  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) If you use uber a lot you may know that. But if its his first time I thought I should warn him. And its actually terrible. Its convenient, but they just rip people off. Theyll say "oh this wasnt uber" then you pay and then you get charged as well. Ive used the service a lot, Ive just had multiple bad experiences since they switched from "black car" to taxi. Ive also seen completely different charges then what they claim. That sucks you've had bad experiences. I use Uber all the time and not once have I been dissatisfied with the service or price. The only minor issue I ever had was one time I had a driver tell me that Uber was charging a $10 cash fee in addition to the normal fare, but I called his bluff because I knew Uber wouldn't do something like that. You just have to be smart about it.
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 12:45 AM) I have never heard of it.. I looked it up and checked the fair and it would be $8-9 which is pretty good. How does it work exactly? It's an app you download on your phone. Create an account, add credit card info, and you're good to go. They don't accept tips (it's built into the fare) and when you get to your destination, they automatically charge the card on file. So you never have to have cash/card on you. As long as you have your phone, you're good to go. It uses your phone's GPS to find your location and the driver has a GPS in the car which navigates them to you. It's actually really simple. As for hiked up fares, the app explicitly tells you if you'll get charged a higher than normal fare. I've heard people complain about it, but it's their own fault for accepting the high charge. For instance, you'll hit the "Request Uber" button and normally that's it. But if there is some sort of rate hike, then it will say something like "Uber is currently in high demand, and as such, fare will be 2x the normal fee." At this point, you can still hit "yes" or "no" to whether you want the ride or not.
  3. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 12:13 AM) Girlfriend and I are traveling to Chicago on March 21st until 23rd. We are taking a train from St. Louis up there and staying downtown for a couple days. We are both 21 and haven't stayed downtown before but have been there a few times. I can find my away downtown on foot but we are going to the Bulls game that Saturday and will need to go from our hotel to the United Center which is a little over 3 miles away. We figured the best way to do that is the bus but we aren't sure how it works, how much it is, etc... Or if there is a better way to get there. Any tips would be great and also some restaurants we should go to. We are staying close to Millennium Park so some places to go that are within walking distance would be great! Thanks guys! Have you ever used Uber? If you use their UberX service, it's cheaper than a taxi and generally better service. At least that's how it is in Atlanta. I take it to/from the bars and it costs me $6 to go about 3 miles. I noticed Uber doesn't offer service in St. Louis, so you might not be too familiar. But I figured it's still a good heads up for anyone else reading this thread who doesn't know much about it.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) Baseball America is the best place to follow it. I'm hoping this is the year my Titans break through with another championship. Tons of depth and a great recruiting class. Preseason #1 in 3 polls...hopefully they finish the year in Omaha as the World Series Champs!!! Guess losing Serrano hasn't hurt you guys too much, lol. But I love having him at Tennessee. He's the man. I'm feeling really good about this season. We're really young, but really talented.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 10:56 AM) Ditto. I would say, in ground baskets are much nicer as a whole but their is convenience with having the portable ones. You can lower the in ground ones as well to dunk on. Makes sense. The people I knew who had in-ground ones all had stationary backboards, so I wasn't sure. But I figured they probably made them like that.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 05:42 PM) That's what sick days are for... Oh, I know. It's just that I haven't taken a sick day in 2.5 years, and I hate doing it. It feels so sketchy unless you're actually sick. But when I do inevitably take one to interview elsewhere, I guess I don't have to feel too bad since: 1) I'm trying to leave my company, and 2) I never miss work so it would seem legit.
  7. For you Walking Dead fans, I took this picture walking home last night. I'm upset that I didn't think of doing it 2 weeks ago when people left their abandoned cars on the road. Would have been perfect. Edit: to those who don't know, this is the view of the iconic image for Walking Dead. I didn't just take same random photo of the city.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) ATL? Let me check if it doesnt matter where you are located. Yep. Thanks Rock.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 04:32 PM) in ground or portable basketball hoop? I always like having a portable one growing up because we could roll it onto the street when wanting to play larger games, rather than just shooting around or playing 1 on 1. I also liked the capability of lowering it and dunking on the 9' rim. I think if you're pretty set on where you want it, then an in-ground one would be fine. But if you ever think you might remodel your house/garage/yard/etc and it might interfere with where you are currently planning to locate the goal, then having a moveable one is nice.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 11:32 AM) Should have waited. Could have killed two birds with one stone.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) Anybody want to be a partner-sales rep/relationship manager for a software company? Open position in the midwest. This actually sounds right up my alley. But I'm not particularly looking to relocate to the Midwest. Bummer. I am starting the process of looking around, though. I'm about fed up with my company. In a way, it's stressful because I've only been with one company since I graduated. On the other hand, I feel pretty confident about finding something better. Also, I've never had to deal with trying to do one job while interviewing for others.
