  1. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) Thinking of the draft, this is how I like the 49ers to draft 1st rd Sharrif Floyd DT FLA 2nd rd Logan Ryan CB Rutgers 3rd rd Chase Thomas LB Stanford 3rd rd Brandon Jenkins DE FLA St 4th rd Cobi Hamilton WR Arkansas 5th rd Reid Fragel OT Ohio St 5th rd Dustin Hopkins K FLA St 6th rd Joe Fauria TE UCLA 6th rd Daniel McCullers NT Tennessee 7th rd Tyrann Mathieu FS LSU 7th rd Marcus Lattimore RB S Carolina Since Joyner is staying I will make a switch McCullers is staying in school for his senior year.
  2. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:57 AM) Another guy in a situation where the head coach is the mastermind behind the offense, I don't want any part of the Saints/Packers OC. While I would normally agree, I think Carmichael's situation is different. With Payton out this year, Carmichael called the plays and led the NFL's 2nd ranked offense (3rd in points). So, we know he can actually lead a successful offense.
  3. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 05:03 PM) Between the Chik Fil A bowl last night, and the Outback bowl today, damn good football. I was really going to post early on, that Michigan really needs a pure QB. But I don't know, Gardner made some great throws, some not great. Give him the offseason, and who knows. Hoke and the O line coach did a great job controlling the S.C. D line for the most part, but just like in the Tennessee game, all it takes is one Clowney play to change the game. Great game That was my first thought when I saw Clowney make that play.
  4. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 08:39 PM) Bears asked permission to interview packers OC and former qb coach Tom Clements. Obviously has done some nice things, but he's 59 - seems a bit old to start your first gig as a HC Clements would have been great to try as our OC a couple years ago, but the Packers declined to let him interview with us. As a HC option, not sure I'd like that.
  5. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 02:34 PM) I don't know, it seems like Peyton Manning is the OC turning around Denver. McCoy is along for the ride. I've heard people say that, but I like the fact that he's adapted his offenses to fit the personnel. Quite frankly, it's amazing what he was able to do with Tebow (who's awful) as his QB and field an offense that was at least capable of making it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. Then, they get a pure pocket passer like Peyton and they go much more balanced (even a little pass-heavy). While Peyton is clearly a reason for Denver's offensive turnaround this year, it's not like he's the one calling the plays. That's on McCoy.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) Pioli is the shocker to me. This guy has been pretty bad for a while. It must be nice to write off you constant mistakes on others. I don't necessarily agree. He built a pretty talented roster. The QB spot is what's holding that team back. Granted, he's the guy who spent big money on Cassell, but if he can get that fixed, then I think the Chiefs could be pretty good. They had 5 guys make the Pro Bowl this year. The talent is there. The coaching and the QB was not.
  7. I've been away from the computer all day so far, so just getting around to this Lovie stuff... But if we're going the OC route, my #1 target would be McCoy from Denver. After that, Arians and maybe Darrell Bevell would be good to look at. And then going further down the OC list, Jay Gruden could be an option. But those are really the only OC's who have had successful offenses and don't work for an offensive-minded head coach (Fox, Pagano, Carroll, Lewis). I'd love to take a shot at Chip Kelly, but I don't think the McCaskey's would do it. Oh, and Gruden would be good. But again, I don't think he's the type of guy the Bears would hire.
  8. They're gonna score now b/c of that stupid f***ing late hit. We should have the ball right now. I'm so pissed.
  9. Settling on all of these field goals is making me sick. What a joke.
  10. QUOTE (Boogua @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 11:53 AM) I think DPOY should be really interesting with Miller and Watt. I think Watt should definitely win it (20.5 sacks from a 3-4 DE? Wtf?), but we'll see. Keep in mind that Houston runs a bit of a different 3-4. Watt only has a one gap assignment, not 2 like most 3-4 DE's. He's used to rush the passer, not eat up blockers like a normal 3-4 DE. The MIKE for Houston has responsibility for 2 gaps, allowing the DE (Watt) to focus on one gap and get penetration however he can. This is not to discredit Watt or anything. He's a stud and would be deserving of the DPOY. Just trying to point out that it's not that ridiculous b/c of the type of 3-4 they run.
