now. Agreed. And I think it's unfortunate, in a way, because you know that some people will make this into a sexuality issue rather than a talent issue. I still think he can have a spot on a NFL team, but he's not even a mid-round pick at this point.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 09:25 PM) Um, how did I never know about Lindsey Duke. Wowza. The video isn't the greatest quality... but I liked George O'Leary's quote: "Obviously you haven't seen his girlfriend. She deserves 6 million googles"
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 05:47 PM) Yes. There is a special quirk for a veterans minimum contract. He has an 840k contract, but a 580k hit. One dollar more, and he has a full hit. That goes for every veterans minimum contract. I think it's safe to assume that McCown will not be getting the veteran's minimum.
  9. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) Rumor has it the Browns are extremely high on Derek Carr. I don't think he slips out of the 1st round. Also I'd love it if the Bears used a middle round pick on Aaron Murray. I'm a big fan of Murray. Wouldn't draft him too early (based on the Bears' other needs/holes), but if he made it to the 4th round, I'd be all over it. With him, it's hard to judge his draft status right now due to the ACL tear. If he can work out reasonably well at his Pro Day, then he'll probably move back up draft boards. But if his knee takes longer to heal than he hopes, it could definitely keep him down.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 12:59 PM) There a few decent 2nd round QB's out there. Mettenberger and Murray should both be there when they select next. Carr may even drop that far. It wouldnt be a bad idea. Yep, was about to say the same thing. I don't think it would be a bad idea at all for the Texans to wait until Round 2. It's kind of like what the Chargers did in 2001 when they passed on Vick, traded down to take LT, and then grabbed Brees with the 1st pick of the 2nd round. Not saying the Texans will necessarily trade down, but you get my drift.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 10:23 AM) I got a nice chuckle out of all the pro scouts in this thread. Thanks, guys! I get what you're saying because, at times, it makes me chuckle too... but to be fair, I have about as good of a track record as any of the "draft experts" and I'm sure a lot of others do too. It's really not that difficult to self-scout the skill positions if you know enough about football and watch film. The hardest for me is OL. QB is obviously pretty tough too.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) Not everyone wants to board quickly, and I get that. However I like choosing my own seats as much as possible especially since you can choose to sit by certain people. Its a good way to ensure a 2 hour conversation with a cute girl on a flight. This is exactly what happened on my Southwest flight to Houston over Christmas. I was already seated and just gave this very cute girl a bit of a smile as she was waiting in the aisle to choose a seat. She promptly sat in the seat next to me (a middle seat, nonetheless) and made for some nice conversation for 2 hours. I used to dislike the "choose your own seat" aspect of Southwest... until that flight.

I like Delta. I fly them more than any other airline, but that's really because Atlanta is their major hub, and they will get me anywhere I could want to go. I also fly Southwest a decent bit. I like them a lot too.
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) Atlanta has holes, just like every other team, but the biggest is that they don't have a pass rusher. They have no one. You could also say this about both OT spots and LB with Atlanta (heck, even TE now that Gonzalez retired). They can't give up picks to get a guy like Clowney. They have gaping holes at many positions. I'm not a fan of Dimitroff at all. He sold out for one year, leaving the team completely barren for the future. Not how you build a NFL team.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) It wouldn't surprise me, but I think that would be such a poor move for a team with so many problem areas. It'd be like trying to scoop water off a tanker with a bucket. Agreed. They have way too many areas that need to be addressed. They can't be giving up several picks just to move up a few spots. Of course, all these Falcons fans in Atlanta want to get Clowney. They're idiots. They already traded away too many picks to get Julio Jones, which I still think was a bad trade. They can't do that again (yes, I know it wouldn't be as pricey, but it would still cost a bit).
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) for D lineman I put a lot more stock into the 10 yard split and the cone/agility drills. DE's arent going to be running 40 yard unimpeded sprints very often. Exactly.
  17. I also think people are making too big of a deal about Manziel "only" running a 4.6. His game is based more on elite quickness than pure speed. How many big plays did he make by running 40 yards in a straight line? He's all about elusiveness. A 4.6 40 combined with his elite athleticism makes him a dangerous QB.
  18. QUOTE (scs787 @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 12:40 PM) Aaron Donald ran a 4.68 with a 10 yard split that was just .03 slower than Clowneys. Dude backed up what you see in his ridiculous highlight videos....If the Bears don't bring back Melton, and Donald is there, that's my pick. I think you're spot on. We know Emery's track record (albeit fairly limited) of highly valuing 2 things: Senior Bowl performance and very good workout numbers. Donald managed to have both (plus great on-field production).
  19. Hope this helps with understanding the 40 times reported at the Combine:
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 21, 2014 -> 05:53 PM) While excessive, I don't think many Americans realize how much that is used abroad. All of my friends from Brazil still chat me with it. Yep. A bunch of my Indian co-workers use it to chat with friends back home.
  21. UNLV's Erick Fedde took the loss against the Vols tonight. 6 IP, 3 ER, 7 K.
  22. QUOTE (scs787 @ Feb 20, 2014 -> 10:08 PM) And when that happens, what would be better(to do first at least)....Keep the same set up but increase the time, or do the squats/ropes/jj/ropes as a straight set then rest? I'm new to this HIIT stuff. To be honest, I don't know too much about high intensity interval training. But I would think that you'd want to keep the same setup, but increase the time/reps. Of course, it probably wouldn't hurt to mix it up occasionally and do the straight circuit with no rest. Changing it up can shock the muscles and make sure you don't get too stagnant with the same old routine. Edit: I realized I misunderstood your question with my first response.
  23. QUOTE (scs787 @ Feb 20, 2014 -> 03:55 PM) Just puked after a 25 min routine that I thought was gonna be cake. 20 sec squats 20 sec rest 20 sec battling ropes (waves) 20 sec rest 20 sec jumping jacks 20 sec rest 20 sec ropes (waves) 40 sec rest 20 sec squats 20 sec rest 20 sec ropes (hip toss) 20 sec rest 20 sec JJ 20 sec rest 20 sec ropes (hip toss) 40 sec rest 20 sec squats 20 sec rest 20 sec ropes (inside waves) 20 sec rest 20 sec JJ 20 sec rest 20 sec ropes (inside waves) 60 sec rest x3 My god was that hell for what minimal work I did. At least you're getting at it! Better than most can say. Nice work. Keep it up and it will be a piece of cake in no time.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 20, 2014 -> 11:07 AM) Wow, in the land of stupid, that might be the dumbest thing I have ever seen out of the NCAA. For the record, the NCAA has come out and said food portion size is not against the rules. Oklahoma reported a violation that wasn't actually a violation.
  25. Bonnaroo lineup is pretty awesome this year.
