Official 2013-2014 NCAA Football Thread

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 10:15 AM) Maybe Adidas will be able to pick up the teams currently on the trash factory known as Under Armor. They very well might. I have not heard good things about Under Amour in the basketball world. Apparently their basketball shoes are poor and not comfortable to players, which is why I was a little surprised that Notre Dame chose UA. While they might not be a "basketball" school, their team is always pretty good. Personally, I don't like UA cleats. They don't fit me well. I much prefer my Nike's. Otherwise, I don't have an issue with their apparel, other than some of the awful uniforms they create. -

As expected, Tennessee announced it's switching form Adidas to Nike. I'm pumped... Adidas has lost 2 of their 3 biggest football teams in the last month. -
If I lived alone, I wouldn't have cable. I'd miss live sports, but ultimately it would probably be better. I'd like to think I'd be more productive instead of getting suckered into sports every night when I sit down to eat dinner. But my roommate is a couch potato and would never agree to getting rid of cable. So I'm cool with having it. At least I only have to pay half.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) Yes, constantly. Odd. Usually we're very self-deprecating and make fun of our inability to handle cold weather.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) Southerners like them have no problem making fun of us when we are driving on ice and living in sub zero temps. Does this actually happen? I don't know a single person that I've ever heard "make fun of" Northerners when you have bad weather. People might think you're crazy for living in a part of the country that can get weather like that, but I wouldn't say anyone makes fun of it. The most common reaction is awe. Like, how the heck do you handle that much snow and/or negative temperatures?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) *pops in Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, gets in car* That's exactly what happens. "I got this, ya'll"

Y'all just don't get it. It's not the 2.5 inches of snow. The roads are complete ice. Making fun of Atlanta residents because their cars won't drive on ice is idiotic.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 08:02 PM) I just got a load Yakima WA to Atlanta GA. It delivers the 3rd, I pray you'll have your s*** together by then. Oh yeah, you'll be fine. It's supposed to be in the 60's all weekend. It was a wild day of weather. I feel bad now for poking fun at the usual overreaction of people here. It was actually really bad today. It took people 6-8 hours to get home in what usually would take 45 minutes. There's black ice everywhere. Hundreds of wrecks. People just left their cars on the roads. Kids are stuck overnight in schools because the buses couldn't get them home and/or their parents could make it to the school. Yeah, it's only two inches of snow but the issue is the ice. It's been below freezing here all day so there is ice everywhere and we have only a few trucks to spread salt/brine.

Atlanta has succumbed. It's been pouring snow for 2 hours now. It's accumulating on the ground. The roads are slick. I've made it home but only have enough food to survive a week. Hopefully our heat stays on. I'll keep you all posted.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 08:39 PM) Iirc you can count the numbers of plows they own on one hand. Haha, this is probably true. I think I mentioned it earlier in this thread, but it hasn't snowed here in 4 years. No real need for plows.
-
The Atlanta forecast is calling for 1 to 3 inches of snow tomorrow. It was nice knowing you all. I'm going to run to the store and buy all the bread I can.

Clint Hurtt is reportedly joining the Bears' defensive staff. I imagine he'll be the assistant d-line coach. This is actually a pretty decent hire. And I found it to be interesting because if any of you follow college football, then you probably know him from his involvement in the sanctions at The U. http://coachingsearch.com/article?a=Louisv...ago-Bears-staff

You are all welcome to move down South. This is my 3rd winter in Atlanta and I've yet to see snow. Of course, that might actually drive some of y'all crazy (e.g. Jake). I love snow, but I like it on my own terms. So I just go snow skiing or something to get my fill. And then I enjoy the not-too-cold winters.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 07:54 PM) It is my understanding that Paul Pasquanelli will be the Bears DL coach(he was previously thought to be LB coach), and Reggie Herring will be the Bears LBs coach. All their experience at the NFL level have been in 3-4 defenses. I'm quite curious what's going to happen to the Bears' defensive scheme. It would seem a 3-4 is becoming more likely, but both of these coaches have plenty of experience in 4-3 defense so I still wouldn't look too much into it. Regardless, Trestman/Emery aren't helping us figure it out. I'm sure we'll just be more multiple next year. That's basically how it is in the NFL anyway. It seems like "being multiple" has been the hot catch-phrase for coaches the last couple years, and I'm sure Trestman will say the same generic coach-speak when it comes to it.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) If you're a marginal, almost-a-rotation-player guy or a not-close-to-starter guy, you come to Chicago. Thibs is going to get your ass paid He's the Point Guard whisperer. First Nate Rob, now Augustin. Hell, even a scrub like John Lucas III put up some monster games as a Bull.

Kyle Long named to Pro Bowl per Brad Biggs (on Twitter). Well done, kid. I was flat-wrong about this pick. I loved his potential, but didn't think he'd be NFL ready with such little experience at OL. Thought we over-drafted him (which we still may have, but that doesn't really matter now).
-
QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 07:21 PM) Yeah, since most NFL teams don't want to do it, the NFL has the power to force a team to do it once every 10 years or something like that. Good deal. I'd be all about it.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) Kaplan just said the NFL might force the Bears to be the next Hard Knocks team. Interesting. Can they do that? I'd selfishly love it as a fan. Not sure it's always the best thing for the team, though.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 05:54 PM) What I've learned in the last 24 hours is that only uneducated black men are cocky. Sure Sherman had good grades in a good school but obviously he must have cheated or something. I mean come on, there's no such thing as an educated African African athlete. Please tell me that no one with any sort of credibility or intelligence is saying that. If you mean the Twitter idiots and whatnot, then yeah, people are f'n stupid. But I don't think anyone worth a damn actually believes that.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) If the Pats had Gronk and Talib do they win? If the Broncos had Clady, Chris Harris, Von Miller, etc, do they still win? Probably. Injuries happen.

Sorry, I'm cracking up that a Sports Pickle article was used as a real reference. That's too awesome.

Lots of posts today that I've missed out on... But let's back up. Someone earlier said that Peyton wasn't smart outside of football. That's false. He may not be a Rhodes Scholar, but he's a smart dude. Also, you better check your condescending tone about a degree from Tennessee. Them are fightin' words.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 01:27 AM) Shameless was great. I nodded off a few times during True Detective. The show is pretty slow and quiet so far. Definitely still moving a bit slow. I'm still intrigued and am definitely going to keep up with it. But slow for sure. Next week looks like it might pick up a bit.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) Our first year, we were goners by about 8pm. Never even made it out to the bars after. We learned from our mistakes and last year we went from 5am to 2 am. It was epic. Haha, solid. The year I was there, we had some guys falling off by the early evening. Just straight passed out in the bar - so we made them cab it back. We lost (and found) several people throughout the day. Out of our group of 11, only me and 2 other guys lasted until the bars closed. I lost my friends in the crowd at one point and just stopped walking hoping that they would eventually turn around and come back when they realized I was gone. Which is exactly what happened, albeit about 20 min later. Without cell phone service, you quickly realize how difficult it can be to find people in a crowd of a million people in such a confined area.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 10:24 PM) Pretty sure he's referring to smack talk on the field No, I get it. He definitely was. But that's my point... why was he yelling into the camera and then decide to walk off before Erin was done speaking with him? That's the type of reaction someone would have if the entire country was bad-mouthing them, talking s***, etc. In this case, it was (at most) a few guys on the field. Just go talk back to them while you're still on the field. He just looked like a fool. It was unprofessional. Erin looked shell-shocked and she's probably seen about everything you could imagine in her career.