  11. 7 weeks ago I was at 3-6 and in 9th place. Then I rattled off 7 straight wins, made the last seed in the playoffs (by 0.8 points), and won my championship yesterday. Frankly, my team was too good to have ever been 3-6, but regardless, fantasy is all about luck and a little bit of skill.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 01:39 PM) I disagree here. RG3 and Wilson had better teams around them when they came in. Luck is literally all that team has, for crying out loud they gave up 500 yards to the Chiefs yesterday. Their Secondary is good enough to make Jay Cutler look like Tom Brayd. Luck's only help is Reggie Wayne, and he's literally carried that team. Oh, and for MVP, I'll take Peterson. Again, absolutely nothing around him and carrying the entire load for the team. I'm with you, Balta, for those exact reasons. Luck is definitely my choice for ROY. I have: 1) Luck 2) RGIII 3) Wilson
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) Totally different scheme and tempo to his offense than Wisconsin has been using. Doesnt jive with Alvarez's philosophy IMO which is odd. Does it truly matter what Alvarez's philosophy is, though? The AD can't tell his Head Coach what scheme to run. And if he did, it would be such a horrible idea to hire a guy and then make him change what he does. I just can't fathom that this would actually happen. To me, this looks like Alvarez is deciding to change things up (even if that isn't "his style" of football). That said, it may be a slow transition to the spread that Andersen runs. Because as we know, any good coach will adapt his scheme to fit the players. So I imagine you'll see more pro-style elements until he gets his own guys in.
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 10:04 PM) Reports are that Wisconsin is going to hire Gary Andersen from Utah State as the next Head Coach. I think it's a good hire. Andersen completely turned around a really bad program in Utah St. He obviously knows how to win.
  15. QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 02:44 PM) I actually kinda like this inner-outer idea. I do too in the sense of how fair the divisions are split. But I think the travel aspect is what won't make it happen. Those outer teams are so damn far from each other.
  16. Looks like I've missed a lot of discussion today, but I'll say this: If Cutler had thrown the tantrum that Brady did in the 4th Q last night (when he slammed the ball down after SF was granted a timeout), the media would have been all over him. They would have bashed the heck out of him. But when Brady does it, it's because he's showing some "moxie" or whatever. Also, I really wish we hadn't passed on David DeCastro last year. I know he's injured this year, but I would have loved to see what he could do to improve our o-line.
  17. The NFL (and college football too, for that matter) needs to start holding officials responsible for their actions. It's disgraceful to have the greatest sport in the world have the worst refs. I don't know how it realistically gets done, but a major overhaul needs to happen in officiating. I'm a NCAA lacrosse referee, so I tend to side with my referee brethren because being a ref is pretty damn hard. But what happened today is ludicrous. Jobs need to be lost. I seriously mean that. If I'm under-performing as a ref and am told to take a hike, I'd be okay with that. Every other damn job in the world is performance-based. Why isn't officiating? For instance, I get reviewed for every game I officiate but nothing ever comes of it. And I know I shouldn't say this, but they literally don't care. They tell the coaches to fill out an evaluation sheet for each ref after every game. If the coaches don't do it within 24 hours, they get fined $100. And yet, I've never seen a review of a game I've ref'd. They don't even use them unless someone grades out truly horrible. It simply to appease the coaches and make them feel like action is being taken. I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL operates similarly.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:07 PM) At least Andy has a bit of a clue as to how an offense should be run, but yeah, none of these retreads does anything for me. I am ready to bring in someone innovative with fresh ideas. I'd like us to interview Chip Kelly...s***, I'd even consider talking to Josh McDaniels... I'd actually be okay with this. Not sure how he'd translate to the NFL and he'd have to tweak his scheme to fit the NFL better, but the guy knows his offense. And I'd maybe consider McDaniels too if he had absolutely zero control of personnel decisions. I still can't believe how much he ruined Denver's team. Oh and yes, Cutler would have to be gone in this scenario.
  19. Would have been nice to get that type of performance out of Brees and James Jones last week. If I hadn't gotten knocked out of the playoffs, I'd be crushing any of the guys who are still in it. But that's fantasy football for ya...
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 04:08 PM) I've never seen Troy Aikman side with the Bears on anything, and he was clearly disgusted with the referees. I was just saying that to my buddies I'm watching the game with. When Aikman is that overly in favor of the Bears getting screwed, you know it's horrible officiating b/c Aikman seems to always hate on the Bears.
  21. WHAT!!!??? He took no extra steps before hitting Rodgers. That's such a bulls*** call.
  22. 6 points off of 2 turnovers... Yeah, that's not how you win games. I wish I didn't care about football so much. It's so incredibly difficult to watch this team play.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) Our offensive coordinators are f***ing ridiculous. Let's just let Jay call the plays. I don't even know what else to say. I've never seen another team have this much trouble with wasting timeouts b/c they can't get the playcall in.
  24. Oh my god, Jay! Where are you throwing the ball??? We had Rodriguez open in the flat. C'mon...