  12. I'm beginning to wish it snowed more often down here. Went out drinking last night and the 2 mile walk home was awesome. Had way too much fun drunkenly running around in all the snow. Y'all would roll your eyes at me, but this is so rare. It took me back to my childhood. I felt like a kid again.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 07:59 AM) People all over the Midwest who are going to Florida for Spring Break plan their trips around avoiding rush hour in Atlanta. Haha, smart move.
  14. Driving downtown on the interstate at 5:30pm here was incredibly eerie. There was hardly a car on the road. I guess no one went into work today in fear of the incoming weather. For context: Atlanta probably has some of the worst traffic in the country. We have 2 major interstates (I-75 and 85) that connect for a couple mile stretch right through the center of downtown. This causes huge backups in every direction and traffic crawls. Rush hour lasts from about 4:30 - 7:30 every night (longer on Thursdays/Fridays). My drive home from work usually takes about 40 minutes because I live downtown, about 12 miles from my office. It took me 15 minutes today. Imagine driving out of downtown Chicago at 5:30 on a Wednesday and no one else being on the road. It would be a first. I'm sure I'll never see this again as long as I live in Atlanta.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) Honestly, that was the s***ty thing about January. For about 3 straight weeks, Monday would be like -15 with -30 wind chills, it'd warm up to 20 by Friday, and then Saturday/Sunday would both be 35-40. A cold front would come in, and Monday would be -15 again, and that just feels awful. It's stayed between -10 and 10 over the past couple weeks though and I'm starting to get used to it. I feel like that can be a good thing, though. I don't care too much about the weather during the week because I'm working all day, every day. But I want it to be nicer by the weekends so I can be outside and enjoy myself. Maybe it's different when dealing with cold vs warm temps, rather than really cold vs cold.
  16. Atlanta is about to get hit again. 1-3 inches of snow, 1/4 inch of ice. Safe to say it won't turn out as bad as 2 weeks ago because I'm sure lots of people will just stay home from work, and the state gov't will actually lay salt/sand on the roads this time.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 7, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) Packers hire Ron Zook as OLB coach. Between Hurtt with the Bears and Zook with the Packers, the recruiting arms race in the NFC North is about to take off...
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) HAHA. Yes, if they beat MSU (a top ten team) they "contend" for a championship. Since they didnt, they werent. This season with 3 top 5 recruiting classes in the bag and a heisman finalist favorite at QB they will once again be touted as a contender. Sorry. Just busting your chops, Rock. I know OSU is going to be pretty good next year.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 11:24 PM) Beat a top ten team huh? Great qualifier. He should get fired. Is this where you start chanting SEC SEC? Nah, he shouldn't get fired. But he should start beating quality opponents before acting like OSU is a championship contender. This isn't a SEC thing. This an an Ohio St being overrated thing.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 09:31 AM) Tenn's fax machine is on fire with the 82 recruits they signed One of the best days of the year if not THE best in recruiting. Love this s***. Lots of surprises already with Malik McDowell's circus coming up too. His mom said she wouldnt sign his LOI to MSU. Hey, don't hate because Butch found a way to fill needs. You should worry about beating a Top 10 team first, something Urban hasn't done yet. I also don't know why ESPN keeps showing UT with 37 signees. We signed 32.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) I'd probably not let on to my terrorizer that he was getting to me if I could help it. With that said, who knows what's going on. I'm curious what the NFL investigation will turn up. Also, another subject, Ratliff at 3-4 NT - be aware that Dallas played a one-gap 3-4, which is a bit outside of the norm. There's no way to be sure whether Ratliff could be a two-gap NT This is a good point that people seem to forget. He's definitely not built to be a traditional 3-4 two-gap NT. I don't see how he could succeed in that role. You need the big body types. Regardless, I still don't see the Bears running too much 3-4. Might get some glimpses of it, but if I had to put money on it, I'd say the base defense will still be a 4-3.
  22. Atlanta was 72 and sunny yesterday, just 5 days removed from our Snowpocalypse. Gotta love weather in the South. Please don't take this as making fun of any of you, as was mentioned earlier in this thread. Just stating how ridiculous our temperature swings can be. But I love that we can have random days of warm weather like this. It just puts everyone in a good mood.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) How have I never seen this before? It might be the greatest thing on the internet. Oh, yeah, it's incredible. You've got to read/watch them all. They crack me up. I tried a few times to get Bois to pick me as one of the characters. Unfortunately, never worked out.
