  1. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/chicago-white...utm_source=t.co Just came across this article on Yahoo and low-and-behold, one of SoxTalk's own wrote it. Nice work, Jake.
  2. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ May 6, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) If we somehow win this series, even if we don't win the championship, this is the narrative for one of the best sports movies ever. We have a matchup of two teams that share one philosophy, defense. But that's about where the similarities end. We have on one hand the scariest and the most talented team in the past 15 years, who is absolutely steamrolling into the playoffs, led by the best player, yet one of the most polarizing players of this generation. On the other hand, we have a team who is the severe underdog, missing its superstar who mysterious gave up on the season, playing third string players after their starters were forced out of action, led by a center who is playing on one leg, who plays his heart out every possession. Together they believe that with tough defense, heart, and hustle, they can somehow slay the giant they are going up against, even if no one else gave them a chance. In a sport that is historically dominated by teams with the most superstars, this is the intangible oriented version of Money Ball. Build a team with character, heart, hustle and plays though defense, they will keep fighting till they are the last one standing. Gentlemen, that is your 2012-2013 Chicago Bulls. Those images of players puking during timeout, bleeding mouths, players lying on the floor, players struggling to stand up after giving all they got for 60 minutes define who this team is. We believe. Except for our best player and superstar... I haven't said a word about Rose not playing, but enough is enough. I'm seriously disappointed in him. How can he not be out there after seeing what his teammates are going through to play? Regardless, what a fun win tonight. This trash, C-squad lineup has no business playing in a playoff game, much less beating the Heat in one. I'm really proud of these guys.
  3. I can definitely get on board with all of our Day 3 picks. Great value in each round. I liked Washington a lot coming into the draft. He played out of position at Georgia because of necessity. He was playing 3-4 DE at 260 lbs and being asked to take up blockers rather than rush the passer, which is his best trait. I think this could be a major steal. In a different system or situation, he could have shown a lot more. But, it's still just a projection b/c there is no game film to support that thought. For a 6th rounder, it's a great guy to take a chance on.
  4. I'm not a big fan of the Bostic pick. It's merely okay, but there were better options out there. I've watched a ton of SEC football over the last few years, including seeing him in person 3x, and he not once stood out to me. That's not a good thing. Honestly, I remember Bostic more from when Tennessee was recruiting him in high school than him playing at Florida. That doesn't say much about him. But hey guys, at least he graded out at the top of the Bears athletic index.... Is Emery trying to be Al Davis by putting such a huge emphasis on measurables? I should say that I'd probably be a bit more okay with this pick if Emery hadn't reached so much in Round 1. Bostic is a slight reach, which would have been perfectly acceptable if Long hadn't been taken way too high.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) WalterFootball and CBS did round 2 mock drafts based on yesterday's picks. both project the Bears drafting Te'o Now, I'd be okay with Te'o in the 2nd round. I wanted no part of him in Round 1. But I still think he's a solid LB. I would rather avoid the media hoopla that will surround him, but if he's there for our pick, he would be a solid choice.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 07:40 AM) You would know better than me, but I was blown away by Patterson at that UT game I went to. His routes to the ball were so strange and effective, you knew he had that sixth sense great players have. He's the most impressive player I've ever watched in person. He has an amazing knack to take a 5 yards gain and turn in into a 50 yard gain (see the .gif in my signature). I'm not terribly happy with him ending up on the Vikings. Obviously I'm a bit biased, but I think he's going to be really good. And he really didn't know what he was doing last year. If he can get coached-up and fine tune parts of his game, he'll be a beast.
  7. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 05:04 AM) All valid points to which I agree. When I posted that I was boozed up and looking to bash two teams I dislike (Min and UT). And frankly the bears also took a Juco guy with even less experience than Patterson Haha, fair enough... I've been there, done that before.
  8. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 09:35 PM) What a horrendous value for vikes. A lot of picks to give up for a guy who was in Juco last year and started out as the #3 or 4 wr on a bad team They cleaned house getting Floyd tho I respect you as a poster on here, but in this case I have to completely disagree with you. Patterson started out at the #3 WR in training camp because the guys ahead of him were both Juniors and projected 1st round picks (Hunter and Rogers). Obviously, Rogers got kicked off the team before the season started and that caused his value to drop a lot. Hunter didn't look quite the same after his ACL tear, but he still had a great chance to go in the 1st. He'll be an early 2nd round pick tomorrow. Kind of hard to hate on the guy because he "started out" at the #3 WR with those other guys on the roster. And as you said, it was his first year at Tennessee so it would be kind of hard for him to immediately be a starting WR before ever having practiced with the team. I just don't see how you pointed that out as a negative. Second, the fact that he played on a bad team shouldn't matter at all. The UT offense was awesome. The defense was historically bad. That's why the team was 5-7. All 11 starters from last year's offense will be in the NFL. And he was the most electric player on that offense. If you watched him play, you'd realize he's incredibly electric with the ball in his hands. He does amazing things. He's a bigger version of Percy Harvin. But you're right: he certainly is raw. As you pointed out, he only played 1 year of D1 football. But give him the ball in space and watch him work. He'll be fine.
  9. So I've been pre-occupied texting people about this Bears pick and I haven't been able to hop on here yet, but here are my thoughts: I absolutely hate this pick. It's horrible value. This is the 2nd year in a row where Emery took a 2nd round player in the 1st round. Eventually, he has to be questioned. How great did McClellin work out for us? 7 f***ing tackles. It's not that I don't like Long as a player, but he's not the 20th best player in the draft. For the Bears in this draft, the goal in the 1st round had to be getting an immediate contributor. Maybe Long will start. But he's damn raw. I simply think there were much, much better options still available. Or trade down with the Falcons like STL did, and take Ogletree like STL just did. It's stupid. f***ing moron. And no, I'm not a meathead Bears fan. I'm just telling the truth. Again, I'm not hating on the player. I'm hating on Emery for getting poor value out of the 20th pick.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) I still can't believe how much the change to the 3 day format ruined the draft for me. Just no where near the excitement for the draft that I used to have. Agreed. I used to love spending all day Saturday and Sunday watching the draft. Grill out, drink some beer, and watch the draft. That's my ideal scenario.
  11. Happy Birthday Jason!
  12. That provided some good entertainment. Thanks for sharing. I got a nice laugh out of those responses.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 11:10 PM) FWIW, PFF rated both of our new LB's in 2012 Urlacher territory last year. This isn't to say that better coaching, supporting casts, etc. can't change these things. I'm okay with that, though. You can play winning football with Lance Briggs and 2 Urlacher's at LB. And they're doing it on cheap, 1 year deals. Plus, I really think we'll add a LB early in the draft. I'd love to get Alec Olgetree.
  14. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 25, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) Glad the Bears are bringing back Jonathan Scott. Solid depth. Now on to bringing back Lance Louis... Or not. Louis signed with the Dolphins today... I'm a little disappointed. I know he had a bad knee injury and we don't know how much $ he wanted, but he was our best OL last year.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 05:59 PM) Bears retain Kelvin Hayden on a 1 year deal. Another good move. That's 7 signings in 7 days. What will tomorrow bring?
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 25, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) I'm surprised Adams hasn't been picked up by some media outlet. He's hilarious and obviously pretty smart. I think he'd be great on television.
  17. Glad the Bears are bringing back Jonathan Scott. Solid depth. Now on to bringing back Lance Louis...
  18. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Mar 13, 2013 -> 06:58 PM) So, Seattle now signed Cliff Avril. This is nice, but in 2-4 years, how will they be able to keep Sherman, Thomas, Chancellor, Irvin, Tate, Baldwin, Wilson, Browner, Unger, and Okung? You worry about that when the time comes. For now, they'll just enjoy all of the cheap, young talent they have.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 13, 2013 -> 09:59 AM) I'm not a scout, I know nothing, but if we ended up with Barrett Jones, I would be happy. Versatile and possible C replacement, or potential guard. I love Barrett Jones. He's not a guy that wows you in any particular facet and he's pretty average athletically, but he's tough, smart, and versatile. And guys like that can spend a long time being solid o-lineman in the NFL. I'm not sure he's worth a 2nd round pick, though. And I doubt he falls as far as Round 4.
  20. Bennett's deal is 4 years, $20M. Not sure on guaranteed money yet. That's a very reasonable deal for a 25 year old TE entering his prime and coming off the season he had.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 12, 2013 -> 05:45 PM) I expect them to draft a guard in the 1st two rounds. My guess is the other pick will be a LB, but they could also use some youth at the cornerback position. I know they've also kicked the tires on some receivers and could look at Tavon Austin at 20. If they sign a veteran, 2nd tier OG like rumored, I really have no idea what direction they'll go. I would really like some youth and depth at CB. LB depending on Roach/Urlacher could end up being a big need. Can always use OL. Like you said, a speed WR like Austin to pair with Marshall/Jeffery. That's the beauty of taking care of the major needs in FA. We have now have lots of options.
  22. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Mar 12, 2013 -> 06:19 PM) That would be f***ing great. With the Titans landing Levitre that's one of the first round suitors for a guard off the board, so maybe. Guards can always slide in the draft Exactly... Like last year when DeCastro slid to #24 after many thought he'd go in the teens.
  23. I'm very interested to see what kind of $$ we're dishing out in these deals, but... I love the fact that we locked up LT and TE today. Leaves plenty of options for them at #20 and allows Emery to definitely go BPA, which is always the smart move.
